Study: Popular Swine Flu Vaccine Linked To Narcolepsy (CBS News, March 6, 2013):

A popular swine flu vaccine has been linked to cases of narcolepsy in children. With more than 30 million doses of GlaxoSmithKline’s Pandemrix swine flu vaccine distributed during the H1N1 flu pandemic between 2009 and 2010, new research indicates that the vaccine is putting children at a higher risk for developing narcolepsy.

According to researchers at Britain’s Health Protection Agency, children are 14 times more likely to have narcolepsy after taking the vaccine. Representatives for the drug maker said that more than 800 cases of narcolepsy in Europe have been connected to the shot.

“We really want to get to the bottom of this and understand more about the potential role of Pandemrix in the development of narcolepsy,” a spokesman for Pandemrix told Reuters.

The finding come years after 30 million doses of the GSK vaccine were distributed in 47 countries during the flue pandemic.
