– Egyptian troops storm Tahrir Square protest camp (Telegraph, Aug. 1, 2011)
The square had been taken over by Egyptians angry at the slow pace of progress by the military regime since the President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in February.
Among their demands were that Mubarak stand trial for allegedly ordering the violence which met the original uprising, as well the removal of the former president’s loyalists from the new government.
The square was re-opened by police after the last of the protesters had been removed.
