– African Migrants Brawl with Locals on French Island of Corsica:

Tense relations between locals and North African migrants led to a violent skirmish between members of the two groups this weekend on the French island of Corsica, leading to several injuries and torched vehicles.

Authorities had to deploy some 100 police officers and firefighters to the small resort town of Sisco to try to restore order after a conflict grew out of hand, moving quickly from strong words to violence. In the end, the use of tear gas was necessary to stop the riot.

Even if you’ve only been paying a superficial amount of attention to the European refugee crisis, you’ll be aware of the fact that earlier this year the EU and Turkey agreed to a deal on migrants where in exchange for concessions, Turkey would stem the flow of migrants from its shores. The deal went through and refugee levels from Turkey fell dramatically.

Unfortunately, one major problem with the deal is Turkey’s demand for visa-free travel, something many throughout the EU were intensely against from the beginning, and are even more opposed to now following the Turkish government’s authoritarian crackdown on tens of thousands of its own citizens following last month’s failed coup.

So here we are, less than six months since the deal was agreed to and Turkey is now threatening to end it. This could be a geopolitical event of enormous consequence considering there are an estimated 2 million Syrian refugees in Turkey, many of which are itching to take their chances within the EU.

In Greece’s ongoing collapse into utter farce, The Greek finance ministry confirmed some more details of the long-planned registration of all kinds of private wealth that will go into effect in February 2017. As KeepTalkingGreece reports, more than 8,500,000 tax payers registered in Greece will be called to declare all moveable and immovable assets, their total “wealth”, and even cash they possess even if it is below 100 euro. Furthermore, the taxpayers will have to register changes in their assets when they occur and not annually.

Tax authorities will upload on their website pre-filled data like real estate, declared income, income from rents, loans, vehicles etc – practically the pre-filled data will refer to data given by taxpayers in their income declaration.

And under the new scheme, Greeks are mandated to have registered everything they own, with taxpayers having to add moveable and immovable possessions such as paintings, antiques, jewelry, even historical weapon, etc but also the cash they have in their wallets or under the mattress.

REUTERS — A man was seriously wounded in an attack in Cologne city center in the early hours of Monday, police and the public prosecutor’s office said, adding that there were no signs of a terrorist motive.

The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with stab wounds and head injuries, police and prosecutors said in a statement. Eyewitnesses said several people were involved in an argument.

Asked whether hundreds of thousands of refugees in Turkey would head to Europe if the EU did not grant Turks visa freedom from October, he told Bild newspaper’s Monday edition: “I don’t want to talk about the worst case scenario – talks with the EU are continuing but it’s clear that we either apply all treaties at the same time or we put them all aside.”

Visa-free access to the EU – the main reward for Ankara’s collaboration in choking off an influx of migrants into Europe – has been subject to delays due to a dispute over Turkish anti-terrorism legislation and Ankara’s crackdown after a failed coup.

Despite Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker declaring a state of emergency in Milwaukee on Sunday and activating the state’s National Guard a day after riots and looting erupted in the city spurred by the fatal police shooting of an armed man following a traffic stop, the violence flared again on Sunday night, with one person shot, a police officer injured and objects hurled during the protest early Monday, police said.

Protests resumed Sunday and carried into early Monday morning as protesters began swarming a Milwaukee police station, blocking the street. One victim was shot during the Monday unrest and rushed to a hospital in an armored vehicle. A police officer was injured and also taken to the hospital after a rock broke the windshield of a squad car, according to Milwaukee Police. The damage was not as extensive as the protests from the previous night according to CNN.

The influx of over one million migrants last year fuelled support for the AfD, which now has seats in eight of Germany’s 16 state assemblies and is expected to make a strong showing in state votes next month in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Party leader Frauke Petry made the suggestions in an interview with the Bild newspaper published on Saturday.

According to an investigation by the Express newspaper, the MoD now has no fewer than 2,395 personnel on its payroll and yet spent mammoth sums on outside advice.

This includes spending an additional £10 million (US$12.9 million) on financial advisers and £18 million on solicitors on top of its annual £26 million legal fund.

The United Kingdom could remain in the European Union until late 2019 as civil servants are struggling with Brexit, and elections in France and Germany may hold up the start of exit negotiations, ministers have privately warned.

Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to enact Article 50 of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty, which would start a two-year countdown to leaving the bloc.

However, she might have to postpone it because her new Brexit and international trade departments are not ready, according to The Sunday Times.

The Twitter account of Guccifer 2.0, the hacker who claimed responsibility for leaking a trove of Democratic National Committee documents, was suspended less than 24 hours after dumping fresh sensitive DNC data.
On Friday, the hacker wrote a blog post taking credit for a fresh leak from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

He published an excel spreadsheet containing the mobile phone numbers and email addresses of every Democrat in the House of Representatives, as well as passwords to DCCC files to substantiate his claim.

The hacker, who had actively been using Twitter to publicize his leaks, has since had his account suspended.

WikiLeaks claims that the suspension was related to the publication of the DCCC documents.

The revelations were published in the Observer on Saturday.

The report takes a closer look at the Softex refugee camp, a former toilet roll factory on the outskirts of Thessaloniki in Greece that hosts some 1,400 asylum seekers from besieged Syria, of whom 170 are thought to be children, according to the news outlet’s data.

Far-right Austrian Freedom Party (FPO) presidential candidate Norbert Hofer has called for a ban on naturalization of Turkish residents in Austria until dual citizenship issues are resolved and said that his country could still leave the EU if Turkey joins the bloc.

Hofer said that he “very much advocates the demand” to break off the EU accession talks with Turkey, as he launched his campaign in the re-run presidential election by giving an interview to the Oesterreich daily.

He said that the accession talks do not help the EU to make Turkey more western-oriented, adding that this strategy “does not work” anymore.

Last week the Chicago Tribune pointed out that nearly 100 people had been shot in Chicago in less than a week.  9 people were killed on Monday alone marking the deadliest day for the city in 13 years.  Now, with weekend data out, turns out the story is even worse.  For the week ended 8/13, a total of 110 people were shot in Chicago with 24 of them killed.  YTD statistics indicate the city is spiraling out of control with total shootings up to 2,621, a mere ~50% YoY increase, with 445 total homicides.

The current homicide rate through August indicates the city is on pace for over 700 homicides in 2016, a 63% increase from 2015 (see chart below).

A huge fire has erupted at a refugee center in central Germany, leaving at least 19 people injured, local media report. Twenty living containers are said to be engulfed in flames.

A huge pillar of smoke can be seen billowing into the sky from the refugee shelter’s yard in a video posted on YouTube.The center is located in the German state of Hessen on the territory of a small international airport in the city of Kassel.
