Obama Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution by Bombing Iraq
– Obama Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution by Bombing Iraq (Liberty Blitzkrieg, Aug 8, 2014):
“Hell, those dumb, stupid sailors were just shooting at flying fish!”
– U.S. President Lyndon Johnson commenting on the Gulf of Tonkin incident
Fifty years ago yesterday, on August 7, 1964, Congress passed the now infamous Gulf of Tonkin resolution, which led to a massive escalation of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Without a formal declaration of war, the resolution permitted President Johnson to take “all necessary measures” to support South Vietnam, including armed forces. This resulted in 58,000 dead Americans and well over a million dead Vietnamese, both civilians and military personnel.
The resolution was passed based on President Johnson’s claim that the destroyer USS Maddox had been attacked for the second time in one week. While the Maddox did indeed suffer from a torpedo attack on August 2, 1964 after a raid on the North Vietnamese coast by South Vietnamese gunboats, the second attack was a pure fabrication. Furthermore, Johnson never discussed the background on the initial incident to Congress. Had Congress actually knew what happened it may have prevented this resolution from passing, thus saving millions of lives. Here’s a quick summary from History.com:

The Truth About About The Gulf Of Tonkin Incidents
– The Truth About Tonkin (U.S. Naval Institute):
Naval History Magazine – February 2008 Volume 22, Number 1
By Lieutenant Commander Pat Paterson, U.S. Navy
Questions about the Gulf of Tonkin incidents have persisted for more than 40 years. But once-classified documents and tapes released in the past several years, combined with previously uncovered facts, make clear that high government officials distorted facts and deceived the American public about events that led to full U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
On 2 August 1964, North Vietnamese patrol torpedo boats attacked the USS Maddox (DD-731) while the destroyer was in international waters in the Gulf of Tonkin. There is no doubting that fact. But what happened in the Gulf during the late hours of 4 August—and the consequential actions taken by U.S. officials in Washington—has been seemingly cloaked in confusion and mystery ever since that night.
Nearly 200 documents the National Security Agency (NSA) declassified and released in 2005 and 2006, however, have helped shed light on what transpired in the Gulf of Tonkin on 4 August. The papers, more than 140 of them classified top secret, include phone transcripts, oral-history interviews, signals intelligence (SIGINT) messages, and chronologies of the Tonkin events developed by Department of Defense and NSA officials. Combined with recently declassified tapes of phone calls from White House officials involved with the events and previously uncovered facts about Tonkin, these documents provide compelling evidence about the subsequent decisions that led to the full commitment of U.S. armed forces to the Vietnam War.
Former Governor Jesse Ventura on Government Cover-Ups . . . 9/11, the Reality of HAARP and Making Government Better

Introduction: Jesse Ventura is the former Independent Governor of Minnesota. He is also a former U.S. Navy SEAL, professional wrestler, movie actor, a visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and the New York Times bestselling author of five books. He is currently the host and executive producer of TruTV’s Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura. He has a reputation as the ultimate non-partisan truth-seeker; he has no qualms about questioning authority. Daily Bell: Thanks for sitting down with us. You’ve written another very interesting book, “63 Documents the Government Doesn’t Want You To Read.” Tell us about it.
Jesse Ventura: This is a book I collaborated on with Dick Russell, and I would like to give him the credit for doing all the research. That’s why we make a good team. I just don’t have the patience to do the research he does. It was our publisher, SkyHorse – it was their idea to do this book. Dick and I started searching for these documents, which are all documents released by the US government. WikiLeaks started releasing information right before we started, so naturally we used some of their stuff too. We started by going back to World War II, and we picked out 63 documents that we thought were very important. We choose 63 because that was the same year that President John F. Kennedy was murdered. That was when everything went bad. If you can murder the president and get away with it, you can do anything.
Daily Bell: Do you use original sources?
Jesse Ventura: Absolutely. The documents are original, not opinion. We reprinted the documents, so the reader has the ability to read all of them.
Daily Bell: What was the most shocking thing you learned.
Former Governor: “Absolutely” danger of false flag as pretext to attack Iran
Former Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura warns that Neo-Cons are so desperate to maintain a grip on power that they could stage a terror event in order to create a pretext for attacking Iran.
Speaking on the Alex Jones Show before last night’s announcement that he would not be running for U.S. Senate, Ventura said a conflict with Iran was all but inevitable.
“I don’t see any way of avoiding it because I think it’s gonna be Bush’s last hurrah,” said Ventura, adding that another war front would only help the Republicans and John McCain.
“We are now a first strike nation, 9/11 changed our entire foreign policy, we will now attack another country before they attack us, which we proved in Iraq,” he added.
Asked if we were in danger of seeing the Neo-Cons stage some kind of Gulf of Tonkin false flag or other terror event as a pretext for attacking Iran, Ventura responded, “Absolutely, read the last epilogue in my book, I wrote that a year ago.”
