There’s an interesting trend happening in America today. A trend characterized by old, authoritarian, formerly “highly respected” figures in society becoming so confused and concerned that the zeitgeist of the nation is moving away from them, that they are overcome by dementia and publicly lash out like spoiled children in increasingly irrational manner. Two of my favorite examples of such behavior are Senator John McCain and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Now we can add another character to the list, former CIA and NSA head Michael Hayden.

Amongst other things, here is what he said about Snowden supporters:

Nihilists, anarchists, activists, Lulzsec, Anonymous, twenty-somethings who haven’t talked to the opposite sex in five or six years.

First of all, this is a typical response from a person who cannot win an argument. Appeal to emotion or engage in bizarre personal attacks. We saw Chris Christie desperately do this the other day when he attacked libertarians for “thinking,” in a pathetic attempt to create some perverted neocon buzz about himself ahead of 2016. However, even more hilariously, here is a picture of Michael Hayden.

Hacker – real name Hector Xavier Monsegur – helped US authorities bring charges against five others

The world’s most notorious computer hacker has been working as an informer for the FBI for at least the last six months, it emerged on Tuesday, providing information that has helped contribute to the charging of five others, including two Britons, for computer hacking offences.

Hector Xavier Monsegur, an unemployed 28-year-old Puerto Rican living in New York, was unmasked as “Sabu”, the leader of the LulzSec hacking group that has been behind a wave of cyber raids against American corporations including Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, the intelligence consultancy Stratfor, British and American law enforcement bodies, and the Irish political party Fine Gael.

Five alleged hackers have been charged with breaking into the computer systems of governments, corporations and media organizations after the reputed head of the LulzSec ring became an FBI informant, authorities announced.

Update at 7:15 p.m. ET: The original post overlooked the arrest of Jeremy Hammond, 27, of Chicago, who was charged with hacking into the systems of Texas-based Stratfor, which provides geopolitical and military analysis for governments, corporations, media and other clients.

Federal officials alleged that Hammond and other members of AntiSec, which is loosely affiliated with LulzSec and Anonymous, stole (completely worthless!) Stratfor employee e-mails and account information for about 860,000 clients. The so-called hacktivists allegedly stole credit card information for about 60,000 users, which they posted to a website, and made $700,000 in unauthorized charges, the Chicago Tribune says. WikiLeaks later published some of the 5 million e-mails pilfered from Stratfor in December.

– Lulzsec hacker: ‘we still have Sun emails, stored in China’ (Guardian, Oct. 10, 2011):

The hacker who styles himself “Sabu”, erstwhile leader of the LulzSechacking crew, claims to have a cache of emails copied from the Sun which are being stored on a Chinese server, along with data from a number of other hacks.

But he claimed this weekend that they will not be released yet: “there are a lot of interesting dumps we’re sitting on due to timing,” he wrote on his Twitter feed. He claims that hackers have broken into banks including HSBC and “a few others” but that they have found “no smoking guns yet” in the data there.

It was only a few short weeks ago that we reported that the hacker group LulzSec which among others hacked the FBI, Sony, and who knows how many other security agencies, has decided to shut down. That didn’t last long. As of a few minutes ago, The Sun’s front page redirects to a makeshift website called New-Times.co.uk which carries a headline story titled “Media Moguls Body Discovered” which reports that “Rupert Murdoch, the controversial media mogul, has reportedly been found dead in his garden, police announce.” Readers can experience the hack for themselves by going to thesun.co.uk. Naturally, that this is like poking a stick in an already angry hornet’s nest goes without mention. As for the masses, we expect the distraction should be quite welcome.

When is the last time you can recall so many news items about hackers? It’s become a massive meme within society as a whole. Hardly a day goes by without some discussion or news about hackers.

And, I should mention this right off: If there was ever any attempt to soft-pedal the word hacker versus cracker (with hacker meaning a guy who likes to fool around with his computer to discover new things and the cracker meaning the evil, black-hat criminal), well that definition is done. The hacker today is now the cracker for all practical purposes of discussion.

Now that I have that definition out of the way, let me try and figure out what is going on here.

– We’re not quitting because we’re afraid of the FBI, we’re just bored, claim LulzSec hackers as they abruptly disband (Daily Mail, June 27, 2011):

Hacking ground LulzSec are not disbanding because they are afraid of the FBI, they are simply bored, one member has claimed today.

The group has attacked the CIA, FBI and Sony, boasting of wreaking havoc across the internet.

But yesterday they announced on Twitter they are to disband – with the authorities fast closing in on them.

‘We’re not quitting because we’re afraid of law enforcement,’ the LulzSec member said in a conversation with The Associated Press over the Internet voice program Skype yesterday.

‘The press are getting bored of us, and we’re getting bored of us.’

HACKERS FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT Lulzsec took down the CIA web site yesterday, ‘for the lulz’.

The group, which hacks or takes down up to three or more online presences a day, announced the hack last night on its twitter feed, saying “Tango down – cia.gov – for the lulz“.

The apparent denial of service attack came on the same day that the hackers opened up a phone request line for targets and continued to rain down its own brand of entertainment on a number of gaming sites, including Eve Online.

This attack seems to have been a brief one and apparently took the US spooks’ web site down for only about an hour. Unlike when it hacked the US Senate, Lulzsec has not released any plundered data and it seemed to move away from its target quickly.

A short while later it added, “Goodnight twitter. The CIA anti-lizards will probably rise from the packet sea while we rest our shining-yet-saturated power field arrays.”

Fun seems to be the motive behind the group’s actions, but that does not mean that it has not created enemies, including some of the infamous 4chan forum members and the even more scary CIA.

That doesn’t seem to bother it though. “Lulz Security, where the entertainment is always at your expense, whether you realize it or not”, reads one of its tweets, “Wrecking your infrastructures since 2011.”

Some here at The INQUIRER strongly suspect that Lulzsec is actually a US government sponsored false flag nuisance hacking operation that’s meant to stampede lawmakers into granting ever more draconian surveillance and control powers over the internet to the emerging US police state.
