Sen. Bernie Sanders Passionately Decries The American Oligarchy On The Senate Floor (Video)

Bernie Sanders Passionately Decries the American Oligarchy on the Senate Floor (Liberty, Blitzkrieg, Sep 20, 2013):

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the longest serving Independent member of Congress in American history. While I certainly don’t agree with him on everything, I have always respected his willingness to call out the Federal Reserve for the fascist cartel that it is. He has often accurately called it “socialism for the rich.”

Back in 2010 he explained:

The Federal Reserve loaned $16.1 billion to General Electric and $3 billion to JPMorgan Chase during the 2008 financial crisis, even as Jeffrey R. Immelt of G.E. and Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan sat on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York board of directors. “It is an obvious conflict of interest,” Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Sunday.  Sanders wrote the amendment to the Wall Street reform law that required the Fed to disclose some 21,000 transactions involving more than $3.3 trillion during the financial crisis. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke tried to keep the information secret. It appears  that we are very much a country in which we practice socialism for the rich and rugged capitalism for everyone else.

Bernie recently took to the Senate floor to decry the plutocratic, oligarch driven Banana Republic that America has turned into ever since the Wall Street coup of 2008. In a town filled with unconscious money grabbing zombies, he is a giant breath of fresh air. Enjoy.

Bolivian President Morales Brands President Obama As A ‘CRIMINAL’, Prepares Lawsuit To Condemn Him For Crimes Against Humanity

Bolivian president to sue US govt for crimes against humanity (RT, Sep 20, 2013):

Bolivian President Evo Morales will file a lawsuit against the US government for crimes against humanity. He has decried the US for its intimidation tactics and fear-mongering after the Venezuelan presidential jet was blocked from entering US airspace.

“I would like to announce that we are preparing a lawsuit against Barack Obama to condemn him for crimes against humanity,” said President Morales at a press conference in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz. He branded the US president as a “criminal” who violates international law.

In solidarity with Venezuela, Bolivia will begin preparing a lawsuit against the US head of state to be taken to the international court. Furthermore, Morales has called an emergency meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to discuss what has been condemned by Venezuela as “an act of intimidation by North American imperialism.”

The Bolivian president has suggested that the members of CELAC withdraw their ambassadors from the US to send a message to the Obama Administration. As an additional measure he will call on the member nations of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas to boycott the next meeting of the UN. Members of the Alliance include Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Saint Lucia.

“The US cannot be allowed to continue with its policy of intimidation and blockading presidential flights,”
stressed Morales.

Chicago Gun Violence So Severe That State Lawmaker Requests National Guard Help

13 shot in park: ‘My younger brother was on the floor’ (Chicago Tribune, Sep 20, 2013):

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said a mass shooting at a South Side park shows why assault weapons should be banned, saying it was a “miracle” no one was killed when someone opened fire with a high-powered rifle at a pick-up basketball game.

“A military-grade weapon on the streets of Chicago is simply unacceptable,”  McCarthy told a news conference this morning, 12 hours after a 3-year-old boy and 12 other people were shot during at Cornell Square Park. All are expected to survive.

“It’s a miracle there has been no fatality,” he said. “Illegal guns, illegal guns, illegal guns drive violence.”

Stanley Freeman Druckenmiller (Wikipedia):

Stanley Freeman Druckenmiller (born June 14, 1953) is an American hedge fund manager, he is the former Chairman and President of Duquesne Capital, which he founded in 1981. He closed the fund in August 2010 because he felt unable to deliver high returns to his clients.  At the time of closing, Duquesne Capital had over $12 billion in assets.

From 1988 to 2000, he managed money for George Soros as the lead portfolio manager for Quantum Fund. He is reported to have made $260 million in 2008.

Druckenmiller Blasts “The Biggest Redistribution Of Wealth From The Poor To The Rich Ever” (ZeroHedge, Sep 19, 2013):

Reflecting on exactly what was said yesterday, Duquesne’s Stanley Druckenmiller is initially perplexed as Bernanke explained ‘financial conditions’ – not interest rates – have prompted the decision to forestall any taper. His confusion is that financial conditions are actually slightly better than they were in June and “a stock market at an all-time high would suggest we don’t have a problem with financial conditions.” While he dismisses surveys, the big-money was betting that they were going to taper as is clear from the moves in gold, bonds, and stocks; and it appears the Fed “lost their nerve.” In fact, Druck continues, the Fed “blew it… they had a freebie,” they could have started the process to “get us off the dope.” This action, or inaction, he warns “is going to make it so much harder for the next Chairman to start the process.” In fact, he concludes, that from beginning to end – once markets adjust from these subsidized prices – that the wealth effect of QE will have been negative not positive.

NHK Newsline, Sept. 19, 2013 (Transcript Excerpts): The people in charge of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant have yet another problem on their hands. They say they found cracks in the brace supporting an exhaust pipe. Authorities are concerned the pipe could collapse in another earthquake […] Officials with Tepco say they spotted cracks in 8 places on the steel brace that holds the pipe upright. […] Overseers at the nuclear regulation authority are demanding that company officials investigate immediately. They want to know if the structure can withstand another earthquake.

NHK WORLD English, Sept. 18, 2013: […] workers on Wednesday discovered the cracks and cuts at 8 places in the buttress about 66 meters above the ground. The Nuclear Regulation Authority has ordered the company to assess the capacity of the pipe to withstand an earthquake as quickly as possible. The 120-meter vertical pipe stands between the number-1 and number-2 reactor buildings. […] they believe the 2011 earthquake damaged the steel framework. They say they have not observed any obvious damage in the pipe itself. The officials say they are considering how to access the pipe to assess its strength. The area around the pipe is contaminated with high levels of radiation measuring 10 sieverts per hour.

Probe launched over claim that elite Capitol Police unit blocked from Navy Yard massacre (FOX News, Sep 19, 2013):

The board that oversees the U.S. Capitol Police has opened an investigation into whether a tactical team of officers that was one of the first on the scene during the Washington Navy Yard shooting was ordered to stand down.

Several sources confirmed the probe to Fox News. The investigation follows reports that a highly trained and specialized Capitol Police team arrived soon after the shooting started, but was told by a supervisor to leave the scene.

The BBC, which first reported on the allegation, quoted a Capitol Police “source” as claiming “lives may have been saved” if the team could have intervened.

Aaron Alexis killed 12 people at the Washington Navy yard before he, too, was killed. The emerging allegations raise questions as to whether the tactical team could have stepped in earlier to stop the violence.

Janet Tavacoli: Why Obama Allowed Bailouts Without Indictments

From the article:

The government’s bailout plan destroyed capitalism. In a capitalist system, those who stood to gain–and already made off with large gains—would have to bear the risk. The bailouts represented a corruption of capitalism. Crony capitalism violates the spirit of democracy established by the Founding Fathers of the republic known as the United States. I expressed these sentiments in a letter to the Financial Times on September 29, 2008.

Why Obama Allowed Bailouts Without Indictments (Tavacoli Structured Finance, Sep 10, 2013):

By Janet Tavacoli

In November 2008, President Obama was elected, and he was sworn in January 2009. The country was promised change and reform. Recently two democrats close to the top of President Obama’s administration made excuses to me for the lack of financial reform in the United States. Their separately related versions were remarkably similar, so similar they seemed scripted:

The administration made a bargain, and I’m not sure it was the right decision. The world was teetering on the edge of collapse. There was a crisis of confidence. There would have been unimaginable consequences. So bad even your imagination can’t handle the truth?

Janet Yellen: What A Horrifying Choice For Fed Chairman She Would Be

Janet Yellen: What A Horrifying Choice For Fed Chairman She Would Be (Economic Collapse, Sep 18, 2013):

Are you ready for Janet Yellen?  Wall Street wants her, the mainstream media wants her and it appears that her confirmation would be a slam dunk.  She would be the first woman ever to chair the Federal Reserve, and her philosophy is that a little bit of inflation is actually good for an economy.  She was reportedly the architect for many of the unprecedented monetary decisions that Ben Bernanke made during his tenure, and that has many on Wall Street and in the media very excited.  Noting that we “already know that Yellen is on board with Bernanke’s easy money policies”, CNN recently even went so far as to publish a rabidly pro-Yellen article with this stunning headline: “Dear Mr. President: Name Yellen now!”  But after watching what a disaster Bernanke has been, do we really want more of the same?  It doesn’t really matter whether she is a woman, a man, a giant lizard or a robot, the question is whether or not she is going to continue to take us down the path to ruin that Bernanke has taken us.  As I have written about so many times, the Federal Reserve is at the very heart of our economic problems, and under Bernanke the Fed has created a mammoth financial bubble unlike anything that we have ever seen before.  If Yellen keeps us going down that road, financial disaster is inevitable.

Sadly, Yellen is not a woman that believes in free markets.  She had the following to say back in 1999:

Phone Companies Remain Silent Over Legality Of NSA Data Collection

Phone companies remain silent over legality of NSA data collection (Guardian, Sep 18, 2013):

Leading phone firms refuse to say why they have not challenged Fisa court orders that compel them to hand over customers’ data

America’s top telecommunications companies are refusing to say whether they accept that the bulk collection of their customers’ phone records by the National Security Agency is lawful.

The phone companies are continuing to guard their silence over the controversial gathering of metadata by the NSA, despite the increasingly open approach by those at the center of the bulk surveillance programme. On Tuesday the secretive foreign intelligence surveillance (Fisa) court declassified its legal reasoning for approving the NSA telephone metadata program periodically over the past six years.

Russia’s Lavrov: UNSC Resolution On Syria Won’t Be Under Chapter 7 Allowing Use Of Force

UNSC Resolution On Syria Won’t Be Under Chapter 7 Allowing Use Of Force – Lavrov (RT, Sep 17, 2013):

The resolution that the UN Security Council is to adopt in support of the plan to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons won’t refer to Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, regulating the use of military force on behalf of the council, Sergey Lavrov says.

The foreign minister explained Russia’s position on the future document after meeting his French counterpart Laurent Fabius in Moscow.

The resolution, Lavrov stressed, is meant only to affirm the support of the UNSC to the roadmap for destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile, which will be penned by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Syria Tells Russia It Has Proof Rebels Used Chemical Weapons

Syria tells Russia it has proof rebels used chemicals (BBC News, Sep 18, 2013):

Syria has given Russia new “material evidence” that opposition fighters in the Syrian conflict have used chemical weapons, a Russian minister has said.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also said a report by UN inspectors on the alleged use of chemical weapons was “politicised, biased and one-sided”.

He said the inspectors had only looked at evidence of an alleged attack on 21 August, not three previous incidents.

The UN team found that the nerve agent Sarin was used in the 21 August attack.

The report, however, did not apportion blame for the attack but Western nations blame the government forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Damascus – backed by Russia – says opposition forces are to blame.

Here It Comes: Obama Calls For Gun Control, Again, In Aftermath Of Shipyard Shootings

Flashback:

Joe Biden: Gun Control ‘Will Pass Before The Year Is Out’ (AP, April 27, 2013)

Here It Comes: Obama Calls For Gun Control, Again, In Aftermath Of Shipyard Shootings (ZeroHedge, Sep 18, 2013):

The bodies of the casualties from yesterday’s latest mass shooting incident have not been buried yet, but already the president, fresh from his embarrassing foreign relations defeat with Russia and not to mention the ongoing NSA snafu, is back in ‘distract em with a campaign-cum-crusade mode’ after calling, once again, for Congress to pass gun control legislation this time in an interview with Noticias Telemundo.

One can only assume the president was himself too distracted by all his recent scandals and/or was just spying too hard on the American people to recall that it was only in April that the Democratically-controlled Senate killed an amendment to a Democratic gun control bill, which was the first and biggest slap in the face of the freshly re-elected president so far in 2013 (little did we know it was only downhill from there), and made a mockery of Obama’s crusade to enact gun control.

Either way, for whatever reason, here’s Obama:

President Obama called on Congress on Tuesday to revisit gun control legislation, saying in the wake of Monday’s deadly mass shooting at the Washington  Navy Yard that lawmakers should take what he considers “basic actions” to toughen the nation’s gun laws.

U.S. Government Confiscates Midtown Manhattan Skyscraper, One Time Ivan Boesky HQ, From Iran

US Government Confiscates Midtown Manhattan Skyscraper, One Time Ivan Boesky HQ, From Iran (ZeroHedge, Sep 18, 2013):

A week ago when we presented the missing link in the “all cash” housing recovery, namely laundered, embezzled or simply stolen off-shore sourced cash parked in the US real estate market which takes advantage of the NAR’s generous anti-money laundering provision exemption, we asked what we thought would be a rhetorical question: “just how far will Preet Bharara take this, and comparable such future actions?” Turns out the answer is quite a bit farther, and higher. And not only that, but instead of just targeting residential real estate, the US attorney in Manhattan, is now focusing on commercial real estate as well.

As CNN reported moments ago, the US government has seized an iconic midtown Manhattan skyscraper, one where none other than Ivan Boesky plotted his insider trading schemes in the 1980s, that prosecutors claim is secretly owned and controlled by the Iranian government. The skyscraper in question is 650 Fifth Avenue, also known as the Piaget building.

Does the NSA Violate Your Constitutional Rights?

FYI.

YouTube Added: 17.09.2013

Description:

Does the NSA violate your constitutional rights? Do you think the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits warrants without probable cause and limits them to specific places, times, and people, is important today? Prof. James Otteson suggests that this protection is incredibly important. Without this limitation on warrants, officials could look for wrongdoing at will. Where there are witch hunts, witches will be found, and officials with unlimited authority to seek out wrong doing are going to find it. Protections such as the Fourth Amendment are especially important for people who make choices that don’t fit with mainstream thinking. People who choose to pursue happiness in unconventional ways or ways that differ from the majority should be free to do those things. These freedoms enable Americans to find their own paths to happiness as free and equal citizens. What value do you place on your constitutional rights in the United States?

India Escalates Gold Capital Controls, Hikes Import Duty On Gold Jewerly From 10% To 15%

World’s biggest gold coin

India Escalates Gold Capital Controls, Hikes Duty On Gold Jewerly Imports To 15% (ZeroHedge, Sep 17, 2013):

Anyone following the Indian economy and capital markets has been witness to what is the worst case outcome for a modern-day central banker: on one hand forced to keep inflation down, on the other fighting a fierce capital outflow which recently shocked Rupee holders by send the currency to all time lows against the dollar and sending gold priced in INR to record highs. All of this is, of course, happening as India fights tooth and nail to keep its monthly trade deficit under control, not overpay for oil, and keep businesses running now that inflation expectations are becoming unanchored. And, as we have reported previously, the biggest scapegoat to the Indian central bank and government is, understandably, gold, which has been the source of much of the population’s “wealth preservation” currency outflow.

As a result, India has unleashed the most unprecedented series of gold “capital controls” ever seen in a modern nation, shy of confiscation (and even that may be imminent). Today, India added yet another more measure to its list of prohibitions that seek to minimize the size of the gold market available to citizens, yet which will only result in even more interest and demand in the yellow metal. As Reuters reports, India increased its import duty on gold jewellery from 10 percent to 15 percent, setting it higher than the duty on raw gold in a move to protect the domestic jewellery industry.

Why is the government doing this? Simple: “To protect the interests of small artisans, the customs duty on articles of jewellery … is being increased,” the ministry said.

Scientific estimates predict that the radioactive plume travelling east across the Pacific will likely hit the shores of Oregon, Washington State and Canada early next year. California will probably be impacted later that year. Because the ongoing flow of water from the reactor site will be virtually impossible to stop, a radioactive plume will continue to migrate across the Pacific affecting Hawaii, North America, South America and eventually Australia for many decades.

Gap in employment rates between rich, poor at widest levels in records dating back a decade (AP, Sep 16, 2013):

The gap in employment rates between America’s highest- and lowest-income families has stretched to its widest levels since officials began tracking the data a decade ago, according to an analysis of government data conducted for The Associated Press.

Rates of unemployment for the lowest-income families _ those earning less than $20,000 _ have topped 21 percent, nearly matching the rate for all workers during the 1930s Great Depression.

Vet in Navy Yard shooting had troubled past (FOX News, Sep 17, 2013):

Aaron Alexis, the Navy vet suspected in the killing of 12 people at Washington’s Navy Yard, had a troubled past that included two previous arrests involving shootings and a “history of misconduct” in the Navy.

Alexis, who friends described as a convert to Buddhism, was arrested in Fort Worth in 2010 after firing a gun into his neighbor’s apartment, leaving her “terrified,” according to a police report.

In addition, he was arrested in 2004 in Seattle for shooting out the tires of a construction worker’s car in an incident he later described as “an anger-fueled blackout.”

He also told Seattle police he had witnessed the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attack and “how these events had disturbed him,” according to a police report.

Alexis’ father told police in 2004 his son had participated in rescue efforts during 9/11 and had suffered post traumatic stress disorder. This could not be independently confirmed.

Washington – Aaron Alexis, the 34-year-old suspect in Monday’s shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, had “secret” clearance and was assigned to start working there as a civilian contractor with a military-issued ID card, his firm’s chief executive told Reuters.

Half Of Syrian Rebels Are Jihadists Fighting For Al Qaeda-Linked Groups, British Defense Study Finds (ZeroHedge, Sep 16, 2016):

Until now, there was mostly speculation and conjecture that among the Syrian “rebel” parties assisted by the Obama administration and the west in their attempt to overthrow Assad, are various groups either supported or comprising of factions consisting of Al Qaeda, Jihadists and other extremist Islamic group. That speculation is now fact according to extracts from a British defense study published in Monday’s Daily Telegraph, according to which Jihadists and members of hardline Islamist groups make up almost half of forces fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. As AFP reported, the analysis by defense consultancy IHS Jane’s, due to be published in full later this week, puts the number of rebel forces at around 100,000. And half of this number are combatants on an ideological crusade against the west, who are partially or fully affiliated with Al Qaeda, and who will always seek a sponsor when carrying out whatever military operation is most profitable at any given moment. With Made In The USA weapons that is.
