In the German capital of Berlin a new report claims that the local government has registered around 100 child marriages and the trend shows little signs of slowing down, reports broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg.

NRD said there was no way knowing numbers precisely, but that they had come to their conclusions after interviewing social workers, activists, and employees in the asylum industry, as well as migration experts in a number of major German cities.

Experts at the universities of Tuebingen and Linz said 30 per cent of all new migrants could be working illegally, but activists and social workers in Lower Saxony and Berlin said the number could be as high as 50 per cent.

The parents of a special-needs student are suing the Anchorage, Alaska school district, arguing it waited too long to investigate a teacher’s aide over claims of sexual abuse. In a plea deal, the aide served 48 hours of community service.

Begich Middle School teacher’s aide Julianti Clarke, 62, was charged with abuse in October 2014, after surveillance video showed her fondling a disabled male student in the lunchroom. In November 2015, prosecutors agreed to a plea deal that would let Clarke serve 48 hours of community service and dropped the charges.

In a lawsuit filed this week in Anchorage Superior Court, the student’s parents argue that the school district edited the video to hide Clarke’s abuse of another student while their son watched. They say the district “negligently failed” to supervise Clarke and failed to protect students, asking for damages over $500,000 for “foreseeable severe emotional distress,” according to Alaska Dispatch News.

Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.

Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

The decision, described by the Royal College of Surgeons as the “most severe the modern NHS has ever seen”, led to warnings that other trusts will soon be forced to follow suit and rationing will become the norm if the current funding crisis continues.

Two incidents occurred on Saturday and Sunday at the Grugabad swimming pool, the largest outdoor pool in the city, reports Die Welt.

The first incident on Saturday occurred when two migrant men aged 20 and 24 approached two girls aged 12 and 13 in an attempt to sexually harass and abuse them. According to police the pair of adult migrants “approached the victims in a sexual manner” and claimed that a younger migrant, aged 13, was also involved in the incident.

Finland is about to launch an experiment in which a randomly selected group of 2,000–3,000 citizens already on unemployment benefits will begin to receive a monthly basic income of 560 euros (approx. $600). That basic income will replace their existing benefits. The amount is the same as the current guaranteed minimum level of Finnish social security support. The pilot study, running for two years in 2017-2018, aims to assess whether basic income can help reduce poverty, social exclusion, and bureaucracy, while increasing the employment rate.

The Finnish government introduced its legislative bill for the experiment on 25 August. Originally, the scope of the basic income experiment was much more ambitious. Many experts have criticized the government’s experiment for its small sample size and for the setup of the trial, which will be performed within just one experimental condition. This implies that the experiment can provide insights on only one issue, namely whether the removal of the disincentives embedded in social security will encourage those now unemployed to return to the workforce or not.

The number of migrant children who have gone missing in Germany has doubled since the start of the year according to a new report from the German federal police (BKA), reports Spiegel Online.

A total of 8,991 underage migrants have disappeared from asylum homes or residences where they were being looked after by social workers. Police also say that a number of the cases of missing children can be tied to organised criminal gangs, some of which may force the children into prostitution or drug running.
