The electricity needed for an Ali smelter to melt the bauxite, is awesome & increasingly expensive.
The only method used is electric furnaces, but as the costs increased they shut the plants down, instead moving to geo-thermally active sites like Iceland where there are now 6 large international smelter plants producing their own juice to melt.
Iceland allows this in return for free juice for the adjacent towns.
