Today, Japan marks the fifth anniversary of the tragic and catastrophic meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear plant. On March 11, 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami hit the northeast coast of Japan, killing 20,000 people. Another 160,000 then fled the radiation in Fukushima. It was the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl, and according to some it would be far worse, if the Japanese government did not cover up the true severity of the devastation.

Almost one-and-a-half million Monarch butterflies in Michoacan died frozen by the recent snowfall recorded temperatures of 12 degrees Celsius below zero, says Homero Gomez Gonzalez, president of the Board of Directors of the El Rosario sanctuary.
However, they have found that many still breathe and fly again as the sun melts the snow.
According to his calculations, three percent of the 50 million butterflies arrived this season to the nature reserve died frozen and buried, after the snow generated by the winter storm reach 11 to 35 centimeters thick.

The UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura announced on Friday that UN-supervised Syrian elections should be held in 18 months.

– Ghost Town Left in the Wake of the Bayou Corne Sinkhole in Louisiana:
Bayou Corne, 77 miles west of New Orleans, can be added to the growing list of communities destroyed by industrial accidents.
“I wanted to stay in Bayou Corne for the rest of my life. I wanted to die here,” Mike Schaff, who recently moved out, told DeSmogBlog. “Texas Brine took that away from me. It’s like a ghost town now.”
The area was known as a picturesque sportsman’s paradise for its waterways teeming with fish and alligators, but is now famous for a giant sinkhole that opened up on August 3, 2012 after a salt dome cavern owned by Occidental Chemical Corp. and operated by Texas Brine Co. LLC, collapsed.
Scientists working for the state concluded Texas Brine drilled too close to the dome’s edge, leading to the formation of the sinkhole.

With accusations of rape and other offences mounting against migrants, Germany has launched a special website to educate the newcomers about European sexual values and reproductive health.The website, entitled “Zanzu: My body in words and images,” was set up by the German Health Ministry in late February.
The portal, which is available in 12 languages, including English, French, and Arabic, was designed to “give migrants, who have been in Germany for a short time, the opportunity to inform themselves on sexual and reproductive health,” the German edition of The Local cites.

Legions of pundits are crawling out of the woodwork to gloat over the implosion of the Republican Party. Corrupt, crony-capitalist, Imperial over-reach–good riddance.
But far fewer pundits dare declare that the other corrupt, crony-capitalist party of Imperial over-reach–yes, the Democratic Party–is imploding, too, for the same reason: it too is rotten to the core and exists solely to protect the privileges of the few at the expense of the many.
Democrats need to ask themselves: if Hillary Clinton is the shining epitome of what the Democratic Party stands for and represents, then what does the Democratic party stand for other than corruption, greed, pay-to-play, Imperial over-reach, elites who are above the law, and a permanent war state overseen by a corporatocracy bent on protecting the unearned privileges of the few at the expense of the many?
Two Clintons. 41 years. $3 Billion.
