Russian Military Prepares To Take Out EU ‘Missile Defense Systems’

Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president embraced the fiery rhetoric of the Cold War threatening to target and if necessary destroy America’s planned European missile defence shield once it is built.

– Dmitry Medvedev threatens US over planned missile defence shield (Telegraph, Nov. 23, 2011):

In what may be the most serious blow to US-Russia relations since President Barack Obama came to power, Mr Medvedev raised the prospect of Russia launching missile attacks on European Union member states such as Poland, Romania and Spain as well as Nato member Turkey.

“I have given the armed forces the task of drawing up plans to destroy the information and command and control systems of the (US/Nato) anti-missile shield,” he said.

“Our Nato partners are not for now showing any readiness to take our concerns about the architecture of the European missile shield into account, something which convinces us that their plans are aimed at Russia.” Upping the ante further, he said Russia’s anxiety was so great that it would reserve the right to tear up existing nuclear arms control treaties and halt talks about new treaties.

The White House immediately rebuffed Mr Medvedev, making it clear Washington would not be altering its plans in any way.

“We will not in any way limit or change our deployment plans in Europe,” said Tommy Vietor, a National Security Council spokesman. “In multiple channels, we have explained to Russian officials that the missile defence systems planned for deployment in Europe do not and cannot threaten Russia’s strategic deterrent.”

The shield that Russia objects to so strongly is designed to shoot down missiles from rogue states such as Iran but is years away from being operational. Turkey, Poland, Romania and Spain have all agreed to join what is a diluted version of a controversial plan first proposed by former President George W. Bush.

Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology published the soil contamination data of 60 km area from Fukushima plants.

The data was taken from 6/1/2011 ~ 11/22/2011.

Though it’s only about I-131, Cs-134, Cs-137 mainly,the result shows the worst contaminated area in Fukushima is 33 times worse than Chernobyl. It proves Fukushima is something nobody has ever gone through.

In Chernobyl, area contaminated worse than 1,480,000 bq/m2 was defined as the worst red zone, “immediate mandatory evacuating area.”

In Fukushima, Namie-machi, 22km north west to Fukushima plants is contaminated, which they measured 760,000 bq/kg (Cs-134 + Cs-137). It equals to 49,400,000 bq/m2.

Fukushima is “the next level” of Chernobyl apparently.

In short, he says Tepco started reducing the number of workers because they can not do anything for the reactors anymore. Even though they stock lots of workers, there is no clue to do something most important.

He explains, the next thing to do is to check the state of container vessels pressure vessels, define the actual point of the leakage of contaminated water, and action to stop the leakage, but there is zero plan / idea how to manage it.

The interiors of the buildings are extremely radioactive and nobody can officially go into reactor 3 (though the helmet of the worker was recorded in the video taken by the robot). They can never go into the basement floor of the reactors either. The only thing they can do is to analyze the gas from inside of the container vessels.

Thus nothing can be done by human anymore. They can only clean debris, take away broken operation floor, maintain the water purifying system, setting new tanks etc..

Senior European sources said that Arab jet fighters, and possibly Turkish warplanes, backed by American logistic support will implement a no fly zone in Syria’s skies, after the Arab League will issue a decision, under its Charter, calling for the protection of Syrian civilians.

The sources told Kuwait’s al Rai daily that the no fly ban will include a ban on the movement of Syrian military vehicles, including tanks, personnel carriers and artillery, adding that this move would aim at curbing the movement of Assad forces, and cripple their ability to bomb cities. The European sources said the no fly ban might lead to the paralysis of the Syrian regime forces “in less than 24 hours.”

Meanwhile, it is reported that the leadership of the Turkish General Staff informed all the concerned parties with the Syrian issue its rejection of the idea that the Turkish army would launch any invasion to the Syrian territory including the area adjacent to the Turkish border to establish a “buffer zone” to protect civilians fleeing the violence.

Police organizations across the country co-operated to spy on community organizations and activists in what the RCMP called one of the largest domestic intelligence operations in Canadian history, documents reveal.

Information about the extensive police surveillance in advance of last year’s G8 and G20 meetings in southern Ontario comes from evidence presented in the case of 17 people accused of orchestrating street turmoil during the summits.

The court case ended Tuesday before it went to trial. Six of the defendants pleaded guilty to counselling mischief and two of those to an additional count of counselling to obstruct police, while 11 people had their criminal charges dropped.

Testimony previously under a publication ban describes how two undercover police officers — one male, one female — spent 18 months infiltrating southern Ontario community groups ahead of the June 26-27, 2010, gathering of world leaders.

They were part of a much larger so-called joint intelligence group (JIG) operation that the RCMP, in its internal post-summit review, called “likely the largest JIG ever assembled in Canada.”

LONDON – A “disastrous” sale of German benchmark bonds sparked fears on Wednesday the debt crisis was beginning to threaten even Berlin, with the Bundesbank forced to dig deep into its pockets to ensure the auction did not fail.

In one of the least successful debt sales by Europe’s powerhouse economy since the launch of the single currency, the low returns offered — just 2 percent annually over 10 years — deterred investors made uneasy by the escalating cost of the crisis to Germany.

That meant the central bank had to pick up 39 percent of the 6 billion euros of debt Germany had hoped to sell after commercial banks bought just 3.644 billion euros of the issue.

“It is a complete and utter disaster,” said Marc Ostwald, strategist at Monument Securities in London.

“This does not bode well, it is the worst of uncovered auctions that we’ve had this year and little wonder that the Bund sold off on the back of it.”

A prominent economist says that China’s economic importance is growing strong and steady that the ailing US and EU economies will exchange their gold reserves for Beijing’s financial bailouts.

G-20 leaders are facing growing pressure at home over the economic woes of their countries, where protests are being held in some nations on a daily basis.

There are fears that more delays in resolving the eurozone debt crisis could push not only Europe but much of the rest of the developed world back into recession.

Analysts say that the recent hike in the price of gold will add fuel to the flames caused by concerns over the United States’ economic outlook, rising inflation, worries over the euro zone debt crisis, and the lowest-ever interest rates in the US.

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund expects China’s economy to expand by 9 percent in 2012, while an increase in domestic product should account for a full quarter of total global growth.

Press TV has conducted an exclusive interview with Dan Collins from thechinamoneyreport.com to further discuss the issue.

The following is a transcript of the interview.

Press TV: The big news coming from China in the past few weeks is that investment demand for gold and silver is up. Give us the numbers.

Collins: Yeah, real big news, Max. Shanghai Gold Exchange reported last week, starting with silver, silver demand’s up 750 percent for silver forward contracts. The major buyers here are the large commercial banks of China.

First of all, I’ll talk a little bit about silver. They’re following the gold pattern here in China which is average Chinese citizens here now can buy silver in their bank account. So, you don’t need to keep cash in your bank, you can go online and move your cash into silver or you can move it into gold. And that’s really what’s driving the increase in gold and silver prices here.

They started the gold trade in the major commercial banks about three years ago. Silver started last year in August, 2010. But what was really shocking is the numbers that have come out. I mentioned the year over year increases.

But if we look at just one Chinese bank, the ICBC, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, first half of this year they sold over 300 tons of silver. 300 tons is roughly about 10 million ounces. So, this year they’ll do roughly 20 million ounces of silver which is roughly 2 percent of all the silver mined in one year.

So, we look at the Chinese banking system just starting these new products in China, this year they could take nine or ten percent of all the silver mined in the world. And these products are just getting started. Two, three, four years from now, the Chinese banks could be selling 20, 30, 40 percent of all the silver mined globally. And that’s really why we’re seeing huge increases in silver.

Press TV: I got to tell you, Dan, these are blockbuster numbers. And the banks are effectively allowing Chinese people to have bank accounts that are based in precious metals.

I know Eric Sprott in Canada is trying to introduce a new banking facility that would give people in Canada a similar option to have their reserves or savings held in bullion. But, apparently, the Chinese are beating Eric Sprott to the punch. That’s what it sounds like.

Effectively, it’s becoming a bi-metal reserve currency in China, is that right?

Collins: Absolutely. It’s a really innovative product and you wonder why Western banks — that are tough to make money – haven’t thought of this earlier?

Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. are limiting Iran’s access to much of the world’s financial system in an attempt to isolate the country’s regime.

The sanctions Canada announced Monday also add the leadership from the Revolutionary Guard to the list of people designated for sanctions and expands the list of prohibited goods.

A real estate tycoon in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, has received a death sentence for illegally raising 5.5 billion yuan ($800 million) from the public, reported the Procuratorial Daily on Monday.

Ji Wenhua, the president and legal representative of Lishui Yintai Real Estate Investment Company, was found guilty of fraudulent fund raising and embezzlement.

Five other shareholders and senior managers from the Lishui Yintai group received death sentences with reprieves and imprisonment.

Last year, federal officials warned that Americans were on the verge of “a post-antibiotic era.” And that’s exactly what the Pentagon’s far-out research agency is after.

As long as they’ve got a replacement at the ready, of course. In the military’s latest round of small business solicitations, Darpa is making a long-shot request for an all-out replacement to antibiotics, the decades-old standard for killing or injuring bacteria to demolish a disease. In its place: the emerging field of nanomedicine would be used to fight bacterial threats. The agency’s “Rapidly Adaptable Nanotherapeutics” is after a versatile “platform capable of rapidly synthesizing therapeutic nanoparticles” to target unknown, evolving and even genetically engineered bioweapons.

It’s the latest of several Darpa programs to improve we deal with bacterial infections, viruses and bio-threats. The agency is already funding tobacco-based vaccine production, prescient viral infection detectors and insta-vaccines to inoculate against unknown pathogens.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called child labor laws “stupid” Friday in an appearance at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

“It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in, first of all, child laws, which are truly stupid,” said the former House speaker, according to CNN. “Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.”

“You’re going to see from me extraordinarily radical proposals to fundamentally change the culture of poverty in America,” he added.

Libya’s interim authorities have captured the last totem of the Gaddafi regime, seizing former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi in the southern desert near to where Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was apprehended two days earlier.

Militia units surrounded a house where Senussi was holed up, near the town of Birak. The arrest means that all leading figures from the Gaddafi regime have now either been killed, captured or driven into exile. Senussi was the henchman of the Gaddafi regime, “the executioner”, according to Luis Moreno Ocampo, prosecutor at the international criminal court.

“Our greatest wish is that they commit such a mistake,” the chief of the Guards’ aerospatial division, Amir-Ali Hadjizadeh, was quoted as saying.

“For some time there has been a hidden energy we hope to expend to consign the enemies of Islam forever to the dustbin of history,” he said.

Amid the gloom, the smoke and the deafening chants of thousands around them, the middle-aged couple looked like they had been photoshopped on to the scene. He was wearing a smart jacket, she a dress and a headscarf. They both walked silently forwards across the debris, hand in hand and staring straight ahead. Each was carrying a rock.

The scene was Talaat Harb street, usually one of downtown Cairo’s busiest thoroughfares and a shopping mecca for cut-price shoes and clothing, just after darkness fell across the capital on Sunday evening. The store shutters were down and the dying and the injured were propped up against them. Ahead, beyond a wall of teargas, stood the troops of Egypt’s once-venerated army, and the new frontline of this country’s reawakened revolution.
