    Fort Peck Dam, near at the choking point of Fort Peck Lake, a reservoir created from an earthen dam, is 140 miles from Williston ND. and about 250 miles from Bismarck.

    Based on the problem with the Feather River Oroville Dam issue last year, an old earthen dam is a potential disaster, especially with techtonic vibrations common, and increasing in the Yellowstone hinterland.
