The irony is almost worse than 9/11.

Then, President Bush responded by stating, with bravado, that they attacked us because they hate our freedoms.

This time, the attack against the publication of satirical Mohammed cartoon, was not only an act of terrorism, but an attack on the spirit of free speech.

And the government response this time? After staging a photo op of world leaders, various heads of state have proposed new waves of surveillance and repressive attempts to ban encryption and violate the freedom of speech in communication devices through new spy policies and laws.

On Sunday, as more than 3 million people flooded the streets of Paris in support of the free speech principles that Charlie Hebdo embodied, a group of 12 European ministers issued a joint statement calling for internet service providers to more swiftly report and remove online material “that aims to incite hatred and terror.”

Establishing a framework to enhance police work and intelligence sharing concerning the actions of alleged terrorists and extremists, the joint statement from 12 European ministers and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder declares the intent to: “counter violent extremism” and “fight against radicalization, notably on the Internet,” in part through the “swift reporting [and removal] of material that aims to incite hatred and terror.” Meanwhile, it aims to beef European border control, “step up the detection and screening of travel movements” and enhance law enforcement, particularly in “working to reduce the supply of illegal firearms throughout Europe.”

Not only does the “war on terror” represent big business for shady crony capitalists, it gives politicians, i.e., professional authoritarians, an excuse to destroy civil liberties and implement a total surveillance system to ensure the plebs don’t get out of line. This is not just an unfortunate trend that has developed organically due to a dangerous world, these are the goals of the oligarch class and they will do whatever it takes to achieve them.

This is where the “war on terror” and constant fear-mongering comes into play. There’s only one small problem. It’s one thing for an 80 year old to nostalgically lament that things aren’t as they used to be. The problem is, I’m only 36 years old and this country already barely resembles the place I grew up in.

I’ve mentioned in the past how I used to ride the New York City public bus to and from school by myself starting when I was around 9 or 10 years old. Many of my peers started taking the then dreaded subway by themselves around the same time. Bear in mind, this was NYC in the 1980’s, a far different place than the Disneyland for Wall Street it has become since. I can’t recall a single child abduction happening to anyone at my school, but what I can remember was a teacher being fired for molesting young boys. Makes you wonder about where the real danger lurks, doesn’t it?

A founder of Charlie Hebdo has condemned the murdered editor Stephane Charbonnier of “dragging the team” to their deaths by overdoing the satirical magazine’s provocative cartoons.

Henri Roussel, 80, who participated in 1970 in the creation of the first issue of Charlie Hebdo (then called ‘Hara-Kiri-Hebdo’), addressed Charbonnier posthumously with the words, “I really hold it against you,” in a column in the left-wing magazine Nouvel Obs.

Roussel, who writes under the pen name Delfeil de Ton, said that Charbonnier was an “amazing lad,” but also an obstinate “blockhead.”

“What made him feel the need to drag the team into overdoing it?” he asked, referring to the 2011 Mohammed cartoons.

The cover of the magazine in 2011 showed a drawing of the Prophet Mohammed, along with the words, “100 lashes of the whip if you don’t die laughing!” under a banner saying, “Charia Hebdo.”

The Boston Marathon second bomb, which Dzhokhar Tsaranev is accused of placing WAS BLACK WITH SIDE STRAPS — Dzhokhar’s backpace was WHITE. The Special Task Force (Richard DesLauriers agent in charge) claims they fingered Dzhokhar on the basis of a video showing him drop his backpack near the explosion. But the their photo and DesLauriers own statements establish that the backpack was black. Dzhokhar is innocent.

Note that the video showing him dropping his backpack was never shown — and all of those who have described it on the media only know about it from briefings they received — which they do not make clear in some of the media interviews. The lawyer appointed to represent Dzhokhar Tsaranev, Judy Clark, is hiding from the public, is not answering questions — and has shielded herself from citizens seeking to present the backpack proof of innocence. Judy Clark is convinced of Dzhokhar’s guilt and views it as her mission to argue for a life sentence rather than the death penalty. Dzhokhar is kept from the public — we cannot get this information to him — he probably has no idea that the bomb backpack was black. Obviously the appointed public defender was appointed because she will not fight to establish Tsaranev’s innocence which I have done so simply in this video. — Dick Eastman

Were ‘special operatives’ carrying the bomb at the Boston Marathon?

In several photographs a man in a special outfit is photographed with a black backpack (and a white square logo). This is ‘the’, or similar, backpack that the FBI claims to have carried the bomb. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, though, was clearly photographed carrying a small grey-white pack. He is also photographed leaving the area, and as some commentators claim, still carrying his backpack (a detailed report here from informationclearinghouse). It appears also that his defense lawyer is not interested in sourcing this evidence for his defense.

It is a real concern when the justice system can no longer be considered ‘just’ or trustworthy. If so, then we are already living in a form of Tyranny.

POST FALLS — Prosecutors in Post Falls, Idaho had police arrest a 9-year-old-boy who failed to appear in court to answer charges he stole a pack of gum.

Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh said he now regrets that his office sought the arrest warrant. The boy was arrested and released Jan. 9.

“After reviewing the file today, I have concluded that my office’s request to have an arrest warrant issued was a mistake under the circumstances,” McHugh said, referring to a statement his office issued Monday. “I regret this having taken place and will do everything in my power to avoid this type of mistake in the future.”

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Arman Peterson is being fined $14,400 by Salt Lake City for having two cars parked in his driveway that were unlicensed or not operable. The cars, a ’74 Ford van and a ’65 Volvo sedan were parked on his driveway at his triplex at 44 W. 500 North. He was looking for a replacement carburetor for the van and the Volvo was running. But neither was licensed. He plans on appealing the fines and is irked that he could be subject to such penalities for what he parks in his own private drive.

The crime: Resident parked an unlicensed vehicle in his own private driveway.

A senior French police officer investigating the Charlie Hebdo magazine massacre killed himself just hours after the horrific terror attack.

His body was found by a colleague at 1am on Thursday, hours after the terror attack at the satirical magazine’s office which left 12 people dead.

It has been reported that shortly before committing suicide Commissioner Fredou had met with the family of one of the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack massacre.

Over the last five years Texas’ Child Protective Services underreported 655 deaths of children from abuse or neglect by their parents, said the Austin American-Statesman. Caseworkers used loopholes to omit cases of indirect maltreatment.

In an investigative report published on Sunday, Austin American-Statesman claims that practically half of the underreported deaths happened in problem families, which had frequently been investigated for child abuse.
