On Wednesday, his attorneys urged a federal judge to spare him prison time for health reasons and because he is “deeply sorry.”
Prosecutors have recommended a prison term of no more than six months in exchange for Hastert’s guilty plea.
Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, convicted last year of a financial crime in a hush-money case, had agreed to pay $3.5 million to buy the silence of an individual who he sexually abused when the victim was a teenager, federal prosecutors said on Friday.
It was the first time that prosecutors, in a new court filing, had said that Hastert had been extorted to keep quiet allegations he sexually abused a 14-year-old victim decades ago.
A German state minister allegedly tried to pressure police in Cologne to remove the word rape from reports about the mass sexual assaults committed by asylum seekers on New Year’s Eve.
Cologne’s Express newspaper claimed that the interior ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia pressured a senior police officer to delete ‘rape’ from an internal report issued on January 1.
‘KHK told me that the state control centre wanted the report cancelled and the expression “rape” deleted,’ read a document written by another police officer which was printed by the Express.

As a direct result of Europe’s refugee crisis, new and very unpleasant social fractures have started to emerge.
One particularly troubling issue is the extent to which officials have tended to “blame the victim” in the ever more frequent sex attacks resulting from Europe’s refugee surge, something we first touched upon earlier this week. For instance, Cologne mayor Henriette Reker drew sharp criticism for suggesting that it was German womens’ duty to prevent assaults by keeping would-be assailants “at arm’s length.”
Then there was the now infamous case of the 17-year-old Danish girl who faced a fine from police after she allegedly used “illegal” pepper spray to deter an attacker.
Three men from Syria, and one from Iraq have been charged in court for their part in a gang rape in Helsinki railway station in November last year. Three of the men are described as being in their twenties while a fourth is around 40 years old. The victim is described as being a female “young adult”, reports Svenska.

But first, let’s examine why women all over Europe are living in such fear right now. I have written previously about this rape epidemic, but since that time it has gotten even worse. At this point, this plague is even affecting small towns in the far northern portions of the continent. For example, just consider what is happening in a small town in northern Sweden known as Ostersund…
