Iran Accuses German Siemens Of Sabotaging Its Nuclear Plant As Turkey Sends Heavy Weapons To Syria Border

Iran Accuses German Siemens Of Sabotaging Its Nuclear Plant As Turkey Sends Heavy Weapons To Syria Border (ZeroHedge, Sep 22, 2012):

It seems you can’t turn your back on the Middle East for more than a few minutes without something going bump in the desert. Sure enough, a few shorts hours after we reported that the leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards is certain war with Israel is coming, here comes Iran again with the stunning admission that none other than German industrial conglomerate, and occasional maker of nuclear power plants, Siemens was reponsible for “implanting tiny explosives inside equipment the Islamic Republic purchased for its disputed nuclear program. Prominent lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iranian security experts discovered the explosives and removed them before detonation, adding that authorities believe the booby-trapped equipment was sold to derail uranium enrichment efforts. “The equipment was supposed to explode after being put to work, in order to dismantle all our systems,” he said. “But the wisdom of our experts thwarted the enemy conspiracy.” Expert wisdom aside, what is stunning is not the ongoing attempts by everyone and the kitchen sink to terminally corrupt the Iranian nuclear power plant: after Stuxnet one would expect nothing less than every form of conventional and “new normal” espionage thrown into the pot to cripple the only peaceful argument Iran would have for demanding nuclear power, which by implication would mean that all ongoing nuclear pursuits are geared solely toward aggressive, military goals, of the type that demand immediate military retaliation by the democratic superpowers. No, what is stunning is the implicit admission that Germany’s, and Europe’s, largest electrical engineering company, has been not only quietly transacting with none other than world peace (as portrayed by the MSM) enemy #1, Iran, but instrumental in its nuclear program.

Obviously it took a Stuxnet second before Siemens denied everything and then some. Via Reuters:

Webster Tarpley: US-Turkey Alliance Against Syria, ‘Lethal Embrace’ (Video)

US-Turkey alliance against Syria, ‘lethal embrace’: Analyst (PressTV, Aug 25, 2012):

An analyst has warned that Turkey’s close alliance with the US and the West against the government of Syria would be “a lethal embrace” for Ankara, Press TV reports.

“They (Turkish authorities) have to understand that the alliance with the US and the British is a lethal embrace, in other words, the Anglo-Americans are going to love them to death,” Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley, author and historian from Washington, told Press TV on Friday.

Tarpley added that Ankara’s support of the Western-backed insurgents in Syria would also harm the national interests of the country in the future.

“They will play them against Syria, in the full knowledge that the blowback from that conflict is likely to destroy modern Turkey. So they should cease and desist, there is nothing to gain in this and everything to lose and it has a lot to do, I am afraid, with the psychology of Erdogan and Davutoglu, who have been, essentially, conned by Obama,” he said.

Since the onset of the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria, Turkey has actively played the CIA assigned role of arming, funding and supporting the anti-Syrian terrorists.

Turkey, along with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, has also set up a secret base near its border with Syria to send military supplies to the insurgents.

Preparing For A ‘Horrible Event’; The U.S. And Turkey Plan For Syria’s Collapse (NPR, Aug 11, 2012):

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu got straight to the point in their joint news conference Saturday. They announced the creation of a new working group that will monitor what’s happening next door in Syria and prepare for crises.

One of those crises could include the possibility that the Syrian government decides to deploy chemical weapons against rebels or other perceived enemies.

Clinton says the new U.S.-Turkish working group needs to be ready for anything, including “the horrible event” of possible chemical weapons use, according to The Associated Press. The new working group will coordinate responses to any chemical attack should it occur.

Should Obama And Congress Be Arrested Under The NDAA? (ZeroHedge, Aug 4, 2012):

Should President Obama (alongside Lindsay Graham and John McCain) be wearing an orange jumpsuit?

Welcome to the beautiful and surreal reality of life under American corporatism, under a Congress that churns out thousands  and thousands of pages of (often contradictory) legislation a year.

If providing material assistance to al-Qaeda is illegal under the National Defence Authorization Act (2012), and Obama and Congress are sending $25 million of aid to al-Qaeda-affiliated Syrian opposition, aren’t Congress and President Obama violating their own law? Should Obama (or at least the Justice Department) not be using “all necessary and appropriate force” including “the power to indefinitely detain” to prevent Obama and Congress from assisting al-Qaeda? Did anyone in Congress or the Obama administration even bother to read the law that they were signing? Do Federal laws no longer apply to lawmakers?

Reality Check: Is Al-Qaeda An Enemy Or Not?

The only question left from this abrupt and absurd turnaround — from funding bin Laden’s mujahideen thirty years ago, to ten years ago declaring war on al-Qaeda, to today sending them material assistance — would appear to be whether or not Obama will pull a 1984 and claim that “we have always been at war with Eurasia“.

Erdogan slams ‘murderous’ Assad, warns Damascus that rules of engagement have changed following downing of its jet

The Turkish military mobilized large numbers of reinforcements from its eastern provinces to the Syrian border on Tuesday, amid rising tension with Damascus, after the downing by Syria of a Turkish Air Force jet on Friday, Turkish media reported.

Large numbers of Turkish troops — including at least 15 long-range artillery pieces and tanks – moved to the Syrian frontier from the eastern city of Diyarbakir. A video published by the Turkish Cihan News Agency showed Turkish tanks being transported by carrier trucks toward the frontier.

Turkey Claims Syria Fired On Second Turkish Jet, Says “Act Won’t Go Unpunished”, Has Invoked NATO Articles 4 And 5 (ZeroHedge, June 25. 2012):

At this point even those who have never heard of the Gulf of Tonkin know where this is headed:

  • SYRIAN ACT ‘HOSTILE,’ ‘COLD-BLOODED,’ ARINC SAYS

And yet:

  • TURKISH JET ‘MISTAKENLY’ ENTERED SYRIAN AIRSPACE, ARINC SAYS
  • TURKISH JET WAS IN SYRIAN AIRSPACE ONLY 5 MINUTES, ARINC SAYS

Just the tip, eh?

And finally this, which makes it all too clear what Hillary Clinton’s endgame here is:

  • Turkish deputy PM says Syria has also fired on a Turkish search-and-rescue plane –AP

And from Reuters:

Turkey said on Monday that Syrian forces had fired at a second Turkish plane which was searching for an F-4 reconnaissance jet shot down by Syria last week, but the second plane was not brought down.

Deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc told a news conference that Turkey would protect itself, within the framework of international law, against what it called Syria’s “hostile action” of downing its warplane last week.

He said at the end of a seven-hour cabinet meeting on the incident that Syria’s downing of the reconnaissance jet would not go unpunished.

Was that jet over Syrian airspace for “only 5 minutes” too?

NATO Member Turkey Says Syrian Jet Take Down Is A Hostile Act, All 28 NATO Allies To Meet Tuesday Following Turkey’s Request

NATO Member Turkey Says Syrian Jet Take Down Is A Hostile Act (ZeroHedge, June 24, 2012):

Update: All 28 NATO Allies will meet Tuesday following Turkey’s request under article 4 of the Washington Treaty

And so the escalation-cum-provocation-cum false flag is complete. There was a time when shooting down a foreign jet over one’s territory was considered self-defense. But not when the one doing the defending is perpetual media bogeyman Syria, which “unnamed sources say” kills hundreds, nay thousands of its own people daily, usually in round, soundbitey numbers. Of course, the other side to the story is irrelevant: the Western-led media is never known to fabricate stories that suit the status quo’s power and military industrial complex interests. All that is relevant is for the west, aka NATO, aka Hillary Clinton to get an angle to push for provocation. She just got it. As we suspected on Friday, there was much more than met the eye with the Syrian take down of a Turkey F-4 jet. Remember what we said on Friday: “The only question remains whether Syria’s act was offensive or defensive. Naturally, its version is one of self-defense. Turkey obviously will claim it was in its right to be wherever the plane may be, and will say this was an act of provocation. Then NATO, read Hillary Clinton, will promptly step in, and make this a case in which Turkey was in its right and that Syria committed an act of aggression. From there, things will just escalate, and can potentially deteriorate to a far more troubling scale, because as we reminded earlier, Syria has recently become a major symbol for NATO vs the Russia-China axis.” And sure enough, just out from CNN: “Turkey declares jet shoot-down a ‘hostile’ act.”

More:

Turkey officially considers the shooting down of one of its military fighter jets by Syria to be a hostile act, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

Turkey delivered the message in a diplomatic note to the Syrian consulate in Istanbul, calling the incident “a hostile movement,” ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal told CNN.

Turkish search-and-rescue teams found the wreckage of the fighter jet in the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday, about 1,300 meters (4,260 feet) underwater, he said.

They have not reached the wreck yet, he added. There was no word about survivors of the two-man crew.

Syria shoots down Turkish warplane (ABC News, June 23, 2012):

Turkey’s government has held an emergency security meeting after one of its fighter jets was shot down by Syrian forces over the Mediterranean Sea.

The F-4 fighter jet disappeared off the radar just near the Syrian border.

Syria’s military says the aircraft was flying low, well inside Syrian territorial waters, when it was shot down.

“Our air defences confronted a target that penetrated our air space over our territorial waters pre-afternoon on Friday and shot it down. It turned out to be a Turkish military plane,” a statement by the military circulated on state media said.

With the second biggest army in NATO, a force hardened by nearly 30 years of fighting Kurdish rebels, Turkey would be a formidable foe for the Syrian army which is already struggling to put down a 16-month-old revolt.

Escalation: Syria Says Turkish Jet Shot Down Was Over Syrian Territorial Waters

Escalation: Syria Says Turkish Jet Shot Down Was Over Syrian Territorial Waters (ZeroHedge, June 22, 2012):

The “Syrianna” story from this afternoon, which many were quick to label as merely a lot of diplomatic hot air and rhetoric, just turned uglier, after Syria not only did not officially apologize as Turkey PM Erdogan implied had happened previously for the shot down Turkish F-4 fighter jet, but instead turned the tables on Turkey, and gave itself an out for what is now a definitive military action. From Reuters:

The Syrian military said it shot down a Turkish military aircraft “over Syrian territorial waters” on Friday.

Our air defences confronted a target that penetrated our air space over our territorial waters pre-afternoon on Friday and shot it down. It turned out to be a Turkish military plane,” a statement by the military circulated on state media said.

The only question remains whether Syria’s act was offensive or defensive. From there, things will just escalate, and can potentially deteriorate to a far more troubling scale, because as we reminded earlier, Syria has recently become a major symbol for NATO vs the Russia-China axis:

Here is the rub: Turkey is a NATO member, and by definition the alliance will have to come to Turkey’s aid if requested. Syria, however is not just any country as has been made quite clear over the past several months of UN impotence: it is a critical staging ground for both Russia (which has a very critical regional naval base in the city of Tartus) and China, and according to the Jerusalem Post, the three countries are in preparation to conduct the “largest ever” war game. As such Syria, already gripped by fierce local fighting, where just like in Egypt and Libya the presence of US-based flipflop on the ground can be smelt from across the Atlantic, is merely a symbol. The real implication is how far can little escalations push until finally the showdown begins, with NATO on one side and Russia and China on the other?

Ultimately, the key catalyst here may be something as simple as whether the pilot of the Turkish plane are alive or dead. BBC explains:

Iran Gold Imports Surge, Imported $1.2 Billion Of Precious Metals From Turkey in April Alone

Iran Gold Imports Surge – 1.2 Billion USD Of Precious Metals From Turkey in April Alone (ZeroHedge; June 5, 2012):

Turkish exports of gold, precious metals, pearls and coins to Iran rose to $1.2 billion in April from a tiny $7,500 a year earlier, according to figures released by the state statistics institute in Ankara yesterday.

This is a massive increase in demand and suggests that there may be official involvement in the imports from the Central Bank of Iran.

This trend continued in May when Turkish gold imports leapt by 150% in May due to unrelenting demand from sanction strapped Iran.

Turkey imported 19.47 tonnes of gold in May, up from 7.78 tonnes in April, according to data released by the Istanbul Gold Exchange on Friday.

Gold may not be ‘money‘ to the Chairman, but it sure is to Turkey. The WSJ reports that “The Turkish government, facing a bloated current-account deficit that threatens to derail the country’s rapid expansion, is trying to persuade Turks to transfer their vast personal holdings of gold into the country’s banking system.” The reason: “The push to tap into the individual gold reserves—the traditional form of savings here—is part of Ankara’s efforts to reduce a finance gap that is currently about 10% of gross domestic product.” In other words, “sequester” the population’s hard assets (politely of course), and convert these to paper to fund the country’s creditors, both foreign and domestic. Mostly foreign. In other words, Southeast Europe is slowing becoming the staging ground for the 21st century equivalent of Executive Order 6102, where first Greek, and now Turkish gold, is about to be pulled from point A to point B, where point B is some top secret vault deep under London.

How will Turkey spin gold confiscation in the politest of ways? The WSJ has details:

Former Turkish PM Mesut Yilmaz Admits: Turkish Secret Agents Intentionally Started Forest Fires In Greece

Former Turkish PM’s arson admission fuels anger (ekathimerini, Dec. 26, 2011):

Greek politicians reacted angrily on Monday following the admission by former Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz that Turkish secret agents intentionally started forest fires in Greece in the 1990s as part of state-sponsored sabotage.

The claims are not new and were common knowledge on the islands of the eastern Aegean which were particularly hard hit by wildfires in the 1990s. But Yilmaz’s comments — part of an interview published in the Turkish daily newspaper Birgun over the weekend — are the first admission by an official source that Ankara was funding subversive activities in Greece.

According to Yilmaz, who served as premier three times in the 1990s, agents of the Turkish secret service set fire to Greek forests during the leadership of his archrival Tansu Ciller, from 1995 to 1998. During that period major forest fires caused huge damage on the islands of the eastern Aegean and in Macedonia.

The news sparked political outrage Greece on Monday. Foreign Ministry spokesman Grigoris Delavekouras said the claims were “serious and must be investigated,” adding that Athens was awaiting a briefing from Ankara.

Turkey freezes all political relations with France over genocide row (Guardian, Dec. 22, 2011):

Recep Tayyip Erdogan recalls ambassador after Paris’s decision to prosecute people who deny killing of Armenians was genocide

Turkey has frozen relations with France, recalling its ambassador and suspending all economic, political and military meetings in response to French MPs’ approval of a law that would make it a crime to deny that the mass killing of Armenians in 1915 by Ottoman Turks was genocide.

The furious Turkish reaction to Paris’s parliamentary vote marked an unprecedented low between the Nato partners.

Turkey accuses France of genocide in Armenia row (Telegraph, Dec. 23, 2011):

The war of words between France and Turkey has escalated, when the Turkish premier accused Paris of committing genocide in Algeria and of stirring hatred of Muslims.

Furious that the French lower chamber had voted on Thursday to outlaw denial of the 1915 Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hit back directly at France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Earlier, Turkey’s ambassador to France had left Paris and Ankara had announced diplomatic sanctions – banning political visits between the countries – and frozen military ties between the nominal Nato allies.

“France massacred an estimated 15 per cent of the Algerian population starting from 1945. This is genocide,” Mr Erdogan said, accusing Mr Sarkozy of “fanning hatred of Muslims and Turks for electoral gains.”

Arab States, Turkey Plan ‘No-Fly Zone’ Over Syria, With US Coordinating The ‘Logistics’

Arab states, Turkey plan ‘No-Fly Zone’ over Syria (Al-Bawaba, ?Nov. 22, 2011?):

Senior European sources said that Arab jet fighters, and possibly Turkish warplanes, backed by American logistic support will implement a no fly zone in Syria’s skies, after the Arab League will issue a decision, under its Charter, calling for the protection of Syrian civilians.

The sources told Kuwait’s al Rai daily that the no fly ban will include a ban on the movement of Syrian military vehicles, including tanks, personnel carriers and artillery, adding that this move would aim at curbing the movement of Assad forces, and cripple their ability to bomb cities. The European sources said the no fly ban might lead to the paralysis of the Syrian regime forces “in less than 24 hours.”

Meanwhile, it is reported that the leadership of the Turkish General Staff informed all the concerned parties with the Syrian issue its rejection of the idea that the Turkish army would launch any invasion to the Syrian territory including the area adjacent to the Turkish border to establish a “buffer zone” to protect civilians fleeing the violence.

Plan for No Fly Zone Over Syria (Arutz Sheva, Nov. 23, 2011):

Europaen sources in Washington confirm that there are plans for a no fly zone to be imposed on Syria by Arab and Turkish warplanes, with the US coordinating the logistics. According to the report, Israel will not respond if Syrian missiles are launched. the Arab Jets will prevent the Syrian security forces from attacking civilians, and will enable the Free Syrian rebel Army of defectors to assemble and plan their offensives.

Arab League Fed Up With Syrian Violence (Spiegel Online, Nov. 22, 2011?):

The Assad regime also has a strong ally in Russia. Although Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with a delegation of the opposition Syrian National Council last Tuesday, the criticism he voiced two days later was not directed at the regime, but at the opposition. The attack on the intelligence base near Damascus was an act of “civil war,” Lavrov said. He also warned the insurgents and the West against forging “plans for acts of war.”

An insurgent army which claims to be up to 15,000 strong is being coordinated from Turkey to take on President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which risks plunging the region into open warfare.

The national “Syrian Free Army” aims to be the “military wing of the Syrian people’s opposition to the regime”, its leader told The Daily Telegraph from a heavily guarded camp in eastern Turkey.

Confirmation of an armed force operating with the covert approval of the Turkish authorities follows evidence that attacks inside Syria are causing high levels of casualties in the security forces. It also shows the anger of Recep Tayipp Erdogan, the Turkish premier, with Mr Assad, a former ally whose failed promises of reform have caused a deep rift.

“We are the future army of the new Syria. We are not in league with any particular sect, religion or political party. We believe in protecting all elements of Syrian society,” the Army’s leader, Col Riad al-Assad, said.

Turkey’s Top 4 Military Chiefs Quit Ahead Of Key Meeting

Turkey’s military chiefs quit ahead of key meeting (Reuters, July 29, 2011):

Turkey said on Friday its top four military chiefs were all seeking retirement, in moves that appeared to reflect a deep rift between the secularist military and a government with roots in political Islam.

State-run Anatolian news agency said the head of the armed forces General Isik Kosaner and the commanders of the ground, naval and air forces were all stepping down, in what some Turkish media initially described as resignations.

The reason for the generals’ move was not immediately clear, but tensions between the military and the government of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan have run high in recent years.
