Navy Yard Shooting: Suspect Bought a Rusty Used Gun? For $400? FBI Photos

Navy Yard Shooting: Suspect Bought a Rusty Used Gun? For $400? FBI Photos (American Everyman, Sep 27, 2013):

According to the official story of the Navy Yard Shooting, Aaron Alexis went to the store the weekend before the shooting and bought a Remington 870 Express Tactical shotgun. They claim there is video of him making that purchase, but the FBI has that video so we’ll never see it.

Anyway, when I saw the images of the shotgun released by the FBI this past week, something jumped out at me: he bought what appears to be a used piece of crap shotgun?

The gun has rust on it. RUST. And he supposedly bought it from a gun dealer just days before the shooting? Who would sell a POS gun like that in their store?

From the looks of it, I would be surprised if that gun even worked.

When Bubbles Fail: Albert Edwards Explains What Happens When The Fed Can No Longer Contain The Fury Of The ‘99%

When Bubbles Fail: Albert Edwards Explains What Happens When The Fed Can No Longer Contain The Fury Of The “99%” (ZeroHedge, Sep 27, 2013):

The premise in Albert Edwards’ latest letter “Is the Fed blowing bubbles to cover up growing inequality… again” is simple: the unprecedented social inequality in the US (and the rest of the world – as pointed out here), and what it will ultimately lead to. Regarding what it will lead to, Edwards believes, is that “growing inequality drains the swimming pool dry. The crunch, when it comes, will be ugly.” Simple enough.

Looting the Pension Funds

All across America, Wall Street is grabbing money meant for public workers

In the final months of 2011, almost two years before the city of Detroit would shock America by declaring bankruptcy in the face of what it claimed were insurmountable pension costs, the state of Rhode Island took bold action to avert what it called its own looming pension crisis. Led by its newly elected treasurer, Gina Raimondo – an ostentatiously ambitious 42-year-old Rhodes scholar and former venture capitalist – the state declared war on public pensions, ramming through an ingenious new law slashing benefits of state employees with a speed and ferocity seldom before seen by any local government.

Nuclear Industry Report: ‘Reduced stability’ of fuel pool in Fukushima Unit 4; Admits there’s damaged fuel inside? — Gundersen: Fuel racks moved and damaged; Fallen debris distorted tops (AUDIO) (ENENews, Sep 27, 2013):

World Nuclear News, Sept. 26, 2013 (Emphasis Added): […] Underwater inspections in the [Unit 4] pond have shown most of the fuel to be undamaged, but the pond contains a lot of dust and debris which will complicate operations. […] Its full core load of fuel, plus used fuel from previous operation, was being stored in a fuel pool at the top of the reactor building. […] The stability of the pool was then reduced by major structural damage to the building caused by the ignition of hydrogen […]

[…] One of two things is going to happen. They’re either going to pull too hard and snap the bundle, or they’re going to be unable to pull all of the fuel out of the pool.

The Ugly Face of Tyranny: Feinstein Comes For Your Right To Speak Freely Online (SHFTplan, Sep 26, 2013):

Senator Dianne Feinstein has taken up the fight for truth and liberty, just as she has done for health care and the widespread disarmament of American citizens.

This month Congess has been debating a new media shield law, which according to its authors, aims to protect journalists and bloggers from being forced to testify about their work should their sources or information come into question.

How An Enron Billionaire, Wall Street And A Major ‘Nonpartisan’ Foundation Are Quietly Robbing American Workers

Exposed: Enron billionaire’s diabolical plot to loot worker pensions (Salon, Sep 26, 2013):

How an Enron billionaire, Wall Street and a major “nonpartisan” foundation are quietly robbing American workers

This Pew-Arnold partnership began informally in 2011 and 2012 when both organizations marshaled resources to try to set the stage for retirement benefit cuts in California, Florida, Rhode Island and Kansas. With legislative success in three of those four states, Pew and Arnold created a formal partnership in late 2012 that targeted another three states, Arizona, Kentucky and Montana.

This formal partnership continues today, with the organizations issuing joint reports and conducting joint legislative briefings advocating cuts to guaranteed retirement income. It is widely expected that this partnership will continue working in these same states and potentially expand operations into Colorado, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Nevada.

Obamacare failures begin: D.C. health exchange prices are broken until mid-November (Natural News, Sep 27, 2013):

Less than a week before the “official” roll-out of Obamacare and the system is in a shambles.

Americans remain fearful and confused about the new law. Benefits and pricing still hasn’t been worked out. And worse, some of the state and territorial exchanges called for under the law are already on life support.

Pulitzer Prize Winner Seymour Hersh On Obama, NSA And The ‘Pathetic’ American Media

“We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years.
It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.”
– David Rockefeller, Bilderberg meeting 1991

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar weekly salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”
– John Swinton, former New York Times Chief of Staff

Pulitzer Prize winner explains how to fix journalism, saying press should ‘fire 90% of editors and promote ones you can’t control’

Seymour Hersh on Obama, NSA and the ‘pathetic’ American media (Guardian, Sep 27, 2013):

Seymour Hersh has got some extreme ideas on how to fix journalism – close down the news bureaus of NBC and ABC, sack 90% of editors in publishing and get back to the fundamental job of journalists which, he says, is to be an outsider.

It doesn’t take much to fire up Hersh, the investigative journalist who has been the nemesis of US presidents since the 1960s and who was once described by the Republican party as “the closest thing American journalism has to a terrorist”.

He is angry about the timidity of journalists in America, their failure to challenge the White House and be an unpopular messenger of truth.

Don’t even get him started on the New York Times which, he says, spends “so much more time carrying water for Obama than I ever thought they would” – or the death of Osama bin Laden. “Nothing’s been done about that story, it’s one big lie, not one word of it is true,” he says of the dramatic US Navy Seals raid in 2011.

Hersh is writing a book about national security and has devoted a chapter to the bin Laden killing. He says a recent report put out by an “independent” Pakistani commission about life in the Abottabad compound in which Bin Laden was holed up would not stand up to scrutiny. “The Pakistanis put out a report, don’t get me going on it. Let’s put it this way, it was done with considerable American input. It’s a bullshit report,” he says hinting of revelations to come in his book.

Feds To Frackers: ‘No, Please – Let Us Help You Find A Place To Dump Your Wastewater’

Feds to frackers: “No, please — let us help you find a place to dump your wastewater” (Grist, Sep 25, 2013):

The Northeast’s fracking boom has left drillers with millions and millions of barrels of wastewater and nowhere to dump it. Some frackers have simply injected into deep wells, causing earthquakes; others have simply allowed their waste to flow into rivers.

Big government to the rescue: The Department of Energy will fund a $1.8 million, two-year project by Battelle that aims to find somewhere to stash that gross dross for an eternity.

From the Columbus Dispatch:

With more drilling and fracking expected, oil and gas companies will need to find the best locations to safely inject more waste, said Neeraj Gupta, senior research leader for Battelle’s subsurface-resources group.

Looting Public Pensions: A New Think-Tank Study (Rolling Stone, by Matt Taibbi, Sep 26, 2013):

So we have a new feature out today, “Looting the Pension Funds,” that looks at the blame game being played with state and municipal fiscal crises and the hiring of ultra-expensive “alternative investments” like hedge funds as a key trend in an evolving pension reform movement. The story looks at the role in the organized nationwide “pension reform” movement played by right-wing financiers like former Enron billionaire John Arnold and fee-hungry Wall Street honchos like Third Point billionaire Dan Loeb.

I was originally turned on to this story by old friend David Sirota, who wrote a massive report on the subject for a new progressive think tank, the Institute for America’s Future. We talked about the subject a lot in the last months and timed it so that his report would also be released today. I urge everyone to read his report (you can find it here), which goes into far more detail than my piece did, especially about Arnold and his relationship with “centrist” organizations like Pew Charitable Trusts.

LA officials may delay school iPad rollout after students hack them in a week (engadget, Sep 26, 2013):

Just a week after it began the first phase of putting iPads in the hands of all 640,000 students in the region, the Los Angeles school district already has a fight on its hands. In a matter of days, 300 children at Theodore Roosevelt High School managed to work around protective measures placed on the Apple tablets, giving them complete access to features — including Facebook, Twitter and other apps — that should otherwise have been blocked.

$5.25 Million For Senate Hair Care And 21 Other Ways Politicians Are Living The High Life At Your Expense

$5.25 Million For Senate Hair Care And 21 Other Ways Politicians Are Living The High Life At Your Expense (Economic Collapse, Sep 25, 2013):

If you want to live the high life, you don’t have to become a rap star, a professional athlete or a Wall Street banker.  All it really takes is winning an election.  Right now, more than half of all the members of Congress are millionaires, and most of them leave “public service” far wealthier than when they entered it.  Since most of them have so much money, you would think that they would be willing to do a little “belt-tightening” for the sake of the American people.  After all, things are supposedly “extremely tight” in Washington D.C. right now.  In fact, just the other day Nancy Pelosi insisted that there were “no more cuts to make” to the federal budget.  But even as they claim that things are so tough right now, our politicians continue to live the high life at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.  The statistics that I am about to share with you are very disturbing.  Please share them with everyone that you know.  The American people deserve the truth.

According to the Weekly Standard, an absolutely insane amount of money is being spent on the “hair care needs” of U.S. Senators:

Greece On The Verge? Military Special Forces Have 15 Demands… Or Else (ZeroHedge, Sep 26, 2013):

Greek government authorities are on alert after a union of Greek army reservists of Special Forces issued a statement urging the Greek administration to step down and make way for a national unity government. As Keep Talking Greece notes, the statement on the union’ website included 15 demands – including the resignation of the Greek President – and urged people to gather at the infamous Syntagma Square on Saturday. The statement was interpreted by some as a call to a “coup d’etat” – denied by the union – but prompted Greece’s Supreme Court to meet to discuss it.

Louis Vuitton Adjusts Business Model To Focus On The Oligarch Market

Louis Vuitton Adjusts Business Model to Focus on the Oligarch Market (Liberty Blitzkrieg, Sep 26, 2013):

You know you have entered Neo-Fedualism when high-end luxury retailers are struggling because there are no longer enough regular wealthy buyers anymore. As regular readers of this blog understand, this is due to the fact that central bankers and governments around the world have been redistributing and consolidating all global wealth to the top 0.01% oligarch crony class.

The corporate solution to this problem courtesy of Business Week is:

Louis Vuitton is raising its focus somewhat from the really affluent to the really, really affluent. The Paris-based conglomerate of fabulous and fussy things is launching a new line of very high-end leather handbags and accessories to complement its existing products, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Here’s What Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Thinks About Your Privacy Rights …

This is What Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Thinks About Your Privacy Rights… (Liberty Blitzkrieg, Sep 26, 2013):

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia spoke yesterday at the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s (NVTC) Titans breakfast gathering in McLean, Virginia. He discussed the fact that prior to a Supreme Court decision in 1967, there were no constitutional prohibitions on wiretaps because conversations were not explicitly granted privacy protection under the Fourth Amendment. He goes on to imply that he thinks it was better before such privacy rights existed. According to the AP:

Scalia said that before the court’s 1967 opinion on wiretapping, the high court held the view that there were no constitutional prohibitions on wiretaps because conversations were not explicitly granted privacy protection under the Fourth Amendment, which protects against Americans against unreasonable search and seizure of “their persons, houses, papers, and effects.”

But he said then the Warren court stepped in and found that “there’s a generalized right of privacy that comes from penumbras and emanations, blah blah blah, garbage.”

Blah, blah, blah garbage is how a Supreme Court Justice describes privacy protections. Protections that may have prevented FBI surveillance against Martin Luther King Jr., John Lennon and countless other activists. Remember that: All My Heroes Have FBI Files.
