Israeli plans to assassinate Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat included a plot to blow up passenger planes and football stadiums, according to an explosive new book by Israeli investigative journalist Ronen Bergman.

The extensive revelations are published in, ‘Rise and Kill First: The secret history of Israel’s targeted killings.’ The New York Times published an extract from the book on Tuesday.

According to Bergmen, when former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was defense minister, he ordered the Israeli army to shoot down a passenger plane Arafat was thought to be on. Arafat was chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization at the time. Although the plan was eventually called off, it was allegedly one of a list of plans to to assassinate the Palestinian leader.

Bergman spoke to hundreds of intelligence and defense officials and studied classified documents which have revealed a “hidden history, surprising even in the context of Israel’s already fierce reputation.”

“I found that since World War II, Israel has used assassination and targeted-killing more than any other country in the West, in many cases endangering the lives of civilians,” Bermen wrote in the NYT, pointing to the history of debate that takes place over these issues.

What really happened to Ariel Sharon?

Yesterday Israeli medical officials announced that 85 year old Sharon’s condition has deteriorated. According to the BBC, Professor Zeev Rotstein, of the Sheba Medical Centre near Tel Aviv, said on Friday: “Tests show a slow, gradual deterioration in the functioning of his vital organs… His state has not changed. He’s still in critical condition, and his life is in danger.”

Few are aware, however, that in the twilight of his public life, the former Israeli PM gave a speech which potentially could have changed the course of Israeli-Palestinian relations, but instead faded into the background of the political stalemate static indicative of negotiations which have achieved nothing since they began in earnest over 20 years ago.

In a Zionist context, to have Ariel Sharon – an aggressive operator and war hero, known to Arabs simply as “The Butcher”, say what he said – was almost unthinkable at the time:

“That we cannot continue holding under occupation… and it is occupation, you might not like this word, but it’s really an occupation – to hold 3.5 million Palestinians under occupation, is, in my opinion, a very bad thing. It cannot continue for ever. Do you want to remain, for ever, in Jenin, in Nablus, in Ramallah, in Bethlehem, for ever?”

Did Ariel Sharon have a political, or spiritual epiphany in his final consciousness days? His comments must have rocked the Zionist establishment at the time.

Aside from many delegates getting up and walking out of the press conference in open disgust, pay close attention to the angry expressions from Benjamin Netanyahu as Sharon effectively reverses 40 years of Israeli expansionist and ethnic cleansing policy in one swoop…

Note how hard-line Netanyahu assumed power over Israel policy soon after Sharon’s sudden, and massive stroke.

The irrational deep-seated hatred which the Anglo-American foreign policy establishment holds towards Iran is rooted in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which overthrew the Four Horsemen stooge Shah and nationalized Iran’s oil and banking industries.

The Eight Families banking cabal much preferred the mullahs to the leftists. By 1982 CIA and MI6 were passing targeting information to the Ayatollah aimed at Iranian leftist groups like the Tudeh Party, the National Front and the People’s Mujahadeen.

The mullahs unleashed a reign of terror, assassinating over 4,000 Tudeh Party leaders, while torturing and imprisoning over 10,000 Tudeh members and supporters.  In 1989 many of those imprisoned were sentenced to death. [412]

Khomeini banned Tudeh, terming them “Marxist satanic elements” – something even the Shah hadn’t done. The Tudeh Party spearheaded the Iranian Revolution through their Committee of 60 oilfield strikes in Khuzistan.  The party earlier ushered in Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh, whose attempts to wrest better terms from the Four Horsemen-controlled Iranian Consortium made him the target of a successful BP-financed coup in 1953.

The US was now once again helping Islamic extremists, this time to exterminate the Iranian left.  One US official assured reporters that the executions “would not hinder the warming of US/Iran relations”. [413]  Big Oil was dealing with the Ayatollah as well, secretly shipping Iranian crude to Saudi Arabia for refining.

The Israeli Mossad was walking the same high-wire in their country, where in 1978 it allowed the fundamentalist Hamas to become the only Palestinian group registered in Israel.  Within a decade Hamas leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin had built a powerful organization that ruled the Gaza Strip under Israeli watch.
