Former NATO chief Rasmussen wants US ‘to police the world’:

Former NATO head Anders Fogh Rasmussen has called on the US to act as the world’s policeman to “counter autocrats like President [Vladimir] Putin.” He made the comments in an editorial for the Wall Street Journal.

In his opinion, only the US has the “credibility” to be a “policeman to restore order, a firefighter to put out the flames of conflict, and a kind of mayor, smart and sensible, to lead the rebuilding.”

Central to his desire to have a strong America is his belief in the necessity to counteract President Putin, who he called an “autocrat,” while adding that “Russia is obsessed with rebuilding the empire the Soviet Union lost.”

Goldman Hires Former Head Of NATO To Deal With DONG Scandal

Goldman Hires Former Head Of NATO To Deal With DONG Scandal (ZeroHedge, Aug 9, 2015):

Back in January 2014, we reported that Goldman’s merchant banking unit rushed to buy an 18% in Denmark’s DONG Energy (that would be Danish Oil & Natural Gas) company for $1.5 billion. The result was an immediate grassroots resistance campaign, as hundreds of thousands of Danes refused to hand over their DONG to the vampire squid for various reasons, not the least of which was granting Goldman veto rights over changes to DONG’s leadership and strategy, a right usually reserved for buyers of 33% of an entity. A bigger reason for the Danish anger at the Goldman DONG deal, was that as The Local reported a few months later, the sale “did not include a massive deal that both parties knew was imminent, shortchanging the company’s value by as much as 20 billion kroner.”

Which was to be expected: as we further said in January 2014, “if Goldman is involved, it guarantees future benefits for the Vampire Squid”. Sure enough:

NATO chief ‘no longer trusts’ Russia after Ukraine (PressTV,  May 17, 2014):

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said he could no longer trust Russia’s assurances on the territorial integrity of nations in the region after developments in Ukraine.

Rasmussen made the comments at a press conference on Friday during an official visit to an alliance member, Romania, which shares borders with Ukraine.

“After what we have seen in Ukraine, no one can trust Russia’s so-called guarantees on other countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Rasmussen.

The NATO chief also said in the wake of the crisis in Ukraine the alliance has reinforced the collective defense of its members and “will not hesitate to take further steps” in that respect “if needed.”

Ukraine crisis: Nato warns Russia against further intervention (BBC News, April 8, 2014):

Nato has warned Russia that further intervention in Ukraine would be a “historic mistake” with grave consequences.

Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Moscow must pull back troops it has massed on the Ukrainian border.

On Tuesday, Ukraine regained control of one of the government buildings occupied by pro-Russian activists in the east of the country.

Moscow has said that using force to end the protests could lead to civil war.

Leaders of the NATO alliance are to endorse cuts of 30% in its military command structure that will see about 4,000 officers return to their home countries.

Under plans to be agreed at the NATO summit, which opens in Lisbon on Friday, the alliance’s 28 leaders will agree to what is being described by officials as a “pruning” of the NATO Christmas tree. The alliance will cut the number of:

• Military officers based at a series of NATO headquarters, mainly in Brussels, from 13,000 to 9,000.

• NATO headquarters across the alliance’s 28 members.

• NATO agencies from 14 to three.
