BERLIN, Sept 4 (Reuters) – Turkey is now willing to accept the liberalisation of travel visa rules with the European Union by the end of the year instead of October, as previously targeted, the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag said on Sunday, citing senior Turkish government sources.

Ankara had threatened to walk away from an EU migrant deal should it not get more relaxed travel rules in October, but Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister Omer Celik downplayed that prospect on Saturday after a meeting with EU officials.

(AFP) Europe is “close to limits” on its ability to accept new waves of refugees, EU President Donald Tusk said Sunday, urging the broader international community to shoulder its share of the burden.

“The practical capability of Europe to host new waves of refugees, not to mention irregular economic migrants, is close to limits,” he told a press conference on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

A steady stream of refugees has flowed into Europe over the last year, largely fleeing from the civil war in Syria.

Upon arrival on Saturday in China as part of his last visit to Asia as US Commander in Chief for the periodic photo-op that is the G-20 meeting, something unexpected happened: a very undiplomatic greeting when an unusual tarmac altercation involving Chinese and U.S. officials, including national security adviser Susan Rice, devolved into a shouting match by a member of the Chinese delegation.

It all started with the actual landing: as AP reports, the first sign of trouble is that there was no staircase for Obama to exit the plane and descend on the red carpet. So, as the photo below shows, Obama used an alternative exit. Needless to say, a diplomatic fuck up such as this one, was not accidental – Beijing was sending a loud and clear message.

I have often wondered if/when the softening on the War on Drugs would be used as a weapon of disarmament. This is an interesting ploy by the feds to use the move towards decriminalizing marijuana as a means of barring Second Amendment lovers from purchasing guns – since it will be argued that marijuana introduces a dangerous or ‘irrational and unpredictable’ element. Of course, they don’t ban alcoholics or prescription pill poppers from purchasing weapons, but I’m sure that many people would be interested in doing so if they could.

The French interior minister has vowed to destroy the notorious Calais ‘Jungle’ migrant camp with “utmost determination.” The statement comes days after authorities announced two new camps would be built for asylum seekers in Paris.

“We have already proceeded to dismantle the southern area [of the Jungle camp] in early March and we have already begun in the north… My intention is to continue [the demolition of the camp] with the utmost determination,” Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who was visiting Calais, told local newspaper Nord Littoral on Friday.

He added that the process “must be done in stages, starting with creating more accommodation places in France to unblock Calais.”

The number of illegal migrants who have entered Austria this year has been revealed to be over 120,000 – far more than the supposed government limit of 37,500.

According to an inquiry by a member of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) the real figure for illegal border crossings into the central European state from January to July is 129,882. The figure is much larger than the government’s limit of 37,500, which was meant to trigger a shut down on all migration, reports Austrian paper Heute.

The parents of a special-needs student are suing the Anchorage, Alaska school district, arguing it waited too long to investigate a teacher’s aide over claims of sexual abuse. In a plea deal, the aide served 48 hours of community service.

Begich Middle School teacher’s aide Julianti Clarke, 62, was charged with abuse in October 2014, after surveillance video showed her fondling a disabled male student in the lunchroom. In November 2015, prosecutors agreed to a plea deal that would let Clarke serve 48 hours of community service and dropped the charges.

In a lawsuit filed this week in Anchorage Superior Court, the student’s parents argue that the school district edited the video to hide Clarke’s abuse of another student while their son watched. They say the district “negligently failed” to supervise Clarke and failed to protect students, asking for damages over $500,000 for “foreseeable severe emotional distress,” according to Alaska Dispatch News.
