How Much Does It Cost America To Blow Up American Weapons?

How Much Does It Cost America To Blow Up American Weapons? (ZeroHedge, Aug 19, 2014):

As many have observed since Obama launched his own personal Iraq war, there is something rather farcical about the latest US intervention in the middile east, namely that US weapons are being used to destroy US weapons, captured by and in possession of ISIS jihadists. As Reuters summarizes the situation, rather poetically, “Islamic State’s  captured an enormous amount of U.S. weaponry, originally intended for the rebuilt Iraqi Army. You know — the one that collapsed in terror in front of the Islamic State, back when they were just ISIL? The ones who dropped their uniforms, and rifles and ran away? They left behind the bigger equipment, too, including M1 Abrams tanks (about $6 million each), 52 M198 Howitzer cannons ($527,337), and MRAPs (about $1 million) similar to the ones in use in Ferguson.”

In other words US taxpayers are now paying for military missions, in which US taxpayer paid-for warplans and missiles are used to blow up other US taxpayer paid-for tanks, artillery, MRAPs, and various other weapons of death.

Wall Street banks ‘may desert UK for Ireland’ if Britain leaves EU

Wall Street banks ‘may desert UK for Ireland’ if Britain leaves EU (RT, Aug 19, 2014):

Wall Street banks could abandon Britain for the Republic of Ireland if the UK decides to leave the EU, senior figures in the industry have reportedly said. This is despite a Forbes report that names London the world’s ‘most influential city’.

Changes to EU banking rules could see London stripped of its financial preeminence. Some major institutions including Bank of America, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley are believed to be drawing up plans to desert the City amid concerns the UK is drifting further from the EU.

This is despite a Forbes list of “The World’s Most Influential Cities 2014” which ranked London as the most influential city in the world, because it attracts more than double the amount of foreign direct investment deals than New York, which came in second.

Putin Considers Banning Jack Daniel’s (ZeroHedge, Aug 19, 2014):

We knew the blowback from western sanctions against Russia would get serious – and Europe is already finding that out the hard way – but Vladmimir Putin appears to have gone ‘cruel-and-unusual’ in his latest step. As ITAR-TASS reports, Russian consumer-protection agency Rospotrebnadzor will decide in next few days whether to seize Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and Honey Liqueur after ‘reportedly’ finding “suspicious” chemicals in batch of flavored whiskey on sale in Sverdlovsk stores. Luckily Jack Lew has told us this will not impact the US economy (unless of course, you are Jack Daniels).

Most Russians want their country to dominate the globe – poll (RT, May 29, 2014):

The majority of Russians think their country should return to superpower status or at least become a regional leader, a new public opinion poll has shown.

The poll was conducted in mid-April 2014.

National Guard Sent To Ferguson After Night Of “Molotov Cocktails, Shootings, Looting And Vandalism”

A protester kicks a tear gas canister back towards police after protests in reaction to the shooting of Michael Brown turned violent near Ferguson, Missouri

National Guard Sent To Ferguson After Night Of “Molotov Cocktails, Shootings, Looting And Vandalism “ (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

After three consecutive days of rioting and looting in Ferguson, MO, despite a second night of curfews which was honored by few if any, Missouri’s governor said on Monday he would send the National Guard into the violent suburb to “restore calm” after authorities forcibly dispersed yet another crowd overnight.  Gov. Jay Nixon signed an executive order deploying the U.S. state militia, saying demonstrators had thrown Molotov cocktails and shot at police as well as a civilian, a description of the night’s events diverging widely from some eyewitness accounts. State Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson told a late night news briefing: “Molotov cocktails were thrown, there were shootings, looting, vandalism and other acts of violence that clearly appear not to have been spontaneous.

Ferguson Curfew Cancelled As National Guard Arrives; Holder Demands To “Remove The Damn Tanks” (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

The Missouri Governor Jay Nixon gave “no heads up” to the White House before deploying The National Guard and has now made another abrupt decision as The National Guard closes in on Ferguson:

  • *NIXON’S CALL TO HALT CURFEW TONIGHT MADE IN E-MAILED STATEMENT

We presume when there are military tanks rolling through the streets of a town, there is no need for the actual implementation of a curfew… This once again rubs the administration’s nose in it as AG Holder’s comments from last week hang in the air: “get those damned tanks out of there.”

The neighborhood has been under a midnight-to-5 a.m. curfew the past two days, after Nixon declared a state of emergency. That has now changed…

NATO Admits Putin Holds ‘Short-Term Cards’, But ‘Won’t Be Around Forever’

NATO Admits Putin Holds “Short-Term Cards”, But “Won’t Be Around Forever” (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

Following a summit in Brussels, a senior NATO diplomat proudly proclaimed that ‘allies’ have pledged more spending and will beef up its presence in Eastern Europe. However, likely to the chagrin of President Obama (and the West’s narrative), he let slip some uncomfortable truths:

  • *NATO DIPLOMAT SAYS PUTIN HOLDS TACTIAL SHORT-TERM CARDS (hhmm, ok)
  • *NATO DIPLOMAT SAYS LONG-TERM GEOPOLITICAL TRENDS FAVOR THE WEST (phew…)
  • *NATO DIPLOMAT SAYS PUTIN WON’T BE AROUND FOREVER (threat or warning?)

So, all the west has to do is be patient? Wait out Putin? We suspect that ‘strategy’ may get accelerated at some point.

Pope Francis Gets Involved In Geopolitics, “Endorses Use Of Force” Against ISIS Jihadists

Pope Francis Gets Involved In Geopolitics, “Endorses Use Of Force” Against ISIS Jihadists (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

Pope Francis, who until now has had an aura of pacifism “above all else”, if now and then bashing the occasional banker for creating record wealth disparity around the globe, just shattered his reputation of a man of peace at all costs, and moments ago endorsed the use of force in Iraq to stop Islamic militants from attacking religious minorities. He added that ays the international community — and not just one country — should decide how to intervene. He did not clarify just which superpower the last statement was a direct jab against.

From AP:

Francis also said he and his advisers are considering whether he might go to northern Iraq to show solidarity with persecuted Christians, but are holding off on a decision for now.

Something tells us his advisors will not greenlight such a trip.

15% of French people back ISIS militants, poll finds (RT, Aug 18, 2014):

Up to 15 percent of French people said they have a positive attitude toward the Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The share of ISIS supporters is largest among France’s younger generation, a new poll says.

Twice as many French people expressed a positive reaction to Islamic State (IS) militants than in Britain, where the number of people favorably disposed to the IS stands at 7 percent, and Germany, where a meager 2 percent of the respondents sided with the IS, according to a poll carried out in July among 1,000 people aged over 15 years (over 18 in Britain) in each country. The poll was conducted by ICM Research for the Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya.

Gunmen Attack Saudi Prince In Paris, Steal “Sensitive Documents”

–  Gunmen Attack Saudi Prince In Paris, Steal “Sensitive Documents” (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

Amid all the global geopolitical tensions – which the stock market apparently believes are all fixed now – news that the motorcade of a Saudi prince was attacked in Paris by Kalashnikov-wielding gunmen takes on more relevance than it normally would. The attackers stole 250,000 Euros in cash and more crucially – “sensitive documents.” No suspects have been apprehended and to make matters more complex, local police noted “It’s quite an unusual attack. They were obviously well-informed. It’s true that it’s quite a rare way of operating.

Masters of the Internet: GCHQ scanned entire countries for vulnerabilities

Masters of the Internet: GCHQ scanned entire countries for vulnerabilities (RT, Aug 18, 2014):

GCHQ is scanning servers in multiple foreign countries for vulnerable ports, according to German newspaper Heise. Using a tool called Hacienda, the intelligence agency seeks to ‘master the internet’ for sources of espionage.

Spanish for estate, Hacienda can port scan all of the servers in a country to provide information on user endpoints and scan for potential vulnerabilities. The ability to port scan is not new, but the scale of its use by government spies, with 27 countries scanned by 2009, has shocked many familiar with the software.

“In 2009, the British spy agency GCHQ made port scans a ‘standard tool’ to be applied against entire nations,” Heise reports. “Twenty-seven countries are listed as targets of the Hacienda [program].”

Ebola Panic Reaches New Highs: Korean Bar Bans “Africans” (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

With race-relations in American at a boiling point, it is perhaps worth a glance at Asia for some context. As Media Equalizer’s Brian Maloney reports, one restaurant in South Korea is refusing to serve black people due to fears over Ebola! Given that many American soldiers stationed in Korea are African-American, it’s hard to believe this isn’t generating more attention here at home.

Why Were The Police In Ferguson Told Not To Stop The Rampant Looting On Friday Night?

Ferguson-Looting-Posted-by-Michael-Calhoun-On-Twitter

Why Were The Police In Ferguson Told Not To Stop The Rampant Looting On Friday Night? (Economic Collapse, Aug 17, 2014):

On Friday night, the city of Ferguson, Missouri was absolutely packed with militarized police.  But when the looting started, they did nothing about it.  In fact, news reports indicate that the police were lined up just blocks from where the looting was happening but did not make any attempt to stop it.  When I first read the news reports that I am about to share with you, I could hardly believe them.  I had to read them more than once just to be sure that I was understanding what I was reading.  According to eyewitnesses, police vehicles were seen driving by some of the stores while they were being looted and they did not respond.  If the police are not even going to lift a finger to stop rampant theft, then what in the world are they there for?  Why don’t they just pack up and leave the streets completely?  If they are just there to confront protesters and arrest journalists, all they are accomplishing is inflaming the situation.  And is this what we can expect when civil unrest spreads to more cities throughout America?  Will we not be able to depend on the police to protect our homes and our businesses?

What I am about to share with you are excerpts from mainstream news reports about how the police did nothing to stop the looting.  To me, this stand down by the police is one of the most disturbing aspects of the Ferguson riots so far.

NSA BIOS Backdoor a.k.a. God Mode

NSA BIOS Backdoor a.k.a. God Mode Malware Part (Infosec Institute):

This article is the first part of a series on NSA BIOS backdoor internals. Before we begin, I’d like to point out why these malwares are classified as “god mode.” First, most of the malware uses an internal (NSA) codename in the realms of “gods,” such as DEITYBOUNCE, GODSURGE, etc. Second, these malwares have capabilities similar to “god mode” cheats in video games, which make the player using it close to being invincible. This is the case with this type of malware because it is very hard to detect and remove, even with the most sophisticated anti-malware tools, during its possible deployment timeframe.

Chinese Troops ‘Invade’ 25Km Into India, “This Is Chinese Territory, Go Back” (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

Update: who says media disinformation only takes place in Ukraine; apparently the same takes placed between India and China. Bloomberg cites an Indian army spokesman S.D. Goswami who denies Chinese entered territory in Ladakh, a mountainous area in northern India. “No incursion or encroachment of Indian territory by China has taken place along the India-China border,” Goswami says in statement. “There are areas along the border where India and China have differing perception” of line of actual control. “Due to both sides undertaking patrolling up to their respective.

Fifteen months ago we reported China’s stealth invasion of India’s Ladakh region, and now, as PTI reports, Chinese troops are reported to have entered deep into Indian territory in Burtse area in Ladakh where they had pitched their tents last year. Indian troops spotted Chinese personnel 25 to 30 km from the perceived Line of Actual Control (LAC). PLA personnel carried flags reading “this is Chinese territory, go back” in their hands and they refused to move after being confronted by India’s quick response team.

Toddler Critically Burned When SWAT Team Throws Flashbang In Crib

County officials refuse to pay medical bills for toddler burned by SWAT grenade (RT, Aug 18, 2014):

Officials in Georgia’s Habersham County are refusing to pay for the mounting medical expenses of a toddler seriously injured by a flash grenade after a failed SWAT team raid earlier this year.

Bounkham ‘Bou Bou’ Phonesavanh was just 19 months old when a Habersham SWAT team initiated a no-knock warrant at his family’s home at around 3 a.m. on May 28. Bou Bou was asleep in his crib at the time, surrounded by his family and three sisters. The toddler was severely injured when SWAT team officers broke through the house’s door and threw a flashbang grenade that ultimately landed in the Bou Bou’s crib.

When the stun grenade went off, it caused severe burns on the child and opened a gash in his chest. As a result, Bou Bou lost the ability to breathe on his own and was left in a medically induced coma for days after the incident. His extensive recovery necessitated stays in two hospitals before he finally went home in July.

Disinformation War Escalates: Ukraine, Rebels Accuse Each Other Of Attacking Refugee Convoy

Disinformation War Escalates: Ukraine, Rebels Accuse Each Other Of Attacking Refugee Convoy (ZeroHedge, Aug 18, 2014):

The world has completely forgotten the latest round of disinformation spread by the Ukraine government, one which sent the “market” plunging, namely that a Russian military convoy was attacked and almost completely “eliminated” on Ukraine territory on Thursday night, a statement which was also “confirmed” by none other than the Ukraine president, yet where not a single trace of evidence was released showing any such convoy destruction.  So it is time for yet another round of (dis)information warfare, which we got this morning when Ukraine accused pro-Russian rebels on Monday of hitting a refugee convoy of buses with rocket fire near the eastern city of Luhansk, killing people trapped in the burning vehicles.

Eager to move on from Friday’s disinformation fiasco, Ukrainian military spokesmen said the bus convoy had been in an area of fierce fighting between government forces and the separatists. As Reuters reports, it had come under fire from rebel Grad and mortar launchers, they said, causing an unknown number of casualties.

Struggling Liberia creates ‘plague villages’ in Ebola epicenter

Struggling Liberia creates ‘plague villages’ in Ebola epicenter (Reuters, Aug 17, 2014):

To try to control the Ebola epidemic spreading through West Africa, Liberia has quarantined remote villages at the epicenter of the virus, evoking the “plague villages” of medieval Europe that were shut off from the outside world.

With few food and medical supplies getting in, many abandoned villagers face a stark choice: stay where they are and risk death or skip quarantine, spreading the infection further in a country ill-equipped to cope.

In Boya, in northern Liberia’s Lofa County, Joseph Gbembo, who caught Ebola and survived, says he is struggling to raise 10 children under five years old and support five widows after nine members of his family were killed by the virus.

Fearful of catching Ebola themselves, the 30-year-old’s neighbors refuse to speak with him and blame him for bringing the virus to the village.
