– Majority of Britons back PM May on launching nuke attack that would kill 100,000:

PM Theresa May was right to give an unequivocal “yes” according to 66 percent of Britons, when asked if she would personally launch a retaliatory nuclear strike that would kill 100,000 civilians, while 59 percent say they would push the button themselves.

The British Prime Minister May said she would use the UK’s nuclear arsenal in response to a nuclear attack by a foreign nation, as she was promoting the renewal of the Trident missile system in Parliament. She argued that threats to the UK from such countries as Russia and North Korea “remain very real.”

May’s attitude was overwhelmingly supported by two-thirds of Britons polled by YouGov on Tuesday and Wednesday. Only 19 percent said she was wrong to say what she did.

Sixty-six percent of respondents said they would support a nuclear retaliation while 59 percent said they would personally launch one, if they were in May’s position.

In one of the first high profile parliamentary debates since she took over the premiership last week, British PM Theresa May today insisted she would have no hesitation in ordering nuclear strikes abroad that would kill hundreds of thousands of civilians.

The somewhat blunt, somewhat genocidal answer appears to have been the right one for the crowd, as it wasn’t long thereafter that parliament agreed to spend upward of $40 billion modernizing their nuclear weapons arsenal. Many analysts have suggested that the $40 billion is a gross underestimate, and the nukes will end up costing far more.

The UK government has publicly admitted that parts of the Investigatory Powers Bill (IPB), better known as the ‘Snooper’s Charter’, would allow it to force companies to ban end-to-end encryption.

In what may be viewed as a huge assault on the public’s privacy, not to mention digital security, the government would ask internet and communication service providers to “develop and maintain a technical capability to remove encryption that has been applied to communications or data”. As one member of the House of Lords put it, when debating the IPB, this essentially means that companies may not use end-to-end encryption, and could leave the public at risk, not to mention setting a supremely dangerous precedent.

The UK government’s proposed surveillance legislation is “worse than scary”, the United Nations privacy chief has said.

Joseph Cannataci, the UN’s special rapporteur on privacy, attacked the government’s draft Investigatory Powers Bill, saying he had never seen evidence that mass surveillance works. He also accused MPs of leading an “absolute offensive” and an “orchestrated” media campaign to distort the debate and take hold of new powers.

The comments came during a live streamed keynote presentation at the Internet Governance Forum in Brazil, where leading experts from around the world have gathered to discuss the future of the internet and web policy.

    Sources told the Sun that Tracey had advised strategy on the protection of Royal palaces and other important public buildings, including Downing Street and nuclear sites.

    Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has opened the way for water cannon to be used on the British mainland for the first time if future demonstrations escalate into uncontrollable violence.

    Ministers will not stand in the way if senior officers wanted to use it, she said.

    And in the wake of last week’s shocking scenes in central London’s West End Mrs May warned that future demonstrations needed to be policed “robustly.”

    The sight of an out-of-control mob vandalising parts of Westminster has led to accusations that the Conservatives are weak on law-and-order.

    In the UK water cannon has only been deployed in Northern Ireland, at various points throughout the Troubles, and its use has been resisted until now by senior police officers elsewhere in Britain. However, it is widely used as a crowd control tactic abroad.
