Recently, a U.S. Census report confirmed something many millennials like me know all too well: As of 2015, one-third of 18- to 34-year-olds still lived at home—beating out all other living arrangements, including cohabitating with a partner or living alone, for the first time.

Older generations like to attribute this to laziness or entitlement, saying we lack ambition or are coddled by our parents—but that’s a clouded argument. There are some lazy kids in every generation, but a third of us? Sorry, but no.

As a millennial who’s in this category, I’m setting the record straight on the real reasons we’re still living at home.

Two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin formally expelled 755 American diplomats and announced plans to seize two compounds used by US State Department employees, US officials have started “removing furniture and equipment from the compounds”, according to Reuters.

The early start suggests that the US is making every effort to comply with Putin’s demand that the US reduce its 1,200 diplomatic personnel by 60% before Sept. 1, made in retaliation to a bill authorizing fresh sanctions against Russia that President Donald Trump is expected to sign. Late last year, the Obama administration expelled 35 Russian diplomats and seized two Russian diplomatic compounds near Washington, D.C. Putin refrained from responding at the time.

Construction is under way of the world’s deepest high-speed railway station, and it will be built underneath the Great Wall of China.

In preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics, China is building the line to connect the capital city of Beijing to the skiing town of Zhangjiakou, host cities for the games.

Engineers have designed a route that goes through the mountains, runs parallel to the Great Wall at times, and at the Badaling section of the wall, workers are building a massive underground station.

– Bloomberg confirms Jim Sinclair’s $50000 gold prediction if China backs currency with metals:

A few years ago, the well respected precious metal analyst Jim Sinclair issued a prediction that the price of gold could be valued as high as $50,000 per ounce should the markets be let loose and free to find true price discovery.  On May 27, that prediction was suddenly confirmed by Bloomberg who determined that if China were to back their currency with gold, the price would need to be valued 50 times higher than the current paper spot price set each day by the Comex and London.

In fact, if the current spot price of $1192 per ounce were increased by a factor of 50, the price of gold would not just be $50,000, but would be much higher and reside at around $60,000 per ounce in U.S. dollars and thus be able to facilitate China’s use of the metal for a gold backed currency.

From the outside looking in, it appears as if Netflix is absolutely killing it. From Orange is the New Black and House of Cards to Stranger Things and Fuller House, the streaming service has a collection of buzzy original series and revivals on top of its improving movie presence. As of right now, Netflix paces the entire streaming industry with a whopping 104 million worldwide subscribers, according to the company’s quarterly reports. But trouble may be brewing in paradise.

According to the LA Times, Netflix has accrued a long-term and short-term debt of $20.54 billion. Yes, that’s billion with a B. But investors don’t sound too worried, if the LA Times is to be believed.

An arch-conservative cardinal chosen by the Pope to deliver this year’s Lenten meditations to the Vatican hierarchy has caused consternation by giving warning of an Antichrist who is “a pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist”.

Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, 78, who retired as Archbishop of Bologna three years ago, quoted Vladimir Solovyov (1853-1900), the Russian philosopher and mystic, as predicting that the Antichrist “will convoke an ecumenical council and seek the consensus of all the Christian confessions”.

The “masses” would follow the Antichrist, “with the exception of small groups of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants” who would fight to prevent the watering down and ultimate destruction of the faith, he said.

Recently we learned that Erik Prince, founder of the security firm Blackwater Worldwide, and Steve Feinberg, financier, and owner of DynCorp International, a leading military logistics, and training contractor, approached the Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis, with their plan to use contractors instead of American troops to stabilize Afghanistan. The meeting was arranged at the behest of President Trump’s advisors who want to ensure their boss is apprised of the full range of options in Afghanistan.

The Secretary decided to stick with an in-house solution, that is to say, more of the same, for a war we are, in his words, “not winning.” Secretary Mattis is no enemy of contractors, but hopefully, he reflected on what Messrs. Prince and Feinberg said before he briefed President Trump last week on the way ahead in Afghanistan.

  • Muslim vigilantes enforcing Islamic justice have become increasingly common in Germany. The government’s inability or unwillingness to stop them has led to the rise of anti-Muslim counter-vigilantes. Germany’s BfV intelligence agency, in its latest annual report, warned that an escalating action-reaction cycle could result in open warfare on German streets.
  • The self-appointed “Sharia Police” urged both Muslim and non-Muslim passersby to attend mosques and to refrain from alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, gambling, music, pornography and prostitution. In November 2016, the Wuppertal District Court ruled that the Islamists did not break German law and were simply exercising their right to free speech. The ruling, which effectively legitimized Sharia law in Germany, was one of a growing number of instances in which German courts are — wittingly or unwittingly — promoting the establishment of a parallel Islamic legal system in the country.

German Muslims have established a self-styled biker gang — modelled on the Hells Angels — aimed at protecting fellow Muslims from the “ever-growing hatred of Islam,” according to Die Welt.

The emergence of the group, which aspires to open chapters in cities and towns across Germany, has alarmed German authorities, who have warned against the growing threat of vigilantism in the country.

Why is this so and who will come to dwell in these territories we have hitherto called — home?

It was expected to be a bad quarter for General Motors. It ended up being abysmal.

GM reported that July auto sales crashed by a whopping 15%, nearly double Wall Street’s already depressed expectations of a 8% drop, and with GM mothballing production across the country to catch up with lagging demand, it still sold only 226,107 vehicles as a result of double digits drops in Chevy, Build and Cadillac Sales of 15.3%, -30.5% and -21.7%, respectively. The only “good” performer was GMC, which dropped by “only” 7.3% Y/Y.
