Those people that knock on your door to install those smart meters will if you refuse to let them in probably try to intimidate and threaten you, so that you give in and let them install your worst health nightmare.

They might even threaten to turn off electricity, but don’t be scared, because they know that they will lose in court in case they really turn off the juice.

Several people have already written letters to those corporations and  made their point clear and the corporations have immediately stopped using their scare tactics.

Most important: DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!

Public Health Physician Warns of Smart Meter Dangers, Stresses Need for Analog Option

Smart meters: public health nightmare or public utility boon? (Activist Post, July 15, 2011):

Like a lot of things, so-called “smart meters” seem quite reasonable and even beneficial at first glance, but once one starts going through the facts with a fine-tooth comb, they don’t seem quite so laudable.

What exactly is questionable about these devices, and what, if any, danger do they pose to the American people?

AND NOW … TEPCO Plans For IMPOSSIBLE Cold Shutdown By January!

TEPCO’s ‘Cold Shutdown’ Lie And What They ‘Forgot’ To Tell You About Fukushima:

TEPCO says they are planning a “cold shutdown” of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plants in 6 to 9 months.

Cold shutdown means the reactor cores – and the used fuel pools – decrease in temperature through 100 degrees C and continue to go down after a couple of days without additional cooling.  If that doesn’t happen within 48 hours, it isn’t going to.  E-V-E-R. The reactors are still ‘in service’ – which means the fuel is still reacting.  It hasn’t happened at Fukushima and it never will.

Tepco plans for cold shutdown by January (Japan Times, July 20, 2011):

The government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Tuesday they have successfully achieved consistent and stable cooling of the reactors at the Fukushima No. 1 plant and will by mid-January reduce the amount of radioactive materials being released.

They also said some evacuated residents may be able to return home after “Step 2” is completed.

With “Step 1” — stable cooling of the reactors — complete, Tepco said it will now try to bring them into a state of cold shutdown.

Arnie Gundersen: Well, I am in touch with some scientists now who have been monitoring the air on the West Coast and in Seattle for instance, in April, the average person in Seattle breathed in 10 hot particles a day.

High Level of Plutonium Rumored to Have Been Detected in Rice Paddies 50 Kilomters from Fukushima I Nuke Plant (EX-SKF, July 15, 2011):

An old “baseless rumor” (back in May) that no MSM mentioned (not even to refute it), although bloggers cited the passage. But as the rice grows in the rice paddies in Kanto and Tohoku and more and more cows are found radioactive because what they ate was highly radioactive (rice hay), it may be worth keeping it in mind, just in case.

As far as I’ve checked, the report has never been “proven”, but never been “disproven” either.

Also, keep in mind the warning of Professor Toshiso Kosako, that there will be “a chaos” in the fall harvest season.

From the report that appeared on Japan Business Press on May 14 (the report was from their free subscription part of the site, written by Satoshi Kawashima, the former editor of Nikkei Business and the founder of Japan Business Press):

According to the private survey by a food company, an extremely high level of radiation, order of magnitude higher than what the government has been reporting, has been detected in the soil in the rice paddy more than 50 kilometers away from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant.

The food company says it is withholding the information for now because it may cause panic, but it says the survey has also found a high level of plutonium in the same rice paddy soil.

There has been no follow-up to this report. Back in May, almost all tweets on the subject in Japan were from people who outright dismissed the report as “baseless rumor” and criticized Japan Business Press for fear-mongering. “There’s no way plutonium can travel outside the Fukushima plant!” was one typical tweet. (Never mind it did.) “They are manufacturing the story” was another.

Ah. Trust your government.

Human Genome Contains A Million Years Worth Of Population Data

The human genome contains a million years worth of population data (io9, Jul 13, 2011):

Our genes don’t just help determine who we are — they also preserve an incredibly ancient record of who our ancestors were. Our genomes can actually reveal human population sizes dating all the way back to before humans even existed.

Richard Durbin of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Heng Li of the Broad Institute examined the handful of complete human genome sequences. Specifically, they examined how the differences between how particular genes from mothers and fathers were expressed — many differences in gene expression would suggest the family lines diverged a long time ago, while relatively few differences would indicate the two were closely related in the recent past.

Li goes further into just how this all works:

“This elegant tool provides opportunities for further research to enable us to learn more about population history,” says co-author Heng Li, from the Sanger Institute. “Each human genome contains information from the mother and the father, and the differences between these at any place in the genome carry information about its history. Since the genome sequence is so large, we can combine the information from tens of thousands of different places in the genome to build up a composite history of the ancestral contributions to the particular individual who was sequenced.”

Durbin explains some of the more remarkable findings of this genomic archaeology:

Breakthrough: Scientists Grow Full Set Of Teeth From Stem Cells

Science with real bite: Full set of teeth grown in the lab (Daily Mail, July 13 2011):

Scientists have grown fully formed teeth from stem cells.

The artificial teeth looked like the real thing, were sensitive to pain and could chew food.

The breakthrough was made on mice but could pave the way for those who lose teeth to decay or injury being able to ‘grow’ replacements.

The researchers harnessed the power of stem cells – ‘master cells’ which have the potential to be used to grow any part of the body – to generate teeth.

Chief Nuclear Engineer Arnie Gundersen: Why Fukushima Can Happen In The US: What the NRC and Nuclear Industry Dont Want You to Know

Why Fukushima Can Happen Here: What the NRC and Nuclear Industry Dont Want You to Know from Fairewinds Associates on Vimeo.

The well-known safety flaws of Mark 1 Boiling Water Reactors have gained significant attention in the wake of the four reactor accidents at Fukushima, but a more insidious danger lurks. In this video nuclear engineers Arnie Gundersen and David Lochbaum discuss how the US regulators and regulatory process have left Americans unprotected. They walk, step-by-step, through the events of the Japanese meltdowns and consider how the knowledge gained from Fukushima applies to the nuclear industry worldwide. They discuss “points of vulnerability” in American plants, some of which have been unaddressed by the NRC for three decades. Finally, they concluded that an accident with the consequences of Fukushima could happen in the US.

With more radioactive Cesium in the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant’s spent fuel pool than was released by Fukushima, Chernobyl, and all nuclear bomb testing combined, Gundersen and Lockbaum ask why there is not a single procedure in place to deal with a crisis in the fuel pool? These and more safety questions are discussed in this forum presented by the C-10 Foundation at the Boston Public Library. Special thanks to Herb Moyer for the excellent video and Geoff Sutton for the frame-by-frame graphics of the Unit 3 explosion.
