Donetsk militia confirm leaving stronghold city of Slavyansk – media (RT, July 5, 2014):

The self-defense forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic have left Slavyansk, which is surrounded by the Kiev military, Russian media reported, citing the republic’s headquarters.

“The Ukrainian military is in control of Slavyansk,” Channel One reported citing the headquarters of the Donetsk People’s Republic. “Early in the morning, the self-defense fighters were forced to leave the city.”

According to Channel One’s information “there was massive shelling” and then armored vehicles entered Slavyansk and street fighting began. That’s when the self-defense forces took the decision to leave the city, the channel said.

“Despite the massive shooting, the fighters stormed out of the city and headed for neighboring Kramatorsk. Part of their hardware was shot down in the process,” the channel said.

Rossiya 24 channel also reported that self-defense forces had quit Slavyansk, and moved their HQ to Kramatorsk.

After the militia were forced to leave their positions in the northern part of the front, they moved to reserve positions that had been prepared in advance, Itar-Tass news agency reported, citing Prime Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Aleksandr Boroday, as saying.

E. Ukraine warzone: Demolished houses, fires after heavy shelling (VIDEOS) (RT, June 9, 2014):

Despite President Poroshenko intention to bring about a ceasefire, Kiev’s relentless military operation in the country’s east is intensifying. Slavyansk has become one of the main targets of artillery attacks, amateur videos filmed in the area show.

We must reach a ceasefire this week. Each day when people are dying, each day when Ukraine pays such a high price is unacceptable for me,” newly sworn-in President Petro Poroshenko said on June 8 after trilateral talks on eastern Ukraine with Russian and OSCE representatives.

Still, constant fire is heard in the evening hours in residential areas of Slavyansk, with frustrated people seeking shelter when the shelling erupts. A woman is heard asking a man where it’s safe to hide.

Over A Thousand Soldiers Killed As Ukraine Fighting Escalates, Russian Media Reports

– Over A Thousand Soldiers Killed As Ukraine Fighting Escalates, Russian Media Reports (ZeroHedge, May 29, 2014):

While one should take locally sourced news on the volatile situation in Ukraine, reported by media that is ideologically close to the source, with a grain of salt, Russian press agency RIA has generally had a good track record in reporting news regarding the Ukraine civil war. In which case if the following report of what may have happened overnight during the latest escalation of fighting in the eastern Ukraine city of Slavyansk, and which certainly doesn’t paint the Ukraine army in a favorable light, is even partially correct one can see why suddenly western media news coverage of the civil war in Ukraine has become somewhat sparse.

According to RIA, quoting Slaviansk people’s mayor Vyacheslav Ponomaryov, about 1,200 Ukrainian army soldiers have been killed during a special operation in Slaviansk, and eight helicopters and 15 armored vehicles were destroyed. Supposedly this includes the 1 helicopter whose crash was reported previously.

Watch As Ukraine Helicopter With 14 Troops On Board Is Shot Down (ZeroHedge, May 29, 2014):

Events in Ukraine may have been moved to the backburner because not only are they not impacting US equities but have somehow managed to push Russian stocks to pre-sanction highs, but that does not mean that there is any de-escalation in the self-proclaimed eastern regions of Donetsk and Slavyansk where fighting between pro-Russian groups and Kiev army rages on. The latest incident took place a little over an hour ago when Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine shot down a military helicopter near Sloviansk, killing 14 people, the country’s outgoing president says.

This attack took place following a weekend of heavy fighting in Donetsk following a push against “terrorists” by the new president that left many rebel soldiers dead.

Donetsk Warns Ukraine Army Located In The East To ‘Leave In 48 Hours’ Or Face War – Ukraine Forces Attack Eastern City Of Slovyansk

Donetsk Warns Ukraine Army Located In The East To “Leave In 48 Hours” Or Face War (ZeroHedge, May 12, 2014):

Update: And just to make sure Russia has a catalyst:

  • UKRAINE FORCES ATTACK EASTERN CITY OF SLOVYANSK, INTERFAX SAYS

* * *

With the US having voiced its support for Ukraine’s “anti-terrorist” operations, and Russia strongly supportive of pro-Russian people’s decisions to regional self-determination, the threats coming from the newly independent regions are a concern (that markets clearly do not care about):

  • DONETSK ARMY SAYS WILL FIGHT UKRAINE FORCES IF DEADLINE IGNORED

Ukrainian military forces have 48 hours to leave the region or Donetsk own “anti-terrorist” forces will fight. Of course, with the US already saying the referendums are illegal and not recognizing them, we suspect it will be time for more sanctions soon (despite the lessons below).

Insurgent group army of so-called Donetsk People’s Republic “will start its own anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk region” against Ukrainian military forces if they don’t heed seperatist army chief Igor Girkin’s 48-hour ultimatum to leave or obey him, head of seperatist group, Denis Pushilin, says by phone.

So… buy stocks?

And a different perspective on which the western approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis may not be exactly “working.”

Satellite Images Reveal Massing Of 15,000 Ukraine Troops, Hundreds Of Tanks Around Slavyansk

Looks like the elitists (Rothschilds etc.) really want to start another world war.

Satellite Images Reveal Massing Of 15,000 Ukraine Troops, Hundreds Of Tanks Around Slavyansk (ZeroHedge, April 26, 2014):

Yesterday, we jokingly noted that with separatists blockading Slavyansk from a Ukraine special-forces invasion, and with the Ukraine army blockading Slavyansk from said separatists (unclear exactly why), that the east Ukraine city of Slavyansk is easily the most blocked city in the world (and in dire need of fiber). However, based on just released satellite imagery showing the build up of Ukraine forces around Slavyansk – a city which as a reminder is located in Ukraine – what is going on around Slavyansk is no laughing matter.

Russian RIA Novosti reports that it has received satellite photos, “which clearly show the accumulation of a large number of Ukrainian military equipment and weapons on the border with the Russian Federation and in the vicinity of Slavyasnk.” RIA cites a source in the Russian Defense Ministry, who commented that the pictures show a military formation designed “to wipe out the city and all its inhabitants from the face of the earth.”

“During the antiterrorist operation, three checkpoints erected by illegal military groups have been destroyed in the northeastern part of Slavyansk,” the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said, adding: “At least five terrorists have been killed. One policeman was injured.”

Witnesses report on Twitter Slavyansk self-defense forces are now burning tires to hamper the entrance of infantry vehicles from Kiev into the city.

According to Rossiya 24 TV channel, self-defense forces have repelled the attack of the Kiev gunmen at the key checkpoint 3 km north of Slavyansk. At least three infantry vehicles had to retreat.

Police has announced the beginning of the crackdown via loudspeakers and a special vehicle is currently patrolling the streets warning local people about the crackdown.

The local citizens in the city are preparing for the Kiev crackdown. The majority of shops, kindergartens and schools have been closed in the city. Only the shops selling bread and water remain open.

“Fighting the outskirts of Slavyansk started at about 12pm Moscow time (08:00 GMT),” one of the leaders of the self-defense forces, Miroslav Rudenko, told Interfax, “We are checking reports of one dead and one injured. There are shootings at a number of checkpoints at some of Slavyansk exit-roads.”

Rudenko said it was impossible to reach self-defense leaders in Slavyansk by phone, suspecting that mobile phone connection could have been switched off.
