Greece: Person Trampled As Fight Breaks Out At Free Food Handout

Person Trampled As Fight Breaks Out At Greek Free Food Handout (ZeroHedge, Feb 6, 2013):

In yet another day marked by simply unbearable propaganda, about an hour ago an EU official pulled a Lanny Breuer and was quoted as saying that “things are going well” in Greece. Oh are they? Then perhaps the same official can explain why a clip of a scuffle breaking out at a free food handout in Greece, where one man was “trampled and injured“, and where a “Reuters photographer was hit on the head with cauliflower heads” has been the most watched item on Greek TV in the past day?

From Reuters:

Hundreds of Greeks scuffled for free vegetables handed out by farmers on Wednesday, leaving one man trampled and injured and prompting an outcry over the growing desperation created by economic crisis.

Hilarious: German Education Minister Annette Schavan Stripped Of PhD For Plagiarism

Wednesday Humor: German Education Minister Stripped Of PhD For Plagiarism (ZeroHedge, Feb 6, 2013):

Some thought the irony of a Treasury Secretary who cheated on his taxes was extreme but Germany has gone one better as the nation’s Education Minister has just been stripped of her PhD due to plagiarism. As Spiegel Online reports, the University of Düsseldorf has revoked German Education Minister Annette Schavan’s degree because “she systematically and deliberately presented intellectual efforts throughout her entire dissertation that were not her own.” As such, she was guilty of “intentional deception through plagiarism.” Allegations that parts of her dissertation were not consistent with academic standards were first raised last spring and were hardened in October when a blogger released detailed findings of citation shortcomings he had found in the education minister’s dissertation. Of course, she has taken the political route to this problem – denial –  admitting merely to “oversights,” and adding that “There was no cheating involved.” The university voted 12 to 2 to revoke her degree and invalidate her academic title. Schavan is yet to resign from Merkel’s Cabinet. What next? A skeet-shooting gun tzar, a job tzar responsible for thousands of jobs losses while in the private sector, or a Nobel Peace Prize winner building a drone army.

Bank Of Italy Caught Lying About Imploding Monte Paschi, Counters With Even More Ridiculous Lies

Bank Of Italy Caught Lying About Imploding Monte Paschi, Counters With Even More Ridiculous Lies (ZeroHedge, Feb 4, 2013):

One half of the reason why the “market” has finally been reacquainted with gravity is its realization that the previously reported Spanish kickback scandal, which incidentally has been known for over two weeks to most if not the algos that push stocks higher, is refusing to go away. As El Pais summarized below, the graft revealed in this ongoing political fiasco threatens to take down everyone in the Spanish ruling PP, from PM Rajoy, who received more than €300,000 over the years, and on to the lowest rungs of political corruption.

Greek Finance Minister Sent Bullet In The Mail

Greek finance minister sent bullet in the mail (Reuters, Feb 4, 2013):

ATHENS – Greece’s finance minister was sent a bullet and a death threat from a group protesting home foreclosures, police officials said on Monday, in the latest incident to raise fears of growing political violence.

The package was sent by a little-known group called “Cretan Revolution”, which warned the minister against any efforts to seize homes and evict homeowners, police sources said. The group sent similar letters to tax offices in Crete last week.

Former Iranian Central Bank Head Tahmasb Mazaheri Caught Smuggling $70 Million Bank Of Venezuela Check Into Germany

Former Iranian Central Bank Head Caught Smuggling $70 Million Bank Of Venezuela Check Into Germany (ZeroHedge, Feb 3, 2013):

A week ago we described the sad tale of one Mahmoud Bahmani, who until recently supervised the unilateral destruction of the Iranian Rial, which on Friday just hit an all time low against the dollar down 21% in two weeks, as head of the Iranian central bank. While his currency-crushing performance would have been enough to get Mahmoud the “congressional medal of inflating away the debt” (not to mention a lifetime corner office at a TBTF bank of his choosing) at any self-respecting “developed world” banana republic, all of which have just one goal – to crush their currencies as Iran just did, in Iran it had precisely the opposite effect and let to his prompt termination. Yet this story is merely a trifle compared to the recent developments surrounding his predecessor, Tahmasb Mazaheri’s, who led the Iranian central bank for just one year until September 2008, at which point Ahmadinejad fired him to make way for the recently laid off Bahmani. It is this same Mazaheri, who had been off the world’s radar for over 4 years, until he trimumphantly resurfaced yesterday, when German Bild reported that he was caught last month trying to enter Germany with a check for 300 million Venezuelan Bolivars (some $70 million USD) issued by the Venezuelan Central Bank.

From AP:

The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reports that a man caught last month trying to enter Germany with a check worth about $70 million was Iran’s former central bank chief.

The weekly reports that customs officials at Duesseldorf airport found the check in Tahmasb Mazaheri’s luggage Jan. 21 upon his arrival from Turkey.

German customs had issued a statement Friday saying a check for 300 million Venezuelan Bolivars issued by the Bank of Venezuela was found on an unnamed 59-year-old man.

How The Fed’s Latest QE Is Just Another European Bailout

How The Fed’s Latest QE Is Just Another European Bailout (ZeroHedge, Feb 2, 2013):

Back in June 2011 Zero Hedge broke a very troubling story: virtually all the reserves that had been created as a result of the Fed’s QE2, some $600 billion (which two years ago seemed like a lot of money) which was supposed to force banks to create loans and stimulate the US (not European) economy, ended up becoming cash at what the Fed classifies as “foreign-related institutions in the US” (or “foreign banks” as used in this article) on its weekly update of commercial banks operating in the US, or said simply, European banks.

Who Runs The World? Solid Proof That A Core Group Of Wealthy Elitists Is Pulling The Strings

Who Runs The World? Solid Proof That A Core Group Of Wealthy Elitists Is Pulling The Strings (Economic Collapse, Jan 29, 2013):

Does a shadowy group of obscenely wealthy elitists control the world?  Do men and women with enormous amounts of money really run the world from behind the scenes?  The answer might surprise you.  Most of us tend to think of money as a convenient way to conduct transactions, but the truth is that it also represents power and control.  And today we live in a neo-fuedalist system in which the super rich pull all the strings.  When I am talking about the ultra-wealthy, I am not just talking about people that have a few million dollars.  As you will see later in this article, the ultra-wealthy have enough money sitting in offshore banks to buy all of the goods and services produced in the United States during the course of an entire year and still be able to pay off the entire U.S. national debt.  That is an amount of money so large that it is almost incomprehensible.  Under this ne0-feudalist system, all the rest of us are debt slaves, including our own governments.  Just look around – everyone is drowning in debt, and all of that debt is making the ultra-wealthy even wealthier.  But the ultra-wealthy don’t just sit on all of that wealth.  They use some of it to dominate the affairs of the nations.  The ultra-wealthy own virtually every major bank and every major corporation on the planet.  They use a vast network of secret societies, think tanks and charitable organizations to advance their agendas and to keep their members in line.  They control how we view the world through their ownership of the media and their dominance over our education system.  They fund the campaigns of most of our politicians and they exert a tremendous amount of influence over international organizations such as the United Nations, the IMF, the World Bank and the WTO.  When you step back and take a look at the big picture, there is little doubt about who runs the world.  It is just that most people don’t want to admit the truth. The ultra-wealthy don’t run down and put their money in the local bank like you and I do.  Instead, they tend to stash their assets in places where they won’t be taxed such as the Cayman Islands.  According to a report that was released last summer, the global elite have up to 32 TRILLION dollars stashed in offshore banks around the globe.

U.S. GDP for 2011 was about 15 trillion dollars, and the U.S. national debt is sitting at about 16 trillion dollars, so you could add them both together and you still wouldn’t hit 32 trillion dollars.

Dutch SNS Bank Fails On Real Estate Losses: First ‘Too Big To Fail’ Nationalization In Five Years

Dutch SNS Bank Fails On Real Estate Losses: First “Too Big To Fail” Nationalization In Five Years (ZeroHedge, Feb 1, 2013):

Earlier today we got one hint that not all is well in the European banking system, as far less than the expected €200 billion was tendered back to the ECB in the second LTRO repayment operation, when just 27 banks paid back some €3.5 billion. Another, perhaps far bigger one, comes courtesy of AAA-rated Netherlands, which just experienced its first bank failure since 2008 following the nationalization of SNS Reall NV, as the previously announced bad loan writedown finally claimed the bank. As a reminder, half a month ago we got news that “SNS Reaal NV (SR), a Dutch bank and insurer struggling to wind down a money-losing real estate lending unit, fell the most in more than two months after a report said it may have to post a 1.8 billion-euro ($2.4 billion) writedown on property-finance loans.” Today we got the inevitable conclusion: nationalization, one which will cost taxpayers about $5 billion to avoid contagion to what many see as Europe’s “strongest” banking system.

From Bloomberg:

The move, aimed “at stabilizing the SNS Reaal group,” will cost taxpayers 3.7 billion euros ($5 billion), the Dutch Finance Ministry said in a statement today. SNS’s property- finance unit will be separated from the company.

LEAKED: Mario Draghi And His Triumvirate Shut Up German Finance Minister To Keep Cyprus From Blowing Up The Eurozone

LEAKED: Mario Draghi And His Triumvirate Shut Up German Finance Minister To Keep Cyprus From Blowing Up The Eurozone (ZeroHedge, Jan 28, 2013):

The state-sponsored chorus about the end of the debt crisis in the Eurozone has been deafening. It even has feel-good metrics: the Euro Breakup Index for January fell to 17.2%—the percentage of investors who thought that at least one country would leave the Eurozone within twelve months. In July, it stood at 73%. For Cyprus, the fifth Eurozone country to ask for a bailout, the index fell to 7.5%. “A euro breakup is almost no issue anymore among investors,” the statement said.

Just then, in a fight over whether or not to bail out Cyprus, top Eurocrats exposed what a taxpayer-funded con game they thought these bailouts really were—and how fragile the Eurozone was.

REVIEWS

“The Globalization of NATO by Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya is simply magnificent, erudite and devoid of the ethnocentrism to which one has become so accustomed from Western authors. The book deals with what doubtless are the most important and relevant issues of the day for all those committed to saving life and protecting Mother Earth from rampant human irresponsibility and crime. There is no other book that, at this particular time, I would most heartily endorse. I think Africans, Near Eastern peoples, Iranians, Russians, Chinese, Asians and Europeans generally and all the progressive Latin American countries of today will find a much needed reinforcement and support for their peaceful ideals in this excellent must-read book.”
MIGUEL D’ESCOTO BROCKMANN, Foreign Minister of Nicaragua (1979-1990) and President of the 63rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (2008-2009): Managua, Nicaragua.

“We are far away from the principles and objectives for which the United Nations was created and the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal stipulating that some state actions can be considered crimes against peace. Nazemroaya’s book, in addition to reminding us that the role of the United Nations has been confiscated by NATO, elaborates the danger that the North Atlantic Treaty represents to world peace.”

AND NOW … French Finance Minister: ‘France Is A Truly Solvent Country, France Is A Truly Credible Country’

Before:

France’s Labour Minister Says France Is ‘Totally Bankrupt’

These aren’t the droids you’re looking for

Frankrupt Damage Control “France Is A Truly Solvent Country, France Is A Truly Credible Country” (ZeroHedge, Jan 30, 2013):

In a move farcically reminiscent of Inspector Clouseau, the French Finance Minister made an impromptu appearance on the BBC to confirm what we all should have known all along: that “France is a truly solvent country, France is a truly credible country.” As the Washington Post notes, the oh-so-honest faux-pas that enfant terrible Monsieur Michel Sapin made yesterday – explaining how his nation is “totally bankrupt” – had French politicos scrambling today to recover their je ne sais pas. It would appear the crisis management approach taken is the repetitive Jedi mind-trick and of course we should believe Moscovici – even as France faces near-record unemployment, ratings downgrades, fiscal atrophication thanks to a plunge in competitiveness, and backlash among the elites at its increasingly socialist policies. “This is not the France you are looking for,” and sure enough, now we believe them.

Misery Index: Spain Is World’s Most ‘Miserable’ Nation, Worse Than Greece, Venezuela And South Africa

Spain Is World’s Most “Miserable” Nation, Worse Than Greece, Venezuela And South Africa (ZeroHedge, Jan 29, 2013):

A quick ranking of the world’s most “miserable” countries, based on the conventional measure of the Misery Index which is simply the Unemployment Rate plus Inflation, shows just why most people in Spain are, well, less than happy (and Spain is damn lucky there is no subset of the Misery index for just those aged 25 and under as we would certainly need a bigger chart). As the chart below shows, the Spanish “misery” is now the greatest in the world, at some 30%, and is worse than South Africa, Greece, Venezuela, Argentina and Egypt.

But fear not Spain: Croatia which is set to join the EU in July is forecast to have a debt/GDP ratio of 63.6% by 2017 from 29.3% in 2008 as growth stagnates. The country has one of the lowest labor participation rates in Europe at about 50 percent, the ILO says. In other words, at just 26%, it a virtual guarantee that Spain pole position is about to be eclipsed as Europe does the one thing it is truly good at: spread misery for the “common good.”

Silvio Berlusconi Defends Benito Mussolini On Holocaust Remembrance Day

Berlusconi defends Mussolini on Holocaust Remembrance Day, sparks outrage (RT, Jan 28, 2013):

Former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi defended Italian fascist leader, Benito Mussolini as he spoke at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony. Other than passing ‘racial laws’ the Italian dictator “did good” in many ways, he said, provoking outrage.

Berlusconi, currently the leader of the center-right People of Freedom party, didn’t think twice as he defended one of the key figures of fascism on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

He went as far as to advocate Mussolini’s alliance with Hitler, implying the dictator had little choice.

“Certainly the government then, fearing that German power would turn into a general victory, preferred to be allied with Hitler’s Germany rather than oppose it,” Berlusconi said, adding that it’s difficult to judge such actions without putting yourself “in the shoes of who was making decisions back then.”

It is through this alliance that the anti-Jewish laws had to be imposed, Berlusconi added, placing the blame on Germany’s Nazi regime. “Thus, the racial laws are the worst fault of Mussolini, who, in so many other aspects, did good,” Berlusconi said.

France’s Labour Minister Says France Is ‘Totally Bankrupt’

Labor Minister Says France Is “Totally Bankrupt” (ZeroHedge, Jan 28, 2013):

Things in France must not be very serious, because the French labor minister accidentally let the truth come out a little earlier today. As the Telegraph reports, France’s labour minister sent the country into a state of shock on Monday after he described the nation as “totally bankrupt.

Remember: France is one of the supposedly stable countries in Europe.

“Michel Sapin made the gaffe in a radio interview, which left French President Francois Hollande battling to undo the potential reputational damage. “There is a state but it is a totally bankrupt state,” Mr Sapin said. “That is why we had to put a deficit reduction plan in place, and nothing should make us turn away from that objective.” It appears that once one wipes out the propaganda and the smooth politico talk, things are bad and getting worse at Europe’s core. “Data from Banque de France showed earlier this month that a flight of capital has already left the country amid concerns that France’s Socialist leader intends to soak the rich and businesses. The actor Gérard Depardieu has renounced his French citizenship and decamped to Russia in protest, while David Cameron said Britain will “roll out the red carpet” to attract wealthy individuals. Pierre Moscovici, the finance minister, said the comments by Mr Sapin were “inappropriate”.”

At least France can hike the tax on the millionaires to 75% to generate more money. Oh wait, no it can’t.

But if capital is leaving France, where is it going? The FT has the answer:

Another Reason For The Mali Incursion: Here Come The Drones

Here Come The Drones, Or The True Reason For The Mali Incursion (ZeroHedge, Jan 28, 2013):

Given our recent discussion (here and here) of the rising importance of Africa in the world’s power and money echelons, it is not entirely surprising that the NY Times reports that US military command in Africa is actively preparing to establish a drone base in northwest Africa to increase “unarmed surveillance missions on the local affiliate of Al Qaeda and other Islamist extremist groups” that American and other Western officials say pose a growing menace to the region. It would appear Niger will be the most likely place for the base – from which officials envision flying only unarmed surveillance drones though, of course, they have not ruled out conducting missile strikes at some point if the threat worsens. “This is directly related to the Mali mission, but it could also give Africom a more enduring presence for I.S.R.,” one American military official said Sunday, referring to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Perhaps, actually scratch the “perhaps”, what is really happening is the US now has a drone base with which to supervise Chinese expansion in Northweast Africa, anda drone fleet to use defensively and offensively as it sees fit.

Italian Scandal Widens As Italy’s Third Largest Bank Set To Get Third Bailout In 3 Years; Draghi, Monti Implicated

You can’t make this stuff up!

Italian Scandal Widens As Italy’s Third Largest Bank Set To Get Third Bailout In 3 Years; Draghi, Monti Implicated (ZeroHedge, Jan 26, 2013):

While little has been said in the mainstream western press about the ongoing fiasco surrounding Siena’s Banca Monte dei Pasci, Italy’s third largest bank and the world’s oldest which may get its third bailout in three years – or even be nationalized – as soon as today, for fears that it may break the thin veneer of “recovery” in the European financial system, the situation on the ground in Italy is getting more serious by the minute, and will have implications on both next month’s general election, on Mario Monti, on Silvio Berlusconi, on frontrunner for the Prime Minister post Pier Luigi Bersani, and reach as far up as the head of the ECB – Mario Draghi.Several hours ago, on Saturday morning, the four-member board of the Bank of Italy – this time without its prior president Mario Draghi – met to consider the position of scandal-hit bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena and decide whether to authorize its request for 3.9 billion euros ($5.3 billion) of state loans.

As Euro Banks Return €137 Billion In Cash, Moody’s Warns “European Banks Need More Cash”

As Euro Banks Return €137 Billion In Cash, Moody’s Warns “European Banks Need More Cash” (ZeroHedge, Jan 25, 2013):

Europe has now officially become the Schrodinger continent, demanding both sides of the economic coin so to speak, and is stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place (or “a cake and eating it”). On one hand it wants to telegraph its financial system is getting stronger, and doesn’t need trillions in implicit and explicit ECB backstops, on the other it needs a liquidity buffer against an economy that, especially in the periphary, is rapidly deteriorating (Spanish bad debt just hit a new all time high while Italian bad loans rose by 16.7% in one year as more and more assets become impaired). On one hand it wants a strong currency to avoid any doubt that there is redenomination risk, on the other it desperately needs a weak currency to spur exports out of the Eurozone (as Spain showed when the EUR plunged in 2012, however that weak currency is now a distant memory and it is now seriously weighing on exports). On the one hand Europe wants to show its banks have solidarity with one another and will support each other, on the other those banks that are in a stronger position can’t wait to shed the stigma of being associated with the weak banks (in this case by accepting LTRO bailouts).

It is the latest that is the most glaring dichotomy because as reported earlier, while some 278 banks, or about half of the original LTRO participants, voluntarily paid back some €137 billion to the ECB, it is none other than Moody’s warning that European banks, especially those in the periphery, will need much more cash.

Commitee Of 300 Member Jean-Claude Juncker Compares 2013 To 1913: ‘The Year 1913 And The Year 2013 Have Endless Parallels’

Mir hu Frënn a Kollegen aus dem Pressewiese verluer, deene mir méi oder manner no stoungen, mä déi awer jiddwereen op seng Fassong a mat senger Eegenaart a mat sengem Temperament, mat sengem Typus ee Stéck Lëtzebuerg duergestallt huet. A déi gi vermësst an déi wäerte feelen an déi wuessen an där Aart a Weis wéi si waren, och net op een natierleche Sprong no.

Et war och ee schlecht Joer, well mir ee ganze Koup, am lëtzebuergesche Sënn vum Wuert Koup, Presseorganer verluer hunn. Et ass ni eng gutt Nouvelle wann ee Presseorgan seng Aktivitéiten astellt. Dat deet ëmmer, wann een d’Zeitunge gär huet, e bësse wéi an och dat ass ee Verloscht deen een ze bekloen huet an dat ass ee Verloscht deen och net kann ersat ginn duerch Neies wat géif spontan nowuessen.

Et war awer och ee Joer wou vill, muenech Presseorganer sech nei ugedo hunn. Ech wëll hei déi eenzel net besichen, muss awer nach eng Kéier soen, datt ech fannen, datt deen neie Journal extrem gutt gemaach ass. Dat ass ee Pleséier fir en an den Hänn ze hunn, net ëmmer ee Pleséier fir mech fir en ze liesen, mä awer ee Pleséier fir en an den Hänn ze hunn. Den Inhalt ass zwar méi wichteg wéi d’Form, mä d’Form ass awer net onwiesentlech, well d’Verhältnis zu den Zeitungen, dat ass och ee Fillen, ee Spieren, ee Richen, ee Bliederen. Woumat ech gläichzäiteg gesot hunn, datt ech kee grousse Konsument vun Online-Déngschter sinn. Well déi richen ech net, och wa si heiansdo schlecht richen an déi kann ech net erueweren, well ech sinn net fräi an der Wiel vun deem wat ech wëll liesen.

Mir sinn an engem Joer ukomm 2013, wat eng besonnesch Bedeitung huet, wann ee sech fir Geschicht interesséiert. Ech sinn e bëssen iwwerrascht driwwer – à moins datt ech dat iwwersinn hunn, mä esou eppes iwwersinn ech selten – datt an der Lëtzebuerger Publizistik sech net mat der Bedeitung vum Joer 1913 a mat deem wat zanterhier geschitt ass beschäftegt gëtt. Ganz am Géigesaz zum Rescht vun der internationaler Publizistik, wou dat een dominéierend Thema vun der Joreswend war.1913, well mir am Joer 13 sinn a well an der Zuel 13 jo Mueneches dra läit. Mir huet d’Zuel 13 iwweregens ëmmer Gléck bruecht, dat wëll ech just als Virwarnung hei soen.

Do gesitt Dir eng Friddensgleewegkeet déi ongebändegt war. An déi a kengerlei Hisiicht de Stuerm verroden huet, dee schonn am Joer 1914 iwwert Europa fir d’éischt am éischte Weltkrich a fir d’zweet am zweete Weltkrich eragebrach ass. Dat Joer 1913 huet onendlech vill Parallele mam Joer 2013. Oder d’Joer 2013 huet onendlech vill Parallele mam Joer 1913. Jiddweree wier gutt beroden déi Joere mateneen ze vergläichen, 13 an 13. An déi 100 Joer déi dertëschent leien an och déi Tatsaach ze wierdegen, mat deem ofkléngenden Enthusiasmus deen déi Würdegung mat sech bréngt, datt mir och am Joer 1913 gemengt hunn de Fridden wier definitiv geséchert, well mir deemools 42 Joer Fridden an Europa hannert eis haten. An eis Generatiounen, obschonns si näischt domat ze dinn hunn, bretze sech nawell gären domat, datt mir et nach ni fäerdeg bruecht hunn esou laang Friddensperioden an Europa ze erhalen, wéi déi déi mir hunn. Et ass richteg, si ass méi laang wéi hir Virgängerin vum Enn vum 19. Jorhonnert – an deem 19. Jorhonnert si meng Grousselteren nach gebuer – an deem wat mir elo hunn. D’Saache leien no beieneen an d’Saache beréiere sech wéi ech hoffen op eng net dramatesch Aart a Weis.

Farmers Land Stolen For GM Food Production

Farmers Land Stolen for GM Food Production (Activist Post, Jan 22, 2013):

Barb’s note: Recently, a ban on GMOs in Poland has been applauded as a step in the right direction. However, a little bit of digging uncovers the real agenda. This is not a real ban, but a deceptive act that actually opens the gateway for GMO production in Poland where none previously existed. Please read the following expose by Sir Julian Rose, who is on the front lines fighting this takeover.

Sir Julian Rose

ICPPC

Greetings demonstrating farmers!

I am an English farmer and Polish patriot. I want you to know: your actions are being supported by a growing number of farmers in other Countries as the news of this Polish Resistance spreads around the World.

I am proud to be able to support your efforts to secure your land and prevent multinational corporations and government stealing it away from you and from future generations.

Once it’s lost we will never get it back.

It is a vital battle that you are fighting. Listen carefully: it is now becoming clear that the land which the Polish government is trying to secure for multinational corporations is for use as “designated GMO areas” to conform with European Union ‘free trade’ regulations.

The recently passed “Seeds Act”, to be effective as of January 28th, bans the planting of GM seeds but allows their trading (Maize Mon 810 and Amflora GM potato). The government has lied to the people of Poland about this, claiming that they are prohibiting GM seeds from being planted.
