Swedish media label demonstrators “unaccompanied refugee children” while they’re clearly adults

Swedish media label demonstrators “unaccompanied refugee children” while they’re clearly adults:

The tweet above reads:

“This image is now being used by SVT. And on SR they’re saying the demonstrators are between 13 and 17 years of age.”

The screenshotted headline speaks of:

“unaccompanied children”.

Fria Tider published an article on 7 August about a Twitter-storm concerning the apparent age of so-called ‘refugee children’.

On Sunday, hundreds of so-called ‘refugee children’ went ‘on strike’, demanding they are not deported back to Afghanistan. In an open letter to Migration Board Director General Mikael Ribbenvik they write:

Is Sweden really a moral country when it tells Swedes not to go to Afghanistan because it is dangerous, yet it is deemed safe for us young people to live there. It’s not human.

The event was covered by local media, whose articles and images were subsequently published by a variety of Swedish media: GP, Swedish Radio etc.

Swedish Radio managed to argue that the people pictured were children, aged 13-17. The problem is, that the people in the pictures don’t look like children or adolescents, but rather, like they might be 25 to 40 years old, with many sporting a beard and a wrinkled face.

This would be in line with the conclusions reached by the National Board of Medicines. Last week, it reported that at least 80% of those so-called ‘unaccompanied minors’ who have undergone medical age assessment have been found to be adults. These findings are consistent with a prior study, claiming that 78.5% of those registered as unaccompanied minors are actually adults.
