Police Officers Could Be Fired After Telling Migrant ‘Black Man, Go Home’:

Two officers of the Baden-Württemberg police may be facing expulsion from the force after they allegedly harassed a Senegalese asylum seeker at a McDonald’s restaurant while on a private day trip to Augsburg.

According to the indictment against the officers, they were on an off-duty trip to Augsburg eating at a Mcdonald’s at around 10 pm when one of the officers is said to have pressed his burger into the head of the Senegalese asylum seeker for no reason. The officer told the man in English: “Black man go home,” Augsburger Allgemeine reports.

After the alleged comment, the asylum seeker threw a tray at the 42-year-old officer’s head but missed. The officer then got up and started to kick and punch the asylum seeker. The asylum seeker then ran away as the officer attempted to kick him further. The other officer, a 40-year-old, allegedly threw insults at the asylum seeker while the incident took place.

Both officers were in court last week and the 42-year-old gave his side of the story saying the group of men had been drinking all day at a brewery and several pubs before heading to McDonald’s and that he believed the incident took place but did not remember any of the details.

The 42-year-old also noted that he had no problem with the asylum seeker or his skin colour when questioned by the judge in the case.

Before the proceedings, the officer offered the asylum seeker 250 euros which were accepted by the Senegalese man and donated to a pro-asylum seeker group at his request. The other officer denied any wrongdoing in the matter.

Many pro-migrant NGOs have complained about how police in certain countries treat asylum seekers, most notably in Bulgaria and Hungary where many have accused officers of abuse.

Despite the complaints, the Hungarian government has recorded very few actual cases of abuse and has imposed fines on those found guilty of misconduct towards asylum seekers.

There have been several instances of asylum seekers attacking police officers at asylum homes or during riots. Earlier this year, one of the attacks was caught on tape in Sweden after three female officers attempted to take a male asylum seeker into custody.
