Economics 101: Wal-Mart Hikes Minimum Wages, Prepares To Fire 1000

Economics 101: Wal-Mart Hikes Minimum Wages, Prepares To Fire 1000 (ZeroHedge, July 31, 2015):

Please remember, these people are our neighbors and friends. You have a skill that will be very much in need when this goes down. You are experts in the job market and you know what it takes to get hired. This is a time for us to step up and do what we can to help.”

The quote above is from an internal memo sent to employees of Northwest Arkansas recruiting firm Cameron Smith & Associates and references an expected wave of layoffs at WalMart’s home office in Bentonville.

The memo was obtained by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, who spoke with Cameron Smith himself via e-mail.

Closed Walmarts Are Micro-chipping and Slave Labor Processing Centers (The Common Sense Show, June 23, 2015):

I think a lot of us in the Independent Media have come to realize is that the key to understanding the depth and breadth of Jade Helm is connected to the goings on at the various closed Walmart stores.

A very clear picture is beginning to emerge as to the end game for closed Walmarts. Walk through this journey of revelation where many of these questions related to the strange happenings at various Walmarts will be answered.

From La Junta, Colorado

I was sent the following email and subsequent videos by Christina Sarro of La Junta, CO. These videos are very telling and provide very strong clues as to the end game of Jade Helm if one knows what they are looking for. Please be patient in these videos. They are raw, on the street reporting and you will have to sift through some irrelevance in order to get to the meet of the matter. These videos are so stunning, that it is very easy to miss just how important these videos are.

World War III, Walmart, FEMA Camps, Jade Helm: A Clergy Response Team Insider Reveals What Lies Aheed (The Common Sense Show, June 23, 2015):

Pastor Mansfield’s “Insider” Revelations

Pastor Mansfield was recruited to become a member of the Clergy Response Team which would operate under the control of NOVAD and DHS. Mansfield’s revelations about his experiences are stunning and concerning at the same time.

Pastor Mansfield attended several briefings and he could barely believe his ears. He learned of the government’s plan to enact martial law as well as to implement forced population relocations. Mansfield emphasized that when martial law is enacted, the enforcement would be immediate. In other words, family members will be separated from each other and part of the training that the clergy received was how to comfort separated family members.

How Wal-Mart Makes An Instant 65,724% Profit Selling … California Water

Wal-Mart Exposed Bottling Water from Sacramento Municipal Supply in the Middle of a Drought  (Liberty Blitzkrieg, May 11, 2015):

Wal-Mart is facing questions tonight after CBS13 learns the company draws its bottled water from a Sacramento water district during California’s drought.

According to its own labeling, the water in the gallon jugs appears to come from Sacramento’s water supply.

Sacramento sells water to a bottler, DS Services of America, at 99 cents for every 748 gallons—the same rate as other commercial and residential customers. That water is then bottled and sold at Walmart for 88 cents per gallon, meaning that $1 of water from Sacramento turns into $658.24 for Walmart and DS Services.

– From the CBS News in Sacramento article: Wal-Mart Bottled Water Comes From Sacramento Municipal Supply

We all know there’s a severe drought plaguing much of California. I haven’t focused on this topic much, but I did publish a very powerful post on it last fall titled: Video of the Day – Stunning Scenes from California’s Central Valley Drought. I suggest checking it out if you missed it the first time.

WalMart’s Mysterious Store Closure Devastates California City

From the article:

As 2,200 former Wal-Mart employees struggle to understand how “plumbing issues” could have possibly cost them their jobs literally overnight, and as the Labor Relations Board considers a complaint suggesting the retailer is using “clogs and leaks” as a pretense for retaliating against employees campaigning for workers’ rights, a California city is set to lose 10% of its total tax revenue. Meanwhile, the plumbing mystery deepens.

WalMart’s Mysterious Store Closure Devastates California City (ZeroHedge, April 28, 2015):

Earlier this month, we brought you the short history of worker protests at the Pico Rivera, CA Wal-Mart location. The store has been at the forefront of pickets, walkouts, and sit-ins for some time, with workers staging demonstrations every year since 2012, the latest of which came in November of last year and resulted in the arrest of two dozen workers. The employees — whose grievances generally revolve around wages, working conditions, and retaliation — have been supported by The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union or, UFCW, which last year prevailed in a Canadian Supreme Court case against the retailer stemming from a decade-old incident in Quebec when Wal-Mart closed a location after workers voted for UFCW representation.

Walmart, Lowe’s, Safeway, and Nordstrom Are Bankrolling a Nationwide Campaign to Gut Workers’ Comp

H/t reader M.G.:

“Here are more greedy gut corporations backing a movement to gut worker’s compensation……….disgusting. I would expect this of Walmart, but Nordstrom? I was surprised. Time for boycotting them, too…….as much as I love Nordstrom shoes……….”

Dark, Ominous Clouds Promise Rain and poor Weather.

Walmart, Lowe’s, Safeway, and Nordstrom Are Bankrolling a Nationwide Campaign to Gut Workers’ Comp (Mother Jones, March 26, 2015):

Nearly two dozen major corporations, including Walmart, Nordstrom, and Safeway, are bankrolling a quiet, multistate lobbying effort to make it harder for workers hurt on the job to access lost wages and medical care—the benefits collectively known as workers’ compensation.

The companies have financed a lobbying group, the Association for Responsible Alternatives to Workers’ Compensation (ARAWC), that has already helped write legislation in one state, Tennessee. Richard Evans, the group’s executive director, told an insurance journal in November that the corporations ultimately want to change workers’ comp laws in all 50 states. Lowe’s, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Sysco Food Services, and several insurance companies are also part of the year-old effort.

How Wal-Mart Fabricated And Lied About Its ‘Strong’ Chinese Sales For Years

How Wal-Mart Fabricated And Lied About Its “Strong” Chinese Sales For Years (ZeroHedge, Dec 11, 2014):

For many, if not most, companies and especially retailers, the great wildcard that is the “massive” Chinese market with the potential of hundreds of millions of buyers in the country’s nascent middle class, has been a slam dunk when it comes to boosting stock prices. After all, what can go wrong? America’s largest retailer was one of those hoping to capitalize on just this shareholder euphoria for Chinese exposure, and just like everyone else, it milked its Chinese exposure for many years. And then, unexpected everything did go wrong: as Bloomberg explains, “After years of heralding China as one of its best markets, Wal-Mart in August said its performance there was among the worst in its major countries.

How is that possible?

On the heels of Wal-Mart’s dismissal of the “great” jobs report, The Container Store CEO yesterday explained how Q1 weakness was “not just the weather” but an overall ‘funk’ in consumer spending. Last night we had a second firm – the much more integrated into the housing recovery, Lumber Liquidators – come out with some heresy about Q2 bounce backs and the weather…”demand strengthened for 30 days beginning in mid-March. But in May demand slowed and further weakened in June. We were somewhat surprised by the magnitude of the continued weakness in the stores designated as impacted by weather in the first quarter.” There goes Q2 GDP…

Q2 was worse that Q1!!

Walmart Pre-Crime Treats All Customers Like Criminals (The Daily Sheeple, May 26, 2014):

Walmart Pre-Crime treats all customers like criminals…but won’t/don’t stop real shoplifters.

Gone are the days of “Thank you, come again (we appreciate your business).”

Instead, today’s box stores target average customers as potential criminals, subjecting them to post-checkout screenings.

Because… somehow, RFID-tagged & tracked merchandise, ubiquitous security cameras from every angle inside and outside the store, security personnel, police officers and metal detectors at the door just aren’t enough.

As Goes Walmart, So Goes America: “Major Holes Are Starting to Form In Its Business” (SHFTplan, May 23, 2014):

If there’s one indicator of the state of the global economy it’s consumer purchasing on the retail level. And if there’s one retail company to watch as a prelude to what comes next it’s always been Walmart. Known for low prices, low wages, and multi-billion dollar profits, the world’s largest retailer is struggling.

According to a recent report from Motley Fool, the behemoth’s same stores sales in the U.S. have dropped precipitously and internationally they have outright collapsed, signalling serious trouble ahead.

THE RETAIL DEATH RATTLE

THE RETAIL DEATH RATTLE (The Burning Platform, Jan 19, 2014):

“I was part of that strange race of people aptly described as spending their lives doing things they detest, to make money they don’t want, to buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like.”Emile Gauvreau

If ever a chart provided unequivocal proof the economic recovery storyline is a fraud, the one below is the smoking gun. November and December retail sales account for 20% to 40% of annual retail sales for most retailers. The number of visits to retail stores has plummeted by 50% since 2010. Please note this was during a supposed economic recovery. Also note consumer spending accounts for 70% of GDP. Also note credit card debt outstanding is 7% lower than its level in 2010 and 16% below its peak in 2008. Retailers like J.C. Penney, Best Buy, Sears, Radio Shack and Barnes & Noble continue to report appalling sales and profit results, along with listings of store closings. Even the heavyweights like Wal-Mart and Target continue to report negative comp store sales. How can the government and mainstream media be reporting an economic recovery when the industry that accounts for 70% of GDP is in free fall? The answer is that 99% of America has not had an economic recovery. Only Bernanke’s 1% owner class have benefited from his QE/ZIRP induced stock market levitation.

Collecting Donations For Wal-Mart Employees That Cannot Afford Thanksgiving Dinner?

Collecting Donations For Wal-Mart Employees That Cannot Afford Thanksgiving Dinner? (Economic Collapse, Nov 18, 2013):

You may find what is happening at one Wal-Mart in Ohio very hard to believe.  At the Wal-mart on Atlantic Boulevard in Canton, Ohio employees are being asked to donate food items so that other employees that cannot afford to buy Thanksgiving dinner will be able to enjoy one too.  You can see a photo of the donation bins that has been posted on Twitter right here.  On the one hand, it is commendable that someone at that Wal-Mart is deeply concerned about the employees that are so poor that they cannot afford to buy the food that they need for Thanksgiving.  On the other hand, this is a perfect example that shows how the quality of the jobs in this country has gone down the toilet.  Wal-Mart is the largest employer in the United States and it had operating income of 26.5 billion dollars last year.  Wal-Mart is not required to pay their employees a decent wage, and it is very unlikely that anyone will force them to.  But they should.  Because Wal-Mart does not pay decent wages to their employees, the rest of us end up with the bill.  As you will see below, huge numbers of Wal-Mart employees end up on Medicaid and other government assistance programs.  Meanwhile, those that control Wal-Mart continue to enjoy absolutely massive profits.

The following is a short excerpt from a local news story about the donation bins that have been set out at the Wal-Mart in Canton, Ohio.  As the story notes, this does not appear to be a nationwide program, and the donation bins are only available in an employee-only area…

Walmart Shopping Stampede Ensues When Foodstamp Glitch Removes EBT Spending Limits

Walmart Shopping Stampede Ensues When Foodstamp Glitch Removes EBT Spending Limits (ZeroHedge, Oct 14, 2013):

On Saturday, tens of millions of Americans across 17 states found themselves in an unfamiliar situation: they couldn’t rely on the US government for their daily foodstamp-funded bread. The result was anger, confusion and sometimes, outright panic, as shoppers left their full shopping carts in stores, and departed their favorite general retailer in a daze. However, while most outlets that accepted EBT were experiencing a one-day, non-recurring hit to their EPS, several Walmart stores in Louisiana decided to brave through the Xerox-induced blackout for several hours by eliminating the spending caps on EBT cards, leading to nothing short of shopping stampedes. The result, as CBS reports, is that “Walmart and local police in Springhill and Mansfield … were called into the stores to help maintain order Saturday as shoppers swept through the aisles at two stores and bought as much as they could carry.”

CBS explains:

Walmart workers phoned their corporate headquarters to ask how they should handle all the shoppers with unlimited, government-funded spending limits, and were told to keep the registers ringing.

“We did make the decision to continue to accept EBT cards during the outage so that they could get food for their families,” Walmart representative Kayla Whaling told KSLA. She added that Walmart was, “fully engaged and monitoring the situation and transactions during the outage.”

Shoppers gave mixed reactions to the incident, with one man in the Springhill store told KSLA it was simply “human reaction” to stock-up when given the opportunity. Shopper Stan Garcia was more critical of the unscrupulous shoppers, however, saying that taking advantage of the brief glitch in the benefits system amounted to “plain theft. That’s stealing, that’s all I got to say about it.”

The police disagreed:

To which I replied, “It appears that the Wal*Mart crowd is interested in less effort, not so much hoisting the economy, as evidenced by this billboard.”

Americans think are taught that “effortless” is the path to happiness, when really it is the path to diabetes, hip and knee replacements, bankruptcy, no sex life, and MOAR DEBT!

Top 1% Own 39% Of All Global Wealth – Bottom 50% Only Own 1% Of All Global Wealth – 1 Billion People Go To Bed Hungry Every Night

Top 1% Own 39% Of All Global Wealth: Hoarding Soars As We Hurtle Toward Economic Oblivion (Economic Collapse, May 31, 2013):

According to a study that was just released by Boston Consulting Group, the wealthiest one percent now own 39 percent of all the wealth in the world.  Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent only own 1 percent of all the wealth in the world combined. The global financial system has been designed to funnel wealth to the very top, and the gap between the wealthy and the poor continues to expand at a frightening pace.  The global elite continue to hoard wealth and heap together enormous mountains of treasure in these troubled days even though the economic suffering around the planet continues to grow.  So exactly how have the global elite accumulated so much wealth?  Well, one of the primary ways is through the use of debt.  As I have written about previously, there is about 190 trillion dollars of debt in the world but global GDP is only about 70 trillion dollars.  Our debt-based global financial system systematically transfers wealth from us and our governments into the hands of the global elite.  And of course the gigantic banks and corporations that the elite control are constantly gobbling up everything of value that they can find: natural resources, profitable small businesses, real estate, politicians, etc.  Money, power, ownership and control are becoming very, very tightly concentrated at the top of the food chain, and that is a very dangerous thing for humanity.  When too much money and power gets into too few hands, it almost always results in tyranny.

What will eventually happen when the global elite have ALL the wealth?

40 Statistics About The Fall Of The U.S. Economy That Are Almost Too Crazy To Believe

40 Statistics About The Fall Of The U.S. Economy That Are Almost Too Crazy To Believe (Economic Collapse, May 26, 2013):

If you know someone that actually believes that the U.S. economy is in good shape, just show them the statistics in this article.  When you step back and look at the long-term trends, it is undeniable what is happening to us.  We are in the midst of a horrifying economic decline that is the result of decades of very bad decisions.  30 years ago, the U.S. national debt was about one trillion dollars.  Today, it is almost 17 trillion dollars.  40 years ago, the total amount of debt in the United States was about 2 trillion dollars.  Today, it is more than 56 trillion dollars.  At the same time that we have been running up all of this debt, our economic infrastructure and our ability to produce wealth has been absolutely gutted.  Since 2001, the United States has lost more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities and millions of good jobs have been shipped overseas.  Our share of global GDP declined from 31.8 percent in 2001 to 21.6 percent in 2011.  The percentage of Americans that are self-employed is at a record low, and the percentage of Americans that are dependent on the government is at a record high.  The U.S. economy is a complete and total mess, and it is time that we faced the truth.

The following are 40 statistics about the fall of the U.S. economy that are almost too crazy to believe…
