– 60 Prominent Germans Appeal Against Another War In Europe: “It Is Not About Putin. What Is At Stake Is Europe” (Zerohedge, Dec 26,  2014):

Two weeks ago, as the S&P was preparing to surge on the latest round of all time high market-goosing algo trickery by the FOMC, 60 prominent German personalities from the realms of politics, economics, culture and the media were less concerned with blinking red and green stock quotes and were focused on something far more serious to the future of the world: the threat of war with Russia.

In a letter published by Germany’s Die Zeit, numerous famous and respected Germans including a former president and former prime minister write “Wieder Krieg in Europa? Nicht in unserem Namen!”, or, roughly translated, “War in Europe Again? Not in Our Names!

Blackrock Stunner: S&P 500 Profits Are 86% Higher Than They Would Be Without Accounting Fudges (Zerohedge, Dec 26,  2014):

“It becomes tempting to take on too much leverage, use financial wizardry to reward shareholders or even stretch accounting principles. S&P 500 profits are 86% higher than they would be if accounting standards of the national accounts were used, Pelham Smithers Associates notes. And the gap between the two measures is widening, the research firm finds.” – Blackrock

–  Belarus President Tells “Retailers, Money-Grabbers And Thieves” That Capital Controls “Will Remain Forever” (Zerohedge, Dec 26,  2014):

There is just so much win in the following article describing what is taking place in hyperinflation-ridden Belarus (aka a true Keynesian success story), that we decided to post it in its entirety.

State control of prices in Belarus will remain forever

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that state control over prices will remain in place in the republic and urged businesses not to count on a liberalization of the price policy after the scraping of a package of emergency measures from the government and the National Bank.

We Just Enjoyed the Last Christmas in America

We Just Enjoyed the Last Christmas in America  (of two minds, Dec 26,  2014):

Why will Christmas 2014 be the last Christmas in America? It’s simple: declining wages cannot support an ever-expanding mountain of debt. The Federal Reserve has played a game for six long years of lowering the cost of debt (i.e. the rate of interest borrowers must pay), which has enabled stagnating wages to support ever heavier debt loads. There is an endgame in sight to this financial trickery…

Nat Gas Tumbles Below $3 For The First Time Since 2012, Plunges 30% In 2014

Nat Gas Tumbles Below $3 For The First Time Since 2012, Plunges 30% In 2014 (Zerohedge, Dec 26,  2014):

For the past few months, the one silver lining to the energy complex – with crude oil plummeting to levels not seen since 2009 – was nat gas, which soared to the mid-$4s in early November on expectations of a brutal polar vortex for the second year in a row sending heating demand surging. Well, so far the “harsh” weather, which was blamed for the epic collapse in the US economy in Q1 has not materialized, and all those buyers of natgas contracts have been scrambling to sell all of their exposure afraid they may suffer the same fate as their crude trading brethren. End result: as of moments ago, nat gas finally slide under $3, the first time it has done so since 2012!

Nat Gas

This also means that while crude oil longs have had a horrible year, with nat gas now down 29% in 2014, and headed for the first annual decline since 2011 as mild weather leaves stockpiles at a surplus to year-ago levels for the first time in two years, yet another commodity is set to ring in margin calls for all those who are not long the USDJPY, pardon the S&P500, where the only trade off to daily all time highs is simply the total collapse of Japan as a nation state.

Chinese Stocks Soar To 4 Year High On Stimulus Hopes As Japan’s Economy Implodes; US Futures Rebound

Chinese Stocks Soar To 4 Year High On Stimulus Hopes As Japan’s Economy Implodes; US Futures Rebound (Zerohedge, Dec 26,  2014):

One group of Federal workers that is definitely not taking the day off, is the trading desk located on the 9th floor of the New York Fed, responsible for such things as preserving the “fair” value of the bond and the stock market and avoiding any sharp downward moves. Because if there is one thing on the “national security” agenda that must be avoided at all costs, it is a drop in the S&P in today’s trading session – after all now is when the official Santa rally begins and judging by the futures, which after a steep selloff in the last minute of trading on Wednesday have restored all their losses and then some, we may finally hit Goldman’s year end target of 2100, for 2015.

Ruble Rallies 34% After Biggest Russian Intervention In 5 Years

Ruble Rallies 34% After Biggest Russian Intervention In 5 Years (ZeroHedge, Dec 25, 2014):

Since the Russian Ruble troughed at almost 80 RUB/USD, it has rallied an impressive 34% erasing most of the dramatic devaluation of December. However, as The CBR just announced, this ‘strength’ came at a price. Russia burned through $15.7 billion of reserves in the week ending Dec 19th – the biggest percentage weekly drop in reserves since Jan 2009, leaving reserves below $400 billion (still a significant amount) for the first time since Aug 2009. While CBR explained much of this will come back as repo trades mature, Vladimir Putin turned inward, blaming the government for “defects” in restructuring the economy.

The Ruble has soared in the last 2 weeks…

500 accidents an hour: Snowbound Moscow stuck in worst ever Christmas traffic (PHOTOS, VIDEO) (RT, Dec 25, 2014):

Moscow was gripped by the worst gridlock ever seen as unexpectedly severe snowfall hit the Russian capital on Christmas day, literally paralyzing the city. Police registered up to 500 road accidents an hour and 200 flights were delayed.

The longest traffic jam stretched 60 kilometers, or over 37 miles, Russia’s online road traffic monitoring service Yandex Probki (Yandex traffic jam), reported.

Yandex rates jams from 0 to 10 points.

“Guys, remember this historic day. It is the first time when 10 point was reached so early and for so long. It has been like that for 7 hours already. More is to come,” Yandex spokeswoman Elina Staviskaya posted on Facebook.

China’s Christmas Present To The World: Beijing Eases Again, Sets Non-Bank Deposit Reserve To Zero

–  China’s Christmas Present To The World: Beijing Eases Again, Sets Non-Bank Deposit Reserve To Zero (ZeroHedge, Dec 25, 2014):

In another Christmas surprise, China once again decided to adjust the cost of money, only this time instead of hiking, it eased, and in an effort to shore up the world’s second-largest economy, China Business News reported that the PBOC will waive reserve requirements for non-bank deposits.  As the WSJ adds, at a meeting with big financial institutions on Wednesday, the People’s Bank of China told participants that they will soon be able to add deposits from nonbank financial institutions to their calculations of their loan-to-deposit ratios, according to the executives. The move would add considerably to the banks’ deposits and allow them to lend more. Chinese stocks, which had been pricing in further easing by the PBOC for the past 3 months, a period during which the Shanghai Composite soared over 50%, were delighted by the latest easing move and surged even more, surging higher by the most in the past three weeks.

The right-wing city council of Angouleme in southwest France has come under fire for banishing homeless people from its city center, after it installed cages that completely cover benches used by local hobos.

The municipal deputy responsible for security, Joel Guitton, told AFP that the benches were “almost exclusively used by people who consume alcohol on a regular basis,” and claimed the decision was taken in concert with local traders, who complained that threatening behavior was driving away customers.

CDC Admits Its Researchers Were Exposed To Ebola Several Days Ago (ZeroHedge, Dec 25, 2014):

Somehow news about Ebola in the US managed to get past the Ron Klain media gauntlet.

Two months after stocks would tumble on the merest hint of an Ebola case in the US – a threat that has now largely been forgotten – the WaPo reports that researchers studying Ebola in a highly secure laboratory “mistakenly” allowed potentially lethal samples of the virus to be handled in a much less secure laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, agency officials said Wednesday.

The incident happened when Muhammad Jamal Ubeid and his 14-year-old sister stepped out of the school bus and started walking home in al-Issawiya, an Arab village and neighborhood in East Jerusalem, on Wednesday.

“An Israeli soldier fired a black rubber-coated bullet at the child from a close distance, injuring him under the eye,” Muhammad’s uncle told the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency.

The Federal Reserve and its bullion bank agents are actively using uncovered futures contracts to illegally manipulate the prices of precious metals in order to keep interest rates below the market rate. The purpose of manipulation is to support the U.S. dollar’s reserve status at a time when the dollar should be in decline from the over-supply created by QE and from trade and budget deficits.
