– Machete-Wielding Man Shouting “Allahu Akbar” Shot Dead After Attacking Two Belgian Police Officers:
Another day, another attack by what according to preliminary accounts appears to be a Jihadist, in a country that has seen a surge in terrorist violence in recent months. According to local police, a machete-wielding man attacked two police officers near the central police station in the Belgian city of Charleroi.

The perpetrator, who was heared shouting “Allahu Akbar,” was shot and injured by a third officer on site, the RTL channel claims, citing local police. The attacker was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but later died of his injuries, according to the local police.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots near the Charleroi police station at around 16:00 local time on Saturday. On onlooker said that “the police asked us to remain inside and lock all doors.”
The injuries received by one of the officers are described as “serious,” RTBF reports. The police have established a security perimeter around the site of the attack.
Attacks with machetes, knives and axes against police and civilians have recently become more frequent in Europe, with similar incidents reported in France and Germany.
