Williams Lake Tribune columnist Diana French, Jan 13, 2015 (emphasis added): Out of sight is out of mind. Those of us living in the Interior might not know or care that sea creatures are sick, dying or disappearing at an alarming rate all along the Pacific coast. There are dying oysters, bleeding herring, melting star fish, hungry Orcas and sick seals. The latest are dead seabirds… Some blame ocean acidification for the devastation, others wonder if it’s radiation fallout from Fukushima. Whatever, it might be helpful to find the cause before all the creatures are gone.

Bees: How Their Deaths Are Linked To Pesticides According To A Harvard Study (Thought Pursuits, Jan 17, 2015):

The human race is beginning to realize that actions have consequences. One area that demonstrates this clearly is the effects of the huge amounts of pesticides humans spray on food and other crops. In many countries, particularly the United States, pesticides are used extensively on crops. Scientists have known for many years that spraying some pesticides onto food crops can cause some human health problems and they long thought that it may be related to a the huge numbers of bee deaths in recent years. There have been particular concerns over the neo-nicotinoid pesticides, which are in widespread use right across the world.

A recent Harvard University research study published in the Bulletin of Insectology confirms scientists’ worst fears about bees and neo-nicotinoid pesticides. It shows clearly that they are the cause of colony collapse disorder. The study’s results not only match the findings of a previous study but they also echo the conclusions of that study that bee exposure neonicotinoids, even in doses smaller than that necessary to kill them, is very likely the main cause of colony collapse disorder CCD. (Bulletin of Insectology)

Eric Holder Orders End to DOJ Program that Shares Seized Assets with Police

Eric Holder Orders End to DOJ Program that Shares Seized Assets with Police (Reason, Jan 16, 2015):

UPDATED: Read Holder’s memo here. The order also excludes joint task forces, which limits some of the potential impact.

Big, huge news on the civil asset forfeiture front: Eric Holder is ordering an end to most of the Department of Justice’s Equitable Sharing Program. This is the program where the DOJ works with local law enforcement agencies for busts, and then the law enforcement agencies are permitted to keep 80 percent of the assets seized. It has been an incubator of the worst police abuses, as some agencies looked for any possible reason to take people’s property without ever actually accusing them with a crime.

The Washington Post has the scoop:

The ECB Will Fail Given The “History Lessons Of US And Japan”, Warns Deutsche Bank

From the article:

“And we are also finally glad that with every passing day more and more banks, pundits and “straight to CNBC” experts wearing business suits realize what we said 6 years ago, namely that QE will never work as one can’t fix a failed financial system due to record debt problem with more debt and even more props to support an even more failed financial system. And that QE has, is, and will continue failing… for everyone but the 1% of course, who with every passing day continue to tempt not only fate but the guillotines as well. Reference? See the French Revolution, because it is never different this time.”

Mario-Draghi-Just-Evil

The ECB Will Fail Given The “History Lessons Of US And Japan”, Warns Deutsche Bank (ZeroHedge, Jan 18, 2015):

Recall that the stated purpose behind the reason why Mario Draghi’s ECB is about to launch a European government debt monetization program ranging between EUR500 and 1000 billion is to halt deflation, spark credit creation and rekindle inflation. Alas, if that is indeed the case, then as Deutsche Bank said has already determined apriori, it will be a failure. Here’s why from the biggest German bank.

First, a broad strokes preview of what the world’s most confused Central bank will do this week:

The Mysterious Sponsor Behind The Ferguson Protests And Media Campaign: George Soros

Divide et impera, entertainment and diversion from current (much more important) events.

Will the people ever learn?

george-soros

The Mysterious Sponsor Behind The Ferguson Protests And Media Campaign: George Soros (ZeroHedge, Jan 17, 2015):

In an apparent effort to “keep the media’s attention on the city and to widen the scope of the incident to focus on interrelated causes — not just the overpolicing and racial discrimination narratives that were highlighted by the news media in August,” liberal billionaire George Soros donated $33million to social justice organizations which helped turn events in Ferguson from a local protest into a national flashpoint.

As The Washington Times explains,

There’s a solitary man at the financial center of the Ferguson protest movement. No, it’s not victim Michael Brown or Officer Darren Wilson. It’s not even the Rev. Al Sharpton, despite his ubiquitous campaign on TV and the streets.

What can you say?

Report: “Russian Invasion Survival Manual” To Be Issued To Citizens In European Union (SHFTplan, Jan 16, 2015):

While most Americans discount the possibility of a major conflict with Russia, Europeans who have seen two great wars in the last century know better.

The country of Lithuania, much like its neighbors, is preparing for a full-out invasion by Russian forces and their government is issuing a survival manual to its citizens. Though the complete details have yet to be released, the manual, among other things, advises citizens to “keep a sound mind, don’t panic and don’t lose clear thinking.

Native Hawaiians Debate Best For Path To Sovereignty

Somebody tell them to start a debate about the effects of Fukushima…

Native Hawaiians debate best for path to sovereignty (AP, Jan 16, 2015):

WAIMANOLO, Hawaii (AP) – Native Hawaiians could be in line for federal recognition similar to many American Indian tribes. But the issue is inflaming distrust between moderates who support the idea and others who want to see the Hawaiian Kingdom restored.

Before Hawaii became a tourist mecca, the islands were ruled by royal families. The kingdom was overthrown by a group of American businessmen in 1893.

It shows not just the damage to the buildings and planes housed there, but also the scars of months of battles, including ruined amoured vehicles.

Everest Macro Hedge Fund Blows Up After Nearly $1 BIllion In Swiss Franc Losses

Everest Macro Hedge Fund Blows Up After Nearly $1 BIllion In Swiss Franc Losses (ZeroHedge, Jan 17, 2015):

Yesterday, when we got the first news of huge P&L losses at various publicly-traded banks not to mention the collapse of several retail brokers culminating with the bailout of FXCM by Jefferies, we reminded that seconds after the SNB shocker, we tweeted what was quite obvious to anyone who realized that speculators were most short the CHF since the summer of 2013:

We also added that “We have yet to find out just which hedge funds were blown up yesterday”, for the simple reason that unlike public banks who have an obligation to reveal news, especially bad, to their shareholders, hedge funds PMs hope to avoid the LP firing squad until the last second. Alas, there is only so long that the day of reckoning can be delayed.

Human Rights Watch urges Kiev to acknowledge cluster bomb use, stop indiscriminate killings in E. Ukraine

HRW urges Kiev to acknowledge cluster bomb use, stop indiscriminate killings in E. Ukraine (RT, Jan 17, 2015):

Kiev should stop the Indiscriminate warfare in southeast Ukraine, Human Rights Watch chief Kenneth Roth said, commenting on recent statements by the country’s PM, Arseny Yatsenyuk.

During his visit to Germany earlier in January, Yatsenyuk was questioned by Frankfurter Allgemeine on the cluster bombs and Grad multiple rocket launchers against town and villages in southeast Ukraine.

But the prime minister rejected the allegation, saying that “there is no evidence to that. No evidence,” and suggested that more attention should be paid to the Republic of Crimea, which reunited with Russia in March 2014.

Now We Know The Plan: More Surveillance And A Patriot Act For Europe

The Truth Behind The Cherlie Hebdo Solidarity Photo-Op

Now We Know The Plan: More Surveillance and a Patriot Act For Europe (SHFTplan, Jan 15, 2015):

The irony is almost worse than 9/11.

Then, President Bush responded by stating, with bravado, that they attacked us because they hate our freedoms.

This time, the attack against the publication of satirical Mohammed cartoon, was not only an act of terrorism, but an attack on the spirit of free speech.

And the government response this time? After staging a photo op of world leaders, various heads of state have proposed new waves of surveillance and repressive attempts to ban encryption and violate the freedom of speech in communication devices through new spy policies and laws.

On Sunday, as more than 3 million people flooded the streets of Paris in support of the free speech principles that Charlie Hebdo embodied, a group of 12 European ministers issued a joint statement calling for internet service providers to more swiftly report and remove online material “that aims to incite hatred and terror.”

Establishing a framework to enhance police work and intelligence sharing concerning the actions of alleged terrorists and extremists, the joint statement from 12 European ministers and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder declares the intent to: “counter violent extremism” and “fight against radicalization, notably on the Internet,” in part through the “swift reporting [and removal] of material that aims to incite hatred and terror.” Meanwhile, it aims to beef European border control, “step up the detection and screening of travel movements” and enhance law enforcement, particularly in “working to reduce the supply of illegal firearms throughout Europe.”

Welcome to the Oligarch Recovery – Majority of Public School Students are in Poverty for First Time in 50 Years (Liberty Blitzkrieg, Jan 17, 2015):

“When they first come in my door in the morning, the first thing I do is an inventory of immediate needs: Did you eat? Are you clean? A big part of my job is making them feel safe,” said Sonya Romero-Smith, a veteran teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary School in Albuquerque. Fourteen of her 18 kindergartners are eligible for free lunches.

She helps them clean up with bathroom wipes and toothbrushes, and she stocks a drawer with clean socks, underwear, pants and shoes.

From the Washington Post article: Majority of U.S. Public School Students are in Poverty

It’s a recovery so lopsided only Timothy Geithner or an oligarch could love it. Since 2008, U.S. economic policy has concentrated on funneling as much money as possible to billionaires, keeping the poor alive and submissive through government programs, and squeezing the middle class to death while at the same time holding out the carrot of hope that things will return to how they were before (they won’t).

The latest evidence of this monumental cultural theft was highlighted yesterday in the Washington Post. Here are a few excerpts:

DEA admits to collecting phone records of Americans

DEA admits to collecting phone records of Americans (RT, Jan 17, 2015):

Yet another federal agency of the United States government maintained a database of phone records pertaining to Americans who were not necessarily suspected of any wrongdoing, the Justice Department has admitted.

In addition to the database of telephony metadata maintained by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and revealed to the world through classified documents via former government contractor Edward Snowden, a Justice Department official acknowledged in a court filing this week that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) operated a similar system for roughly a decade.

The admission was made on Thursday by way of an official declaration entered in federal court by Robert Patterson, an assistant special agent in charge at the DEA, concerning a previous Department of Homeland Security investigation that helped authorities narrow in on a suspect charged with violating the trade embargo between the US and Iran.

The SNB’s Wake-Up Call: Keynesian Central Banking Is Destroying Money And Markets (David Stockman’s Contra Corner, Jan 17, 2015):

It seems everyone was short the franc (CHF) as a matter of taking monetarism at face value. In other words, it amounted to believing the central party line about the economy and normalcy despite the fact that markets have been increasingly pessimistic about it all and actively and aggressively betting against it. Goldman Sachs is just one of many:

U.S. Suburbs As Poverty Traps: So The American Dream Fizzles (ALT-MARKET, Jan 13, 2015):

This article was originally published at The Daily Bell

The Atlantic Suburbs and the New American Poverty … More people with low incomes now live outside of cities, and some areas are ill-equipped to deal with the influx of the poor … Between 2000 and 2011, Atlanta’s suburban poor population grew by 159 percent. But the suburbs of Atlanta no longer hold just the promise of good schools, clean streets, and whitewashed homes with manicured lawns proudly displaying American flags. They are increasingly home to the very poor, who find themselves stranded in suburbs without the kind of transit or assistance that they might once have found in cities’ urban cores. – The Atlantic

Dominant Social Theme:

The suburbs need to be spruced up. It will happen.

Free-Market Analysis:

Nowhere is the foundering of the American Dream more evident than in many US suburbs. Suburbs used to lie at the confident beating heart of the American Experience. Now they are prostrate baggage of an ill-conceived social experiment.

The Truth Behind The ‘Cherlie Hebdo’ Solidarity Photo-Op (ZeroHedge, Jan 17, 2015):

Once again the mainstream media peddled the spoon-fed propaganda that world leaders “led the march” to honor the victims of the Paris shootings last week. Glorious photo-ops of Merkel, Hollande, Poroshenko, David Cameron (oh, and not Barack Obama) were smeared across front pages hailing the “unity in outrage.” However, as appears to be the case in so many ‘events’ in the new normal managed thinking in which we live, The Independent reports, French TV has exposed the reality of the ‘photo-op’ seen-around-the-world: the ‘dignitaries’ were not in fact “at” the Paris rallies but had the photo taken on an empty guarded side street

Russia’s Modest Proposal To Greece: “Exit Europe And We Will Lift The Food Import Ban”

Russia’s Modest Proposal To Greece: “Exit Europe And We Will Lift The Food Import Ban” (ZeroHedge, Jan 17, 2015):

It has not been a good week for Greece: first we learned that its treasury has run dry as Greece have stop paying all taxes ahead of the elections (and likely after), making further reforms virtually impossible as the government simply does not have the cash to promote economic changes; then we found out that first two then all four of the largest Greek banks have submitted Emergency Liquidity Assistance requests to the ECB to preserve liquidity in light of a deposit run that is picking up pace. And yesterday, adding insult to injury, Spiegel leaked that while seeking preapproval from Merkel for his QE program to be announced next week, Draghi told the Germans that Greek bonds won’t be among the securities monetized by the ECB.

Government data reports are so funny. The blaring headlines today tells us that prices dropped in December. We are all saving billions from the drop in oil and gas. Hallelujah!!!

The corporate MSM never digs into the numbers to get the real truth. These reports and their distribution to the sheep are designed to keep you sedated and calm. Facts are not necessary. How this data pertains to your everyday life is not important to the .1% who control the flow of information.

Here is a link to the detailed inflation numbers by category. We already know they massage these numbers to achieve a happy ending, but even the massaged numbers tell an entirely different story than the one peddled to the masses by the government and corporate media.
