ITALY DOWN: ‘Italy’s FTSE MIB Index Suspended Before Close’ (Reuters)

Italy’s FTSE MIB index suspended before close (Reuters, Aug 4, 2011):

MILAN, Aug 4 (Reuters) – The Italian bourse said on Thursday that Italy’s blue-chip FTSE MIB index was not being published, without giving a reason.

According to Reuters data, the FTSE Italian all-share index was also suspended.

Market regulator Consob is investigating the incident, a source close to Consob told Reuters.

The suspension of the Italian indexes around 30 minutes before the market close occurred as NYSE Euronext said publication of the indexes of Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Lisbon had been suspended.

Euronext later said the indexes had resumed.

The last reading on the FTSE MIB index was at 1500 GMT, when it was indicated down 3.2 percent. The bourse did not provide closing data. (Reporting by Sabina Suzzi, Elisa Anzolin and Paola Arosio; Editing by Will Waterman)
