… on anything these days.

The release occurred from Sep. 8 to Nov. 16? Nobody noticed anything until Nov. 11?

Sure!

And apparently the IAEA seems not to know about the danger of internal emitters, thereby comparing the Iodine-131 release to background radiation.

More BS we can believe in.

IAEA: Source of Iodine-131 in Europe Is the Institute of Isotopes Ltd in Budapest, Hungary (EX-SKF, Nov. 18, 2011):

(UPDATE) The said Hungarian Institute says “It’s not us.” “If the source of heightened radioactivity had been Budapest, the levels measured here should have been much higher.”

———————————————–

The press release on 11/17/2011 from IAEA (emphasis is mine):

17 November 2011 | The IAEA has received information from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) that the source of the iodine-131 (I-131) detected in Europe was most probably a release to the atmosphere from the Institute of Isotopes Ltd., Budapest. The Institute of Isotopes Ltd. produces radioisotopes for healthcare, research and industrial applications. According to the HAEA, the release occurred from September 8 to November 16, 2011. The cause of the release is under investigation.

As previously mentioned, the levels of I-131 that have been detected in Europe are extremely low. There is no health concern to the population. If any member of the public were to breathe iodine for a whole year at the levels measured in European countries, then they would receive a dose in the range of 0.01 microsieverts for the year. To put this into perspective, the average annual background is 2400 microsieverts per year.

The IAEA was first notified of the presence of trace levels of I-131 by authorities from the Czech Republic on 11 November. Since this notification, the IAEA contacted several member states throughout the region to determine the cause and origin. The IAEA also worked with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to conduct air dispersion modelling, as part of efforts to determine the source.

At least IAEA didn’t mention X-ray or transcontinental flight. Never mind that the average annual background includes external radiation, and that iodine-131 goes almost exclusively to thyroid; talking about the whole body radiation is irrelevant.

Radioactive Iodine-131 Detected All Over Europe – Prof. Alexei Yablokov: ‘… Something Very Unpleasant And Uncommon Has Happened’

ANALYSIS: European radiation safety agencies detect traces of iodine-131 in air, source of leak unknown (Bellona, Nov. 17, 2011):

Radiation safety agencies in the Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden, and other European countries report traces of iodine-131 in the atmosphere – an indication of either a radiation leak or a severe accident at a nuclear facility. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) asserts no risk to population health, but the lack of reliable data on specific concentrations or locations where the radionuclide was detected suggests safety might be a concern.

IAEA Reports Unusual Radiation In Europe (Cause Unknown – Not From Fukushima – Release Appears To Be Continuing)

Taces of iodine-131 detected in Europe (Trend, Nov. 11, 2011):

Low levels of a radioactive isotope have been detected in several European countries in the past days, but the source of the emission was unknown, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Friday, DPA reported.

Nuke agency reports unusual radiation in Europe (AP, Nov. 11, 2011):

VIENNA (AP) — Very low levels of radiation, which are higher than normal but don’t seem to pose a health hazard, are being registered in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday.

The agency said the cause was not known but was not the result of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which spread radiation across the globe in March.

The “very low levels of iodine-131 have been measured in the atmosphere,” the agency said in a statement. It said such radioisotope will lose much of its radiation in about eight days.

However, an official familiar with the matter, who asked for anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, said the release appeared to be continuing.

Silent Death – Horror Scenario Awaits Japan (The Low-Level Radiation Myth Exposed)

From the article:

Does that mean that NOW 25 years after Chernobyl those people are getting seriously ill who were back then exposed to low-level radiation?

Yes, indeed. Those who have been adults back then survived 25 years and are NOW getting sick. We call it the silent death. Those who have been children back then got sick a lot earlier – often times with fatal consequences.

How do I have to imagine life in those contaminated areas?

Life? Above all there is death, silent death, mainly cancer. People die of all sorts of diseases related to Strontium, affecting for example the heart muscle, whose energy becomes dysfunctional. We have studies from Belarus documenting that already 2-year-old to 4-year-old children die of acute heart failure. It does not have to be cancer. The people die of kidney and liver failure and all kinds of blood diseases, also known as ‘Chernobyl AIDS’.

Now compare that to what the Japanese people are being told  by their elite puppet government:

ALERT! – Saint Louis, MO: Radioactive Rain At 2.76 mR/Hr, 270 Times Over Background Radiation, Highest Reading So Far (Oct. 17, 2011)

YouTube Added: 23.10.2011

The Day THYROID CANCER Was Thrust Upon Saint Louis, North America: Monday 17th of October 2011

The POTRBLOG team has been able to identify a 19.25 hour half life and a follow on 4.8 day half life component in the radioactive fallout which rained down on Saint Louis, Missouri on Monday 17th of October 2011. The half lives and decay chain indicate the presence of radioactive Iodine 133 and its daughter product Xenon 133.

As evidenced by alternating Saint Louis, Mo fallout detections of Neptunium 239 and currently of Iodine 133 + Xenon 133, Fukushima is cycling between a free flowing neutron rich criticality creating Neptunium-239 — Plutonium 239 and a neutron “poisoned” criticality where Iodine-133 — Xenon 133 is both the neutron poison and primary fallout product.

Kashiwa City’s Radioactive Dirt: 276,000 Bq/Kg of Cesium!!!!!

Kashiwa City’s Radioactive Dirt: 276,000 Bq/Kg of Cesium (EX-SKF, Oct. 22, 2011):

The highly radioactive dirt in Kashiwa City in Chiba, which measured 57.5 microsieverts/hr 30 centimeters below the surface, was not from radium after all or any other nuclides that are used in industrial or medical use (some suggested cobalt-60, for example). It was from radioactive cesium.

On October 22 Kashiwa City announced the result of the analysis of three dirt samples from the location at different depth (one on the surface, two at 30 centimeter deep). The analysis was done on October 22. The unit is becquerels per kilogram:

What are officials hiding about Fukushima? (Straight, October 20, 2011):

After the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986, Soviet officials were vilified for hiding the impacts from the public. But when Japan’s Fukushima nuclear accident took place last March, public officials in Japan and Canada alike jumped straight into Chernobyl-style damage-control mode, dismissing any worries about impacts.

Now evidence has emerged that the radiation in Canada was worse than Canadian officials ever let on.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Finds 51,000 Bequerels/Square Meter Radioactive Cesium In Shinjuku Soil

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Measures Soil Contamination in Shinjuku (EX-SKF, Oct. 8, 2011):

And it is higher, much higher than the Ministry of Education’s aerial survey indicates.

First, to recap, according to the just released Ministry of Education’s aerial survey of radioactive cesium deposition in Tokyo, most of Tokyo has less than 10,000 becquerels/square meter of radioactive cesium, with the exception of the western-most Okutama and the eastern special wards (“ku”) bordering Chiba Prefecture to the east.

Now, it turns out that the Tokyo Metropolitan government, who is not so eager to measure anything radioactive since March 11, was doing its annual survey of soil contamination in Shinjuku and quietly released the data on September 20.

The soil sample was taken at Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Public Health in Hyakunin-cho, Shinjuku-ku, as it has always been done. (That’s where the official air radiation level is monitored every day for Tokyo.)

For the last 5 years, radioactive iodine and cesium-134 were not detected, and cesium-137 was 2 to 3 becquerels per kilogram.

Now, this year, the numbers for the soil from the surface to 5 centimeters deep were:

  • Iodine-131: ND
  • Cesium-134: 360 becquerels/kg
  • Cesium-137: 430 becquerels/kg
  • Total cesium: 790 becquerels/kg

To convert from “per kilogram” to “per square meter”, Japan’s Nuclear Safety Commission uses the factor of 65. The total cesium per square meter in Shinjuku therefore is: 51,350 becquerels per square meter.

Even if you just take cesium-137 (for comparison purpose), 430 becquerels/kg translates to 27,950 becquerels/square meter.

Fukushima Nuclear Plant Back Into Recriticality

From the article:

“The future of this blog is bright.”

Breaking News: Fukushima in recriticality (Fukushima Diary, Sep. 9, 2011):

At four different places in Japan, Iodine 131 was detected between 15th-25th August.

The half life time of Iodine 131 is about 8 days.

It’s natural to think Fukushima got into the recriticality state.

1) Between 8/15?16,they detected 150 Bq/kg of Iodine 131 from sewage sludge in Tokyo.

Just Burn Radioactive Materials Then They’re Harmless, said One Japanese Economist (EX-SKF, August 13, 2011):

If that’s true, the entire Fukushima I Nuke Plant can blow up in a huge bonfire and we’ll be all set.

Nobuo Ikeda is a Japanese economist and commentator and a former NHK director. He has a sizeable following in Japan and is considered influential. I am just parroting what I’ve found about him, as all I know of him is the tweet he wrote and disseminated to his 120,000-plus followers from his Twitter account on August 13 (which has been taken down since), in which he, commenting on the decision by Kyoto City not to use the radioactive firewood from Rikuzen Takata City, apparently said:

?????????????????????????????????????

Doesn’t the Kyoto City government know that radioactive materials will be dissolved and rendered harmless once they get burned?

I sure didn’t.

Mr. Ikeda also says it’s a superstition that low-level radiation exposure causes cancer, according to his tweet on August 12 (in Japanese), and that the “anti-nuke” movement is nothing but a powerless conspiracy among the left and the ultra-left, former radical left from the 1960s.

Radioactive Iodine Found In Thyroid Glands In 50% Of Fukushima Children (NHK)

Radiation effect on children’s thyroid glands (NHK, August 14, 2011):

A survey shows that a small amount of radioactive iodine has been detected in the thyroid glands of hundreds of children in Fukushima Prefecture.

The result was reported to a meeting of the Japan Pediatric Society in Tokyo on Saturday.

A group of researchers led by Hiroshima University professor Satoshi Tashiro tested 1,149 children in the prefecture for radiation in their thyroid glands in March following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Radioactive iodine was detected in about half of the children.

Tashiro says radiation in thyroid glands exceeding 100 millisieverts poses a threat to humans, but that the highest level in the survey was 35 millisieverts.

Tashiro says based on the result, it is unlikely that thyroid cancer will increase in the future, but that health checks must continue to prepare for any eventuality.

1 BILLION BECQUERELS PER HOUR Emission of Radioactive Materials from Fukushima I Nuke Plant at the End of June

1 Billion Becquerels Per Hour Emission of Radioactive Materials from Fukushima I Nuke Plant at the End of June (EX-SKF, July 19, 2011):

That’s an amazing reduction from the maximum emission of 2,000 terabecquerels per hour on March 15, it is actually one-2 millionth of the maximum, says TEPCO in the Reference No. 2 of the progress report on the “roadmap” to God knows where.

Is this number, 1 billion becquerels per hour emission, good? TEPCO’s Matsumoto, in the press conference on July 19, avoided the judgment, and said he didn’t know, but it was one-2 millionth of what it had been on March 15.

On closer reading of the document, though, I noticed one strange thing about this emission number. TEPCO is talking about the radiation emission measured in cesium (cesium-134 and -137), not in iodine equivalence.

To come up with the iodine-131 equivalence, you have to multiply cesium-134 by 3, and cesium-137 by 40 (according to INES handbook). TEPCO doesn’t even give the breakdown of cesium 134 and -137 in its calculation of 1 billion becquerels/hour number. Other nuclides have even higher multiplier: americium-241 is 8,000, plutonium-239 is 10,000.

If half of 1 billion becquerels is cesium-134 and the other half is cesium-137, then in iodine-131 equivalence like in the previous calculations, the emission would be:

(0.5*3)+(0.5*40)=1.5+20=21.5 billion becquerels/hour

Instead of 1 billion becquerels/hour, it would be 21.4 billion becquerels/hour in iodine equivalence, or 516 billion becquerels in one day. In less than 2 days, we would be talking about over 1 terabecquerels.

Dramatic Rise In Radioactive Iodine-131 In Tokyo Sewage

Iodine-131 Still Detected in Sewage Sludge in Tokyo (EX-SKF, July 19, 2011):

The chart below is created by me from the data provided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Sewerage regarding radioactive iodine and cesium at the 12 sewage treatment plants in Tokyo. The chart only shows iodine-131, in the dehydrated sewage sludge. The unit is becquerels/kg.

After nearly 4 months since the last known large discharge of radioactive materials from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant (March 21), you would think radioactive iodine would be undetectable by now.

On checking Japanese Twitter on the subject, I’ve found an interesting theory. Some people think that maybe there are hospitals in those areas where iodine-131 increased, and they are dumping radioactive iodine in the sewage that they use for treatment for thyroid problems; or that it’s from the urine of the patients treated for thyroid problems.

Anything’s possible. Probable though would be a continuing discharge from Fukushima I Nuke Plant, but who knows?

Is Iodine-131 Killing Babies In Philly? Death Rate Up 48 Percent Since Iodine-131 Has Been Detected In Philadelphia’s Drinking Water

All links on the effects of low-level radiation down below.

Is Iodine-131 Killing Babies In Philly? (MyFoxPhilly, June 16, 2011):

A researcher says the death rate among babies is up 48 percent since Iodine-131 was found in Philadelphia’s drinking water

Joseph Mangano is is the executive director of the Radiation And Public Health Project in New York, which is made of up scientists and health professionals.

There has been a recent spike, in infant deaths in Philadelphia, and Mangano says radioactive levels, in our water could be to blame.

After the explosion at the Fukushima power plant in Japan, radiation circled the globe, all the way to Pennsylvania.

About a month, after the disaster, radiation levels spiked, in our water, at three Philadelphia facilities.

Mangano said radiation combined with higher levels of iodine the EPAQ found in Philadelphia’s water two months ago may be killing young babies here.

Fukushima: Kurion’s Cesium Removal System Is Clogged – Areva’s Water Decontamination System Had Not 10 But 48 Leaks!

#Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Kurion’s Cesium Removal System Is Clogged Somewhere (EX-SKF, June 12, 2011):

Part of the contaminated water treatment system being readied at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant is the cesium absorption tower using the technology of Kurion, a US start-up with very little information on their corporate website.

TEPCO discovered that not enough water was flowing through one of the 4 subsystems, and suspects it’s clogged up somewhere.

And a bit of new information that the Kurion’s system removes not just cesium but technetium and iodine, according to the press conference handout from TEPCO which is found below.

By the way, the number of pipe leaks in the Areva’s system was not “over 10”. Well, it was “over ten” for sure, but it was actually 48.

From Yomiuri Shinbun (11:45AM JST 6/12/2011; diagram of Kurion’s system added):

TEPCO announced on June 12 that the test run of the system to treat highly contaminated water at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant would be delayed after June 13.

Tellurium-132 Detected At 4 Locations On March 12 Before Fukushima Explosion That Day

#Fukushima I Nuke Accident Tellurium-132 Conundrum: Case of Missing Iodine and Cesium (EX-SKF, June 6, 2011):

This blog posted on June 3 that the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency revealed tellurium-132 had been detected 6 kilometers from the plant on the morning of March 12, before the venting of the Reactor 1.

Well, that Yomiuri Shinbun article in that post was incomplete, to say the least. It turns out that it was not only one location in Namie-machi where radioactive tellurium was detected but also at 3 other locations: one more location in Namie-machi, one location in Okuma-machi, and one location in Minami-Soma City.

Moreover, the same air radiation survey done by Fukushima Prefecture detected more volatile iodine-131 at half as much as tellurium, but it hardly detected any cesium-137 except at one location.

It’s not supposed to happen that way, if what we’ve been told about the circumstance is correct, as a Kyoto University professor says in the article in Tokyo Shinbun, below.

(I’ll go look for the information at NISA, and update if I find more data.)

Tokyo Shinbun (6/5/2011; emphasis added) reports the puzzling detection of tellurium-132 on March 12:

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It has been revealed that radioactive tellurium, a metal that is hard to disperse in the atmosphere, was detected on the next day [March 12] of the earthquake in Namie-machi, 7 kilometers from the plant, and other locations according to the result of the monitoring survey done by Fukushima Prefecture before the explosion at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant that day. More tellurium was detected than more volatile radioactive iodine. It shows that metallic radioactive materials [like tellurium] dispersed wide from an early stage [of the accident]. Tellurium is a rare metal, and tellurium-132 has a half-life of about 3 days, emitting beta rays.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The data was revealed on June 3 evening by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency. The monitoring survey of the air was done from March 12 morning till March 13 night, and the most of the data had been withheld until June 3. Tellurium-132 was detected from the morning till the early afternoon on March 12 at 2 locations in Namie-machi, and Okuma-machi and Minami-Soma City. The concentration was between 23 to 119 becquerels per cubic meter, exceeding the safety limit of 20 becquerels per cubic meter.

High Levels Of Radioactive Iodine Found In Fukushima Nuclear Workers

High radioactivity found in Japan nuclear workers (AFP, May 30th, 2011):

TOKYO — Two workers from Japan’s stricken Fukushima nuclear plant have been contaminated by high levels of radioactive iodine, the operator said Monday, prompting fears over their long-term health.

The workers, reportedly men in their 30s and 40s, may have already been exposed to radiation levels higher than the recently boosted official annual limit, Japanese media suggested.

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said it had been measuring the internal exposure to radiation of all employees involved in emergency work at the Fukushima Daiichi plant crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Internal exposure occurs when people take radioactive substances into their bodies through tainted air or food and drink.

Hong Kong Finds Radioactive Iodine-131 In Fish

Hong Kong finds radioactive iodine in fish (AFP, May 28, 2011):

A SMALL amount of radioactive iodine-131 has been found in a sample of fish taken from a wholesale market in Hong Kong, the Government said today.

Hong Kong has been monitoring radiation levels in the city’s food and water supply and atmosphere in the wake of the crisis at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power station.

Tepco Says Iodine at Kashiwazaki Plant May Be From Fukushima (Bloomberg, May 26, 2011:)

Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it found traces of radioactive iodine 131 near its Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear plant that may have originated from the utility’s stricken Fukushima Dai-Ichi reactors.

Operations at Kashiwazaki on Japan’s western coast are normal, the company known as Tepco said in a statement today. The iodine was found in seaweed that may have drifted over from the Fukushima plant on the country’s eastern coast, according to the statement.

Radiation leaks from the three reactor meltdowns at Fukushima rank the accident on the same scale as the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. The 20-kilometer (12-mile) exclusion zone around Fukushima has forced the evacuation of 50,000 households, extermination of livestock and disposal of crops.

Chubu Electric Power Co., which shut all the reactors at its sole nuclear station following the Fukushima disaster, detected radioactive cobalt 58 on a filter attached to an exhaust stack at the plant, the utility said today.

Japan Government Quietly Released WSPEEDI Simulation, Showing Very High Iodine-131 Organ Dose In Infants

Flashback:

Japan Hit By Massive Nuclear Fallout Cloud Of Highly Radioactive Iodine:

Ministry of Education Quietly Released WSPEEDI Simulation, It Shows Very High Organ Dose of Iodine-131 for Infants in Wide Area (May 22, 2011)

I mentioned the system called the WSPEEDI simulation system in passing when I wrote about SPEEDI data for the early period of the Fukushima I Nuke Plant accident (March 11 onward).

When Professor Kosako resigned from his post as PM special advisor in protest of the 20 millisievert/year radiation limit for school children, he called for the release of WSPEEDI, which can cover much wider area (“several thousand kilometers”, according to Professor Kosako).

Well well. The Ministry of Education very quietly put the WSPEEDI simulation data on their webpage for SPEEDI data list on May 10, without any fanfare, without any media (I mean MSM) coverage.

The Ministry released 2 simulation maps, one for March 24 and another for March 25. They are only about iodine-131.

One of the maps, “Organ dose of I-131 for infant [less than a year old]”, shows that the extremely high dose along the coast of Fukushima, with the dose in the area around Fukushima I Nuke Plant over 500 millisieverts (deep pink color). I added the prefecture names:

Another map, “Surface deposition of I-131”, shows a very wide area in Kanto and Tohoku in green, which indicates iodine-131 deposition of between 100,000 to 1,000,000 becquerels per square meter. In Tokyo, one green band goes over the densely populated eastern Tokyo (23 “ku” or districts) and another one goes over the middle. That pretty much corresponds with the higher air radiation level that continues in the 23 districts, particularly the eastern most districts, and the elevated level in cities like Fuchu, which sits in the middle. Again, I added the prefecture names:

So this is what TPTB wanted to hide at all cost, and released in a sneaky fashion after 2 months, and it’s only about iodine-131 whose half life is 8 days. Where there’s iodine-131, there’s got to be cesium, but they are still mum on cesium or any other radionuclides. No WSPEEDI data from the earlier days, nor after March 25.
