Grandfather, 78, Beats ‘Incurable’ Cancer By Changing Diet From Red Meat And Dairy Products To Fruits, Vegetables And Herbal Remedies

Mr Taylor, a retired oil rig engineer from Middlesbrough, replaced red meat and dairy products with 10 portions of raw fruit and veg each day.

His diet included powdered grass, curry spices, apricot seeds and selenium tablets.

He believes that having a teaspoon of powdered barley grass in hot water every morning and night was particularly crucial.

Food Shortages Could Force World Into Vegetarianism, Warn Scientists

Food shortages could force world into vegetarianism, warn scientists (Guardian, supported by BILL & MELINDA GATES Foundation, Aug 26, 2012):

Leading water scientists have issued one of the sternest warnings yet about global food supplies, saying that the world’s population may have to switch almost completely to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid catastrophic shortages.

Humans derive about 20% of their protein from animal-based products now, but this may need to drop to just 5% to feed the extra 2 billion people expected to be alive by 2050, according to research by some of the world’s leading water scientists.

“There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations,” the report by Malik Falkenmark and colleagues at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) said.

“There will be just enough water if the proportion of animal-based foods is limited to 5% of total calories and considerable regional water deficits can be met by a … reliable system of food trade.”

Feds Close California Slaughterhouse After Abuse Video

Feds close Calif. slaughterhouse after abuse video (AP, Aug 21, 2012):

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Federal regulators shut down a Central California slaughterhouse Monday after receiving undercover video showing dairy cows — some unable to walk — being repeatedly shocked and shot before being slaughtered.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which inspects meat facilities, suspended operations at Central Valley Meat Co. in Hanford, Calif., which slaughters cows when they lose their value as milk producers.

The USDA received hours of videotape Friday from Compassion Over Killing, an animal welfare group, which said its undercover investigator was employed by the slaughterhouse and made the video over a two-week period in June.

“USDA considers inhumane treatment of animals at slaughter facilities to be unacceptable and is conducting a thorough investigation into these allegations,” said Justin DeJong, spokesman for the Food Safety Inspection Service.

Four minutes of excerpts the animal welfare group provided to The Associated Press showed cows being prepared for slaughter. One worker appears to be suffocating a cow by standing on its muzzle after a gun that injects a bolt into the animal’s head had failed to render it unconscious. In another clip, a cow is still conscious and flailing as a conveyor lifts it by one leg for transport to an area where the animals’ throats are slit for blood draining.

“The horror caught on camera is sickening,” said Erica Meier, executive director of Compassion Over Killing, based in Washington, D.C. “It’s alarming that this is not only a USDA-inspected facility but a supplier to the USDA.”

US Halts Shipments Of Japanese Beef Over Fears Of Radioactive Contamination (Video)

NHK: US halts shipments of Japanese beef due to concerns of radioactive contamination from Fukushima disaster (VIDEO) (ENENews, Aug 17, 2012):

Title: Japanese beef exports to US postponed
Source: NHK WORLD English
Date: Aug. 17, 2012

Japan has been forced to put off resuming beef exports to the United States at the last minute, due to US concerns about effects of last year’s nuclear accident.

Shipments were due to resume on Saturday starting with cattle processed that day.

Japanese beef exports to the United States had been suspended for over two years after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the southwestern prefecture of Miyazaki.

But Japanese officials say the US side requested a halt on Thursday, saying it wanted to check how Japan is inspecting beef and managing feed to prevent radioactive contamination.

Factory Farms Produce 100 Times More Waste Than U.S. Population

And if those factories would have to pay for all the ‘externalities’, which they are continuously dumping on the US taxpayer, then organic meat would suddenly look like a bargain.

Factory Farms Produce 100 Times More Waste than U.S. Population (Nateral Society, May 29, 2012):

If you thought you were a major contributor to pollution, just wait until you hear this. Factory farms produce 100 times more waste than every single person in the United States combined. The amount of waste produced by these factories is in such mass quantities that it is virtually impossible to clean up properly. Much of this waste is dumped into the water supply, drastically increasing overall water pollution as well as contributing to the pollution found in drinking water.

Back in 2008 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made a decision that affected many factory farms. They stated that any confined animal feeding operation (CAFO), also known as factory farms, “designed, constructed, operated, and maintained in a manner such that the CAFO will discharge” animal waste must apply for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit under the Clean Water Act. The livestock industry ridiculed this notion.

Food Producers Fear ‘Meat Glue’ Use Will Spark Public Outrage After ‘Pink Slime’ Wake-Up Call

Flashback:

Nationwide Health Scandal: Meat Glue The Meat Industry’s ‘Dirty Little Secret’ Exposed

Food producers fear ‘meat glue’ use will spark public panic after ‘pink slime’ debate (Daily Mail, May 9, 2012):

Meat processors are rushing to quell fears about another kitchen trick that may leave consumers wary of their next steak.

A recent expose about the use of ‘meat glue’, a powder substance that connects small pieces of sometimes lesser-quality meat together before repackaging it and pawning it off as a proper fillet mignon, has industry insiders fearful of more consumer outrage following the ‘pink slime’ debate.

‘Someone gave it a catchy name, so now it’s catching on,’ Jeremy Russell, a spokesman for the National Meat Association told Bloomberg News in response to the  questions being raised about the use of the powder, called transglutaminase.

The so-called ‘meat glue’ has been used in American restaurants and the kitchens of banquet halls for decades, is USDA-approved and considered safe for the diner.

Mad Cow Disease May Infect Through Milk Despite USDA Claims

Mad Cow Disease May Infect Through Milk Despite USDA Claims (Natural Society, April 27, 2012):

Following the latest confirmed case of mad cow disease in California, the USDA and the dairy industry alike are struggling to assure consumers that drinking affected milk poses no serious risk to your health. Despite these warnings, some scientists have found research that points to the contrary. In fact, two large studies found that prions — pathogenic agents associated with mad cow disease and other life-threatening conditions — can actually transfer from animal to animal via milk consumption.

One such study, performed by a conglomerate of French, Norwegian, and British researchers, actually observed the presence of prions in sheep milk – the very prions that the USDA says cannot inhabit US dairy. Shockingly, this peer-reviewed study was published back in 2008 in the journal PLoS Pathogens. Why has the USDA not spoken of this study, or even the second study that reached similar conclusions? In case you’re unsure, let’s examine an excerpt from the study authors:

This finding indicates that milk from small ruminants could contribute to the transmission of prion disease between animals. It also raises some concern with regard to the risk to humans associated with milk products from ovine and other dairy species.

AND NOW: ‘New Happiness In Japan’ – ‘Let’s Eat Cesium Beef’ Event: Parents Bring Their Children Sit Down And Knowingly Eat Radioactive Beef From Iwate

#Radioactive Japan: People Invited to Eat Cesium Beef from Iwate (EX-SKF, April 25, 2012):

This is the copy of the printed version of Fukushima Minpo on April 25, 2012, a local newspaper in Fukushima:

The reporter signs off as “Kyodo News”, but reading the postscript part of the article it is clear that this is the original Fukushima Minpo article. It was probably fed to Kyodo News, as Fukushima Minpo is a member of Kyodo News.

What does it say?

The series title in the upper right corner: “New Happiness in Japan – Measure”

The article title in the middle: “Think what “food safety” means”

The subtitle of the article: “Cesium beef offered at an event”

From this information, if you conjure up the image of the gist of the article as “OK, the happiness in Japan in post-Fukushima is to gladly eat beef known to contain radioactive cesium to help producers as long as it is measured and disclosed properly, and that’s food safety”, I’ll give you an A.

Quick translation (main article only, subject to revision later, maybe):

It was quiet in the office district on Sunday. It was March 11 afternoon, one year anniversary of the disaster. Couples with children, middle-aged men in jeans were entering a 12-story public building off the busy streets in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

On the tables in the kitchen that is used for cooking classes were the plates with hamburgers just cooked. Mitsuhiro Anada (age 40) told the people in the kitchen, These contain 6 becquerels/kg [of radioactive cesium]. Please let me know if you don’t want to eat them. We have also prepared cesium-free ones.” About 30 people then sat at the table and started to eat.

Mr. Anada is the head of “Mo-ton Family”, a meat processing company located in the northern Iwate. The event, “Let’s eat cesium beef” came about after calling the customers who buy ham, hamburger meat and sausages from his company by mail order.

The main dishes are the hamburgers and beef stew made from the beef that had been detected with radioactive cesium. Both dishes tested far below the provisional safety limit (500 becquerels/kg [it was still the provisional safety limit in March this year]).

I wanted the consumers to think about what “food safety” means, by showing the number [of radioactive cesium measurement] and having them eat [the meat], said Anada when asked why he held this event.

Radioactive Japan: Several Food Items Exceed New Safety Limit Of 100Bq/Kg

And that is only cesium!

#Radioactive Japan: Food Items Exceeding New Safety Limit (100Bq/Kg) (EX-SKF, April 5, 2012):

Farmers in contaminated areas in Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, and Chiba continue to farm, and the government is busy setting up one PR campaign after another to appeal safety of things produced in Japan. The media do report, but unless your information comes from the net only, the news gets buried in the cacophony of mind-numbing small news of no significance on TV and print media.

Here’s the list of food items that I found which exceeded the new safety limit of 100 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium:

Pink slime factories shuttered after massive public backlash (Natural News, Mar 29, 2012):

For several decades now, the conventional beef industry has secretly been lacing ground beef products with an industrial, ammonia-laced byproduct known as “pink slime,” a disturbing fact that recently came to the forefront of national attention after Food Network chef Jamie Oliver first drew attention to its existence. And consumer backlash has been so strong ever since that a number of supermarket chains, restaurants, and even schools have decided to stop supplying it, which has caused its primary producer, Beef Products Inc. (BPI), to close three of its four manufacturing plants.

USA Today and others are reporting that Dakota Dunes, South Dakota-based BPI is temporarily closing its Waterloo, Iowa; Garden City, Kansas; and Amarillo, Texas plants for an indefinite period of time as a result of widespread consumer rejection of pink slime products. Workers at these plants will continue to receive pay and benefits for the next 60 days, but it is unclear what will happen after these next two months expire, should the plants continue to remain closed.

Meanwhile, BPI is launching an aggressive public relations campaign to fight back against its critics, which includes claiming that pink slime is “100 percent beef,” and that it is a highly-nutritious and safe product. And many in the media are jumping onboard this propaganda bandwagon by spinning the situation back against consumers, who are technically victims that have been been duped all these years into buying ground beef products that were secretly adulterated with pink slime.

Hong Kong To Resume Import Of Meat, Eggs From FUKUSHIMA And Other Affected Areas

Hong Kong to Resume Import of Meat, Eggs from Fukushima and Other Affected Areas (EX-SKF, March 23, 2012):

Hong Kong will resume importing the meat and eggs from Fukushima Prefecture and 4 other prefectures in Kanto most affected by the nuclear fallout.

Why? Because there will be an official government piece of paper accompanying the meat, attesting the safety from radiation contamination. Bureaucrats will be bureaucrats, whether it’s Japan or Hong Kong. Formality is all that matters.

From Yomiuri Shinbun (3/23/2012):

東京電力福島第一原子力発電所事故の影響で香港への輸出が規制されている福島県など5県産の食肉と卵の輸出が再開される見通しとなった。

Export of meat and eggs to Hong Kong from 5 prefectures including Fukushima will resume shortly. The export was halted after the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant accident.

鹿野農相が23日の閣議後記者会見で明らかにした。輸出に必要な検査証明書の書式が決まったためで、今後1週間程度の手続きを経て再開される。

Minister of Agriculture Kano disclosed the news during the press conference after the cabinet meeting on March 23. The format of the inspection certificate has been agreed upon, and the export will resume in about one week.

日本の農林水産物の香港向け輸出額は1111億円(2011年)と全体の約4分の1を占め、国・地域別で最も多い。香港への輸出再開は、同様の理由で輸入を規制している中国の判断にも影響を与えそうだ。

Hong Kong is the largest market for Japanese agricultural and marine products. In 2011, the amount was 111.1 billion yen, one-quarter of the total export. Resumption of export to Hong Kong may affect the decision by China, who has halted import from Japan for the same reason.

70% Of All Ground Beef Contains ‘Pink Slime’ … And USDA Bought 7 Million Pounds Of The Stuff For School Lunches

And coincidentally 70% of US public drinking water is FLUORIDATED used by Hilter and Stalin in the concentration camps and gulags to make people docile (and infertile)!

(Fluoride also causes cancer, tooth decay (which is the opposite of what people have been told it does), brittle bones and leads to the calcification of the pineal gland, which is the end of people’s spiritual life, turning them into complete zombies.)

Because what we need are ‘obedient workers’:

“Pink slime,” a cheap meat filler, is in 70 percent of the ground beef sold at supermarkets and up to 25 percent of each American hamburger patty, by some estimates.

The USDA just bought 7 million pounds of pink slime to add to school lunches (up from 5.5 million pounds in 2009).

Jamie Oliver gave a must-watch demonstration on the subject a year ago:

But at least we know where the real meat part of ground beef comes from … right?

Nope … the World Trade Organization struck down American laws requiring labeling of beef to disclose the country of origin:

But at least beef is being tested for horrible diseases like mad cow disease, right?

Negatory: the government does very little testing … and prohibits private citizens such as ranchers or meat packers from testing it themselves.

What Should We Do?

So what’s the answer?

11 Shocking Things You Now Realize To Be True (But You Never Would Have Believed Just Three Years Ago)

11 shocking things you now realize to be true (but you never would have believed just three years ago) (NaturalNews, Nov. 11, 2011):

We are living through a time of great awakening. The people of our world are beginning to open their eyes and realize the stunning depth of the scams and collusion taking place all around them. These scams that steal their wealth, poison them with chemicals, enslave them with financial trickery and control their minds with propaganda. These scams are the very fabric of modern government, the mainstream media, universities and so-called “science” institutions.

Here are 11 of those scams that you probably never would have believed just 2-3 years ago; but now you probably realize these are true!

Welcome to the real world, my friends. Now that we recognize the depth of the scams, let’s change things for the better. (Occupy America!)

#1 – Most of the honey you buy in the grocery store contains no actual honey whatsoever

It’s true, the so-called “honey” isn’t even technically honey. Most of it is made of cheap “mystery” sweeteners, illegally imported from China, right under the nose of the FDA.

http://www.naturalnews.com/034102_h…

#2 – The fluoride that’s dripped into municipal water supplies is actually a highly toxic industrial chemical byproduct

This scam is exploding in the faces of all the ignorant dentists and doctors who have been pushing this poison for years. Once again, they were wrong; the “conspiracy theorists” were right.

http://www.naturalnews.com/031602_f…

#3 – Flu vaccines often contain live flu viruses and actually cause the flu as a way to worsen the flu season and scare more people into buying vaccines

It’s also true with MMR vaccines, which cause the measles. Flu vaccines are the greatest medical hoax that has ever been perpetrated on the world:

#4 – Ron Paul is deliberately stripped out of mainstream news reports, online polls and debate coverage in order to “game the system” against him

The power elite don’t really want “fair and open” elections in America, you see. It’s all about rigging the system to make sure a globalist puppet gets elected instead of a Man of the People.

#5 – The United States government openly trafficks illegal guns into Mexico as a way to cause gun violence in the USA

It all seemed so very clever until they got caught, and now it just seems flatly criminal. So why can the federal government run illegal guns and nothing happens to them, but if you or I do it, we go to prison for a long, long time?

Petri Dish To Dinner Plate, In-Vitro Meat Coming Soon

Petri dish to dinner plate, in-vitro meat coming soon (Reuters, Nov. 11, 2011):

LONDON – Scientists are cooking up new ways of satisfying the world’s ever-growing hunger for meat.

“Cultured meat” — burgers or sausages grown in laboratory Petri dishes rather than made from slaughtered livestock — could be the answer that feeds the world, saves the environment and spares the lives of millions of animals, they say.

Granted, it may take a while to catch on. And it won’t be cheap.

The first lab-grown hamburger will cost around 250,000 euros ($345,000) to produce, according to Mark Post, a vascular biologist at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, who hopes to unveil such a delicacy soon.

Ocean Absorbed 79 Percent Of Fukushima Fallout – ‘High Concentrations’ Reached North America And Europe (Forbes, Oct. 29, 2011)

The article/paper of the European Geosciences Union …

Xenon-133 and caesium-137 releases into the atmosphere from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant: determination of the source term, atmospheric dispersion, and deposition

… appears to have been changed.

Ocean Absorbed 79 Percent Of Fukushima Fallout (Forbes, Oct. 29, 2011):

About 19 percent of airborne fallout from the Fukushima nuclear disaster was deposited in Japan, and only about 2 percent made it to other land areas in Asia and North America, according to a study published this week by the European Geosciences Union. The bulk was absorbed by the Pacific Ocean.

Opponents of nuclear energy have seized on the European study because it describes the total release at Fukushima as “massive.” It finds that twice as much cesium 137 was released at Fukushima than originally reported.

And it says “high concentrations” reached North America and Europe.

4,000 Potentially Radioactive Cows Shipped from One Farm in Namie-Machi, Fukushima

4,000 Potentially Radioactive Cows Without Radioactive Rice Hay May Have Been Shipped from One Farm in Namie-Machi, Fukushima (EX-SKF, Aug 20, 2011):

Radioactive beef from Fukushima meat cows (then Miyagi, then Iwate, then…) was first in the news in early July. Then, the culprit was very quickly identified as radioactive rice hay that was stored outside when Fukushima I Nuke Plant started to spew out radioactive materials.

First they said the rice hay was fed to the cows because there was nothing else to feed due to supply disruption after the March 11 earthquake. Then it turned out that rice hay was integral part of fattening the meat cows before they were sold to the market.

Then the news broke on August 19 that some meat cows from Fukushima were highly radioactive even without radioactive rice hay.

And then it turns out that 4,000 such cows may have been shipped from one cattle farm in Namie-machi alone since the accident. The radiation level on the farm is high, as you can read in the Kahoku Shinpo article below.

Well, that instantly doubles the number of meat cows potentially contaminated with radioactive cesium. I say potentially, because most of the meat has been consumed already and there’s no way to test it.

From Kahoku Shinpo, local Fukushima paper (8/21/2011):

福島県浪江町の農場から出荷された肉牛4頭の肉から国の暫定基準値(1キログラム当たり500ベクレル) を超える放射性セシウムが検出された問題で、福島県は20日、同じ農場の牛5頭の肉も基準値を超えていたことを明らかにした。浪江町の農場からは、福島第 1原発事故後の3月15日~4月19日、汚染された9頭を含め計229頭が横浜市に出荷されていた。

Regarding the 4 meat cows from a cattle farm in Namie-machi in Fukushima Prefecture that exceeded the provisional safety limit for radioactive cesium (500 becquerels/kg), the Fukushima prefectural government disclosed on August 5 that the meat from 5 additional cows from the same farm contained radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional safety limit. From this farm in Namie-machi, total 229 cows including the 9 that were contaminated were shipped to Yokohama City between March 15 and April 19.

2,200 Becquerels Per Kg Radioactive Cesium Detected In Boar Meat In Miyagi Prefecture

Radioactive cesium detected in boar meat in Miyagi Pref. (Mainichi Japan, August 20, 2011):

SENDAI (Kyodo) — Radioactive cesium at a level over four times the government-set safety limit has been detected in the meat of a wild boar captured in Kakuda city, Miyagi Prefecture, the prefectural government said Friday.

It is the first time that radioactive contamination exceeding the safety limit was found in a wild animal or bird in the northeastern Japanese prefecture, local officials said, adding they will ask people in the prefecture not to eat meat of wild animals and birds for the time being.

High Level Radioactive Cesium In Manure From Radioactive Fukushima Cows, Pigs That Have Been Sold To Farmers All Over Japan

#Radioactive Manure from Cows Bought from Fukushima (EX-SKF, August 19, 2011):

Shimane Prefecture, in Chugoku region, announced that a high level of radioactive cesium has been detected from manure from the cows purchased from Fukushima Prefecture in May and June.

They were not fed with radioactive rice hey.

Some people in Japan suspected from the beginning when the meat cows from Fukushima were found with radioactive cesium that it was not just from the feed but from air and water. They were dismissed by the government officials who insisted the problem was just the radioactive rice hay.

Both the national government and the Fukushima prefectural government encouraged the cattle farmers in the evacuation zones in Fukushima to sell their cows and pigs to cattle farmers outside Fukushima, and many farmers bought them. Now they are being raised all over Japan.

From Asahi Shinbun (5:00AM JST 8/20/2011):

島根県は19日、福島県内の牛を5~6月に購入した農家15戸のうち2戸の堆肥(たいひ)から放射性セシ ウムを検出、1戸は国の暫定基準値(1キロあたり400ベクレル)を超えていたと発表した。これらの牛と排泄(はいせつ)物について農林水産省は、福島県 への調査などを踏まえ、牛の移動と出荷を認める通知を島根県に出していた。

Shimane Prefecture announced on August 19 that radioactive cesium was detected at two cattle farms out of 15 that had purchased meat cows from Fukushima Prefecture in May and June. At one of the farms, the level exceeded the provisional safety limit (400 becquerels/kg). The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries had issued a notice earlier to Shimane Prefecture that it was free to move and ship meat cows, based on the survey results from Fukushima Prefecture.

Radioactive Beef Conundrum: High Level Cesium Detected from Beef NOT Fed with Radioactive Rice Hay

#Radioactive Beef Conundrum: High Level Cesium Detected from Beef Not Fed with Radioactive Rice Hay (EX-SKF, August 18, 2011):

Oops. There goes the lifting of the shipping ban for Fukushima.

So where did the cow get the dose of radioactive cesium? Air? Water? No one knows, because everyone in the government and the producers have been looking only at radioactive rice hay.

From NHK News Japanese (2:17PM JST 8/19/2011):

厚生労働省によりますと、福島県産の牛の肉から国の暫定基準値を超える放射性セシウムが検出されたことが 分かりました。この牛肉は、食肉処理場に保管されていたということで、これまでの調査では、高濃度の放射性セシウムを含む稲わらは餌として与えられていな かったとみられるということです。政府は福島県の肉牛について、19日、出荷停止を解除する予定でしたが、出荷停止を当面継続するとともに、さらに詳しい 調査を行うよう福島県に指示しました。

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, radioactive cesium in the amount exceeding the national provisional limit has been detected from the beef from a cow raised in Fukushima Prefecture. This meat has been stored at a meat processing facility, and according to the investigation so far the cow was never fed the radioactive rice hay. The national government was going to lift the shipping ban on meat cows in Fukushima Prefecture today (August 19) but instead has instructed the Fukushima prefectural government to continue to halt shipping for the time being and conduct further investigation.

On a separate piece of news (link in Japanese), the manure made from chicken poop mixed with dead leaves and sawdust in Tama district of Tokyo (west) has been found to contain 890 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium. I hope it is from dead leaves or sawdust, and not from chickens. Chickens are fed with the chicken feed from the US, and they are raised indoors.

Japan Government To Lift Ban On Sales And Shipment Of Radioactive Fukushima Beef

Japan: Radioactive Beef Served in 296 Schools in 12 Prefectures

Japanese Government Will Lift Shipping Ban on Cows from Fukushima and Miyagi (Hello #Radioactive Beef Again) (EX-SKF, Thursday, August 18, 2011):

Nothing coming out of Japan makes sense any more, so this news is simply adding to that growing list.

The national government will lift the ban on sales and shipment of meat cows raised in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures because the government is satisfied that the radioactive rice hay is now separated from other feed – either under the tarp or buried – so that it will not be fed to the cows.

If I remember right, the worry was not the rice hay but the meat itself, which tested high in radioactive cesium all over Japan as the cows from these two prefectures (and several more in Tohoku) had been sold far and wide because of the suddenly “affordable” price. They were particularly favored by certain cost-conscious municipalities (most notably Yokohama City) that fed the suspected meat to the kindergarteners and school children in school lunches, ignoring protests from the parents.

Humans eat beef not rice hay, as far as I know. But now the ban will be lifted because of … rice hay storage procedure?

From Mainichi Shinbun (8/18/2011):

The Japanese government started to prepare for the total lifting of the shipping ban on meat cows raised in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures on August 18. The government will instruct the governors of the two prefectures as early as August 19. As radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional national safety limit (500 becquerels/kg) was found in the meat, the government banned the shipping of the cows in Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, and Tochigi Prefectures between July 19 and August 2. Fukushima and Miyagi would be the first to have the ban lifted.

and 43% of the schools are located in Yokohama City alone.

From Asahi Shinbun (3:02AM JST 8/11/2011):

放射性セシウムに汚染された疑いのある牛肉を給食に使っていた学校や幼稚園が12都県の296施設に上る ことが、文部科学省の調 査で分かった。うち2校では国の暫定基準値を超えるセシウムを検出。健康に影響はないとみられるが、文科省は食材の出荷制限などの情報に注意するよう学校 現場に呼びかけている。

The survey by the Ministry of Education and Science has revealed that 296 schools in 12 prefectures have used beef from cows suspected of radioactive cesium contamination. 2 schools used the beef whose cesium level exceeded the provisional safety limit. It is not considered the level of cesium in the meat will affect health, but the ministry is telling the schools to pay attention to information on shipping restriction on food items [due to radiation].

Japan Government Orders Complete Ban On All Shipments Of Beef From Miyagi Prefecture After Detecting Radioactive Cesium – Iwate May Face Similar Ban

Miyagi beef cattle shipments barred (Japan Times, July 28, 2011):

Iwate may face similar ban amid radiation spread

The government ordered a complete ban Thursday on all shipments of beef cattle from Miyagi Prefecture after detecting radioactive cesium above the government limit in some local cattle.

The government is also considering placing a similar ban on beef cattle from Iwate Prefecture, where five cattle from Ichinoseki and Fujisawa have already been found contaminated with radioactive cesium exceeding the limit of 500 becquerels per kilogram.

That decision is expected to come next week, sources said.

No surprise to anyone who didn’t trust the Japanese government.

From Asahi Shinbun (11:14PM JST 7/25/2011):

福島県は25日、同県広野町の農家が収穫した小麦から、基準値を超える放射性セシウムが検出されたと発表した。この小麦は市場に流通していないという。小麦で基準値を超えた放射性物質の検出は初めて。

Fukushima Prefecture announced on July 25 that radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional limit was detected from the wheat harvested at a farm in Hirono-machi [23 kilometers south of Fukushima I Nuke Plant] in Fukushima Prefecture. The prefectural government says the wheat hasn’t been sold in the market. It is the first time that radioactive cesium exceeding the limit has been detected in wheat.
