The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either. – Benjamin Franklin
– Romanian Hacker Who Exposed Hillary’s Private Email Server Sentenced To 52 Months:
The infamous Romanian hacker Marcel Lazar, better known by his nickname “Guccifer” and best known for helping expose the existence of the private email domain Hillary Clinton used when she was U.S. secretary of state was sentenced on Thursday to 52 months in prison by a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. Lazar had pleaded guilty in May to charges including unauthorized access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft after being extradited from Romania.
In an NBC interview in May, Guccifer claimed that he also gained access to the former Secretary of State’s “completely unsecured” server. “It was like an open orchid on the Internet,” Lazar told NBC News. “There were hundreds of folders.” What is curious is that according to Reuters, law enforcement and national security officials said that claim is meritless. Of course, the question arises: just how diligently did national security officials probe Guccifer’s claim: the reason to be skeptical is that if this allegation was confirmed, then the FBI’s entire case against Clinton would collapse, as it would be proven that her server was indeed hacked, something the FBI said there was no evidence ever happened, and lead to renewed questioning about the impartiality of the FBI’s probe.

– Nigel Farage Warns “The Establishment Is Losing Control Over The People”:
“The Empire is befuddled,” at Brexit, exclaims Nigel Farage, telling Alex Jones that globalist establishment is clueless on how to regain control. In a wonderfully frank interview, Farage explained that the establishment’s “problem is that it’s fighting this argument on several fronts at once.”
“We’ve got the American elections going on, we’ve got a big referendum coming up in Hungary on migrant quotas from Germany, we’ve got a rerun of the Austrian presidency where the right-wing candidate was cheated by false votes,” Farage said. “So they’ve got a real problem, they’re fighting us now on a whole series of fronts.”
“What will they do to fight back? I don’t know the answer to that yet, and you know something? Nor do they.”

Setting the mood ahead of tomorrow’s “critical” for the Fed’s September rate hike decision payrolls report, moments ago, WSJ reported that Wal-Mart Stores plans to cut 7,000 back office positions around the country, a restructuring move that in addition to seeking to improve its efficiency, will drastically alter the layout of its workforce, which as recently as a year ago was delighted by WMT’s minimum wage price hikes.
WSJ reports that the country’s largest private employer is eliminating about 7,000 U.S. store accounting and invoicing positions over the next several months, jobs mostly held by long-term employees, often some of the highest paid hourly workers in stores. The retailer wants those employees working with shoppers, not in backrooms, say company executives. Centralizing or automating much of those tasks is more efficient, they say.
– Deutsche Bank Refuses Delivery Of Physical Gold Upon Demand:
While the trading world was focused on the latest news involving Deutsche Bank, namely that the troubled German bank had been contemplating a merger with Germany’s other mega-bank, Commerzbank as part of a strategy to sell all or part of a key business to speed up its flagging overhaul, a more troubling report emerged in a German gold analysis website, according to which Deutsche Bank was unable to satisfy a gold delivery request when asked to do so by a client of Germany’s Xetra-Gold service.
But first, what is Xetra-Gold?
According to its website, the publicly traded company “provides investors with an efficient instrument to participate in the performance of the gold market. Xetra-Gold’s combination of features – cost-efficient trading and the right for physical delivery of gold – makes it an attractive product.”
Among its highlights, Xetra-Gold lists the following:

Just hours after delivering subdued comments and striking a conciliatory tone alongside Mexico’s president, Donald Trump returned to form in his fiery immigration speech (full text here) in Phoenix last night, which laid out the presidential candidate’s immigration plan which definitively ruled out legal status for undocumented immigrants and once again promised to build a wall on the southern border of the U.S., saying he would force Mexico to cover the cost. “We will build a great wall,” Trump said to loud cheers “And Mexico will pay for the wall. One hundred percent. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for it.”

The rally was at a convention center in downtown Phoenix. Trump’s warm-up speakers including Arizona Governor Doug Ducey; Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of an Arizona county who has become a symbol of the anti-illegal-immigration movement; former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani; and Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence. At various points in the speech, the crowd broke into chants of “build the wall!”

– We’ve Reached the “Zero Point” of Debt Creation:
Forty-five years and counting: We’ve been on a debt spree since the early 1970s when we went off the gold standard, covering every possible angle. Trade deficits, government deficits, unfunded entitlements, private debt – you name it! Our total debt has grown 2.5-times GDP since 1971.
How could economists not see this as a problem? How is this the least bit sustainable?
It isn’t. We’re hurtling toward a massive financial crisis, and all we have to show for it are financial asset bubbles destined to burst. And when they do, they’ll wipe out the artificial wealth they’ve created for many decades… in just a few years, as they did from late 1929 into late 1932!
The chart below shows the common-sense truth.

– The Unbearable Killing of Yellowstone’s Grizzlies: 2015 Shatters Records for Bear Deaths:
Today, thousands of people are gathered in Yellowstone to celebrate the centennial birthday of the National Parks, which many say is perhaps the best idea that America has ever had. But no one is in Gardiner, Montana, today to mourn the dead. And indeed, most do not know of the catastrophe that hit the grizzly bear, one of the Park’s most beloved icons, in 2015, when 85 bears died out a population of perhaps 717 animals.
Last week, government data was released showing that bear deaths during 2015 shattered previous records, and that thresholds for allowable female deaths were exceeded by a large margin (link). The death toll of 85 grizzlies is not an anomaly, but rather the most recent manifestation of a decade of unsustainable high grizzly bear mortality.

Man-made climate change is not open for debate.

Facebook’s habit of censoring great art has gone from the silly to the utterly surreal after it claimed that a drawing of a hand by Holbein breached its community standards.

– How 16 ships create as much pollution as all the cars in the world:
Last week it was revealed that 54 oil tankers are anchored off the coast of Britain, refusing to unload their fuel until prices have risen.
But that is not the only scandal in the shipping world. Today award-winning science writer Fred Pearce – environmental consultant to New Scientist and author of Confessions Of An Eco Sinner – reveals that the super-ships that keep the West in everything from Christmas gifts to computers pump out killer chemicals linked to thousands of deaths because of the filthy fuel they use.
We’ve all noticed it. The filthy black smoke kicked out by funnels on cross-Channel ferries, cruise liners, container ships, oil tankers and even tugboats.
