It was early in the 2000s when Eminent Domain laws were changed radically. It used to be government could claim the land of any civilian for community use. Friends of mine lost a big piece of their beautiful estate to a school regardless of the fact there was a site available already down the road.
But, around 2004, it was changed. Now, your lands can be claimed in eminent domain by commercial developers, not just government. Of course, media buried the story. So, if you have a home in an area a developer wants, you will lose it.
