It may not be an abrupt ICBM launch, but it certainly increases the odds of some unintentional, or fully intentional, provocation between the Ukrainian and Russian militaries which as we have been following over the weekend, are amassing in very disturbing numbers in Crimea and, soon, east Ukraine.

For those who missed our coverage over the past few days, here are some of the clips foreshadowing this “drill” announcement. The first clip below captured the 80th Airborne Regiment out of Lviv moving out, direction mainland, preparing to repel foreign attack.

Ukrainian Drone Captures Video Of Russian Troops Fortifying In The Crimea (ZeroHedge, March 9, 2014):

The only thing that is unclear about the following clip released by the Ukraine’s Border Guard supposedly capturing Russians “digging in” on a key route linking Crimea to the rest of the Ukraine, is what is funnier: that the Russian soldier is “painting” the drone with a laser flashlight, or that according to the Ukrainians said action was evidence the drone was being “shot at” by Russian soldiers.

As a follow up, here is another video made by a Ukrainian drone showing the distribution of Russian forces on the peninsula.

Ukraine: ‘World’s Oldest Pyramid’ Found In Crimea

Oldest, Largest Pyramids Found In Bosnia – Interview With Dr. Sam Osmanagich:

Russian military, Crimea earthquake hid by USGS, near ‘world’s oldest pyramid’ by Sevastopol (WTF RLY Report, March 4, 2014):

The Ukraine situation is getting strange. There are reports that the occupation in Crimea is curiously located near what is said to be the world’s oldest pyramid.

World’s oldest pyramid found in Crimea (AFP, Sep 3, 2012):

Monday, September 03, 2012 – Tblisi—A Ukrainian scientist discovered the oldest pyramid in the world in Crimea. As the ICTV channel reported, the finding was revealed by accident, when during his test alternative methods of finding water Ukrainian scientist Vitalii Goh discovered underground unknown object, which proved to be a giant pyramid of 45 meters in height and a length of about 72 meters. Goh said that the pyramid was built during the time of the dinosaurs, Crimea news agency or QHA reported.

“Crimean pyramid” has a truncated top, like a Mayan pyramid, but its appearance is more like an Egyptian. It is hollow inside, and a mummy of unknown creature is buried under the foundation. “Under the foundation is a small body in the form of a mummy long 1.3-1.4 meters with a crown on his head.”

“There is a resonance chamber of so-called Sphinx. The pyramids were built in the era of the dinosaurs,” says the scientist in an interview with ICTV.

What The US Media Won’t Tell You About Ukraine

Russia Has Longstanding 25,000 Troop Allowance In Crimea & Other Facts You May Not Know About

Another East-Ukraine City Falls To Pro-Russian Protesters As Ukraine Denies Sending Troops To Crimea (ZeroHedge, March 9, 2014):

Despite clear evidence otherwise, presented here extensively yesterday, this morning Ukraine has denied that is has “plans to send armed forces to Crimea” and instead Ukrainian troops are performing “training exercises” in base, Interfax news agency quoted Acting Defence Minister Ihor Tenyukh as saying on Sunday. Responding to media speculation about Ukrainian military movements after Russian forces took control of Crimea, Tenyukh said the only troop movements that might be seen would be from one base to another to take part in the training exercises. “No movements, no departures for Crimea by the armed forces are foreseen. They are doing their routine work which the armed have always had,” he said. Right, and Russia just happened to launch an ICBM as a “drill” in the middle of the greatest Cold War re-escalation in 30 years.

Adding somewhat to the confusion was the statement by Pavlo Shysholin, head of country’s border guard service tells reporters in Kiev, who said that so far Ukrainian border guards denied entry to 3,500 people and that Ukraine border troops remain in Crimea, would leave only if “forced” but more importanly:

  • UKRAINE BORDER TROOPS BOOST FORCES ON EAST BORDER: SHYSHOLIN

So there is an escalation in the mobilization, only not toward Crimea, which the Russians already control entirely, but the critical East, which as everyone knows, is the next target for Putin annexation once the Crimean referendum passes in one week.

Confirming just this were just released photos from another major city in east Ukraine, this time Lugansk, where pro-Russian protesters just stormed and took over the city administration building. Their demand: to be part of the March 16 referendum to become part of Russia.

BBC Now Admits: Armed Nazis Led “Revolution” in Kiev, Ukraine (The Daily Sheeple, March 7, 2014):

Like the West’s support of sectarian terrorists across the Middle East, including Al Qaeda, it has found the most despicable elements in Ukrainian society to lead “revolution” for the sociopolitical reordering of Eastern Europe. As the dust settles, and the West’s proxy regime finds itself safely entrenched in Kiev, Ukraine – the Western media can now finally recuperate some of its lost legitimacy after months of denying the obvious – that armed Neo-Nazis led the so-called “Euromaidan” uprising.

A BBC Newsnight short titled, “Neo-Nazi threat in new Ukraine,” reveals xenophobic Jew-hating nationalists, armed and leading the mobs in Kiev, directly contradicting months of Western media narratives portraying the rabble as aspiring for “freedom,” “democracy,” and “closer ties with the West,” with the most absurd example being  the “I am Ukrainian” propaganda reel.

Far from a “pro-democracy” uprising, the “Euromaidan” was yet another case of Western engineered regime change leveraging the good intentions of the ill-informed to mask the covert backing of ugly armed extremists, just as it had done all across the similarly engineered “Arab Spring” in 2011.

In the light of the BBC’s report, confirmed intercepted phone conversations between the EU and Estonia regarding the Ukrainian opposition’s hiring of snipers deployed against both police and protesters takes on a new degree of veracity with deepening implications. It also reframes US Senator John McCain’s taking to the stage in Kiev, side-by-side with these overt Nazis as an abhorrent, shameful act bordering on treason and material support of terrorism.

Warning Shots Fired At OSCE Mission In Crimea; Russia Warns Of Treaty Force Majeure Over “Unfriendly NATO Threats” (ZeroHedge, March 8, 2014):

Perhaps it is time to finally admit that anyone who thought Putin’s Tuesday press conference, which the market so jubilantly assumed was a case of “blinking” and de-escalating tensions with the west, was wrong. If there is still any confusion, following yesterday’s news that Gazprom officially threatened Ukraine with cutting off its gas supplies, as well as the storming of a Ukraine base by Russian troops – luckily with no shots fired so far – then today’s developments should any remaining doubts. Moments ago AP reported that as the latest, third in a row, group of OSCE inspectors tried to enter Ukraine, they were not only barred from doing so, but warnings shots were fired to emphasize the point by pro-Russian forces.

From AP:

An Associated Press reporter says pro-Russian forces refused to let a foreign military mission enter Crimea on Saturday.

After the officers had stopped, the armed men fired warning bursts of automatic weapons fire into the air to make other unidentified vehicles halt. No injuries were reported.

Russian Troops in Crimea Storm Ukrainian Base (TIME, March 7, 2014):

Russian troops reportedly launched an attack on a Ukrainian base outside the Crimean port city of Sevastopol—risking a dangerous escalation of the present crisis

Russian troops began storming a Ukrainian military base on the Crimean peninsula soon after dark on Friday, ramming the gates with a truck and rushing inside, a Colonel of the Ukrainian air force tells TIME. Within two hours, the Russian forces managed to seize part of the Ukrainian air force base at the edge of Sevastopol, the city that also houses Russia’s Black Sea naval fleet.

“The attack is on,” says Colonel Viktor Kukharchenko, the deputy commander of another Ukrainian air force base in Crimea. “The Russian forces are now trying to take the rest of the base. Their commander is negotiating with our forces, demanding they lay down their arms and surrender.” He said he was not aware any shots being fired in the course of the attack. A spokesman for Ukraine’s defense ministry confirmed that the A-2355 base outside Sevastopol had been stormed by Russian troops late in the evening on Friday, adding that it houses a tactical aviation command center responsible for anti-aircraft defenses. He also said there were about 100 Ukrainian soldiers posted inside the base.

America’s Staggering Hypocrisy in Ukraine

America’s Staggering Hypocrisy in Ukraine (Common Dreams, March 5, 2014):

ince World War II – and extending well into the Twenty-first Century – the United States has invaded or otherwise intervened in so many countries that it would be challenging to compile a complete list. Just last decade, there were full-scale U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, plus American bombing operations from Pakistan to Yemen to Libya.

So, what is one to make of Secretary of State John Kerry’s pronouncement that Russia’s military intervention in the Crimea section of Ukraine – at the behest of the country’s deposed president – is a violation of international law that the United States would never countenance?

Russia Threatens Retaliation To Sanctions, Announces Support For Crimean Referendum

Russia Threatens Retaliation To Sanctions, Announces Support For Crimean Referendum (ZeroHedge, March 7, 2014):

It appears Obama’s latest “one hour” conversation with Putin has just made things downshift from bad to worse.

Moments ago Russia accused the European Union of taking an “extremely unconstructive position” by freezing talks on easing visa barriers that complicate travel between Russia and the EU over Ukraine.

Russia will not accept the language of sanctions and threats and will retaliate if sanctions are imposed, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement about agreements reached at an emergency EU summit on Thursday.

And assuring that the imminent Crimean referendum due in just over a week will rapidly deteriorate the current detente was overnight news that Russia’s upper house of parliament will support Crimea in its bid to join the Russian Federation, the speaker of the upper house of parliament said Friday. If the people of Crimea decide to join Russia in the referendum, we, as the upper house, will certainly support this decision,” Valentina Matvienko said at a meeting with Vladimir Konstantinov, his counterpart in the Crimean parliament.

Crimea Parliament ‘Accelerates Crisis’, Votes To Join Russia

Crimea Parliament “Accelerates Crisis”, Votes To Join Russia (ZeroHedge, March 6, 2014):

While the world is convinced that Putin’s Tuesday press conference was an admission of blinking to the west, the reality is anything but that, and hours ago Crimea’s parliament voted to join Russia on Thursday and its Moscow-backed government set a referendum within 10 days on the decision in what Reuters said is a “a dramatic escalation of the crisis over the Ukrainian Black Sea peninsula.” To be sure, the Crimea – which has an ethnic Russian majority – affiliation to Moscow as opposed to Kiev is well-known, yet still the sudden acceleration of moves to bring Crimea formally under Moscow’s rule came as European Union leaders gathered for an emergency summit to seek ways to pressure Russia to back down and accept mediation. And now all Putin has to do is sit back and say the people have spoken and without spilling a drop of blood has effectively split the country in two parts, with the entire east of Ukraine, where pro-Russian sentiment also runs high – sure to follow Crimea. Just as we said from the very beginning.

From Reuters:

The Crimean parliament voted unanimously “to enter into the Russian Federation with the rights of a subject of the Russian Federation”. The vice premier of Crimea, home to Russia’s Black Sea military base in Sevastopol, said a referendum on the status would take place on March 16. The announcement, which diplomats said could not have been made without Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval, raised the stakes in the most serious east-west confrontation since the end of the Cold War.

Ukraine Acting President Loses It Over ‘Crime Against Nation’ Crimea Referendum

Russia Today Anchor Liz Wahl Quits Live On Air Over ‘Whitewashed’ Coverage Of Putin (Video)

Russia Today Anchor Quits Live On Air Over “Whitewashed” Coverage Of Putin (ZeroHedge, March 5, 2014):

Presented with little comment, suffice to add former Washington DC RT correspondent Liz Wahl’s comments that “personally she cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the action of Putin…”  At least RT was correct when it said yesterday that “Contrary to the popular opinion, RT doesn’t beat its journalists into submission, and they are free to express their own opinions, not just in private but on the air.”  One wonders if Ms. Wahl’s next stop will be MSNBC, FOX or CNN, where the truly unbiased coverage can be found.

Today’s drama takes to a entirely new level the statement voiced by another RT presenter who also denounced as “wrong” Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

“I can’t stress enough how strongly I am against any state intervention in a sovereign nation’s affairs,” Abby Martin declared in her news programme.

RT said it respected Ms Martin’s views, and that she would not be reprimanded.

What The US Media Won’t Tell You About Ukraine

What the US Media Won’t Tell You About Ukraine (Common Dreams, March 4, 2014):

As usual, America’s foreign correspondents are falling down on the job.

Stories devoid of historical context cast Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a naked act of neo-Soviet aggression. Considering that the relevant history begins a mere two decades ago, its omission is inexcusable.

The spark that led to the takeover of Crimea was not the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovich. It is what happened the day after.

Russia Has Longstanding 25,000 Troop Allowance In Crimea & Other Facts You May Not Know About

Russia’s 25,000-troop allowance & other facts you may not know about Crimea (RT, March 4, 2014):

Ukraine’s statement at the UN that ‘16,000 Russian soldiers had been deployed’ across Crimea sparked a MSM feeding frenzy that steadfastly ignored any hard facts that got in their way.

Especially unwelcome is the fact that the so-called ‘invasion force’ has been there for 15 years already.

The media many trust described in hysterical tones how the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was under a full-scale Russian invasion with headlines like: “Ukraine says Russia sent 16,000 troops to Crimea”, “Ukraine crisis deepens as Russia sends more troops into Crimea,” as well as “What can Obama do about Russia’s invasion of Crimea?”.

Facts, and ardent statements by top Russian diplomats were totally ignored by the western ‘war press’.

Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin pointed to the longstanding 25,000 troop allowance while FM Sergey Lavrov stressed the Russian military “strictly executes the agreements which stipulate the Russian fleet’s presence in Ukraine, and follows the stance and claims coming from the legitimate authority in Ukraine and in this case the legitimate authority of the Autonomous Republic Crimea as well.”

So here they are, the facts:
