A manhunt is underway for a chainsaw-wielding assailant who wounded five people, two seriously, in a violent attack on Monday in a small Swiss town that was put into lockdown.

Police said the attack was “not an act of terror” according to Reuters. Authorities said they had identified the attacker, but did not name him, describing him in a statement appealing for help from the public as bald, unkempt and around 190 cm (six feet three inches) tall, and is believed to be driving a white Volkswagen Caddy.

Credit Suisse has confirmed that the Swiss bank, some of its employees and hundreds of account holders are the subjects of a major tax evasion probe launched in UK, France, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands, setting back Swiss attempts to clean up its image as a haven for tax evaders.

According to Bloomberg, Dutch investigators seized jewellery, paintings and even gold bars as part of a sweeping investigation into tax evasion and money laundering in the Netherlands. They added that the sums involved amounted to “many millions” of lost tax revenue.

The young imam, who had come from Ethiopia, had been in Switzerland for only a short time. The Zurich Federation of Islamic Organizations (Vioz) declared it was “shocked”, and suspended the an’Nur mosque from the federation until further notice: “We are shocked that an imam in one of our houses of prayer called for violence.”

Ex-Gambian Interior Minister Ousman Sonko, who migrated to Switzerland as an asylum seeker, will be investigated and may face criminal charges for his past actions in Gambia.

The Bern General Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday evening that a criminal case against the former Gambian Interior Minister would be opened and an investigation would begin. Mr. Sonko arrived in Switzerland to claim asylum in November 2016 and has been living in asylum homes since then, Neue Zürcher Zeitung reports.

s has been previously reported, Davos attendees this week are grappling with a lot of guilt over the possibility that their rah-rah, neoliberal capitalist vision may have had something to do with skyrocketing inequality, the rise of populism, Brexit, and most worryingly, the presidency of Donald J. Trump. When they’re not attending panels for the World Economic Forum’s annual get-together in the Swiss Alps, or enjoying its notorious after-hours party scene, the world’s richest and most powerful people are doing a lot of soul-searching—including, it appears, trying to experience how the other half lives by pretending to be refugees in an elaborate game of role-play:

Most of the events center on talking. But beyond lectures and panel discussions, the agenda also features more esoteric attractions. One notable event is a simulation of a refugee’s experience, where Davos attendees crawl on their hands and knees and pretend to flee from advancing armies.

It is one of the most popular events every year.

A policeman in Switzerland is appealing a conviction on bribery charges after it was revealed he had traded a residency permit for sexual favours from a male Iraqi asylum seeker.

The incident occurred in 2010 and has only recently come to court after the 63-year-old former policeman had left the police force, reports Swiss paper Blick.

According to the prosecution, the police officer forced the migrant to engage in oral sex on three separate occasions in a car and at the home of the former officer. The Iraqi had been in Switzerland since 2006 and by 2010 he was facing deportation.

While subtle, the general public loss of faith in central banking has been obvious to anyone who has simply kept their eyes open: it started in Japan where in February hardware stores were reported that consumers were hoarding cash, as confirmed by the spike in demand for safes, “a place where the interest rate on cash is always zero, no matter what the central bank does.” Then, as we reported just over a week ago, Burg-Waechter KG, Germany’s biggest safe manufacturer, posted a 25% jump in sales of home safes as a result of “significantly higher demand for safes by private individuals, mainly in Germany.”

Rivals Format Tresorbau GmbH and Hartmann Tresore AG also reported double-digit-percentage German sales increases. “Safe manufacturers are operating near their limits,” said Thies Hartmann, managing director of Hamburger Stahltresor GmbH, a family-owned safe retailer in Hamburg, which he says has grown 25% since 2014. He said deliveries take longer from safe makers, some of which are running three production shifts.

The whereabouts of around 40 per cent of all the migrants telling Swiss authorities they intended to claim asylum in the country are completely unknown, authorities have confirmed.

In some centres, up to 90 per cent of the new arrivals lied, absconded or ran away – internal document from the Federal Migration Office, uncovered by Sonntags Zeitung, revealed over the weekend.

In the northeast canton – or administrative division – of Thurgau, the papers suggested that between 80 and 90 per cent of the migrants were disappearing. In Altstätten in the Rhine Valley, it was around 50 per cent.
