  1. Don’t forget the minerals. In 2010, China stopped selling rare earth minerals to the US and other nations. Afghanistan has these minerals, and the US, along with the rest of the west, wants them.
    The minerals are more valuable than the drugs.
    Don’t lose sight of that.
    Why are the French fighting so hard in a little landlocked country in Africa? The minerals.
    Without rare earth minerals, the entire world will find it much harder to build lots of things from weapons to smartphones.
