In a story that itself seemed like it may be an April fool’s joke, the WSJ writes that China’s official Xinhua News Agency has issued a warning on its viewpoint commentary microblog that antics over April Fool’s Day – a tradition it was first exposed to only in the late 1970s when it gradually opened up to foreign cultural influence – are “inconsistent with core socialist values” and at odds with Chinese cultural tradition.

– Why Israel Lies:

All governments lie, as I.F. Stone pointed out, including Israel and Hamas. But Israel engages in the kinds of jaw-dropping lies that characterize despotic and totalitarian regimes. It does not deform the truth; it inverts it. It routinely paints a picture for the outside world that is diametrically opposed to reality. And all of us reporters who have covered the occupied territories have run into Israel’s Alice-in-Wonderland narratives, which we dutifully insert into our stories—required under the rules of American journalism—although we know they are untrue.

I saw small boys baited and killed by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza refugee camp of Khan Younis. The soldiers swore at the boys in Arabic over the loudspeakers of their armored jeep. The boys, about 10 years old, then threw stones at an Israeli vehicle and the soldiers opened fire, killing some, wounding others. I was present more than once as Israeli troops drew out and shot Palestinian children in this way. Such incidents, in the Israeli lexicon, become children caught in crossfire. I was in Gaza when F-16 attack jets dropped 1,000-pound iron fragmentation bombs on overcrowded hovels in Gaza City. I saw the corpses of the victims, including children. This became a surgical strike on a bomb-making factory. I have watched Israel demolish homes and entire apartment blocks to create wide buffer zones between the Palestinians and the Israeli troops that ring Gaza. I have interviewed the destitute and homeless families, some camped out in crude shelters erected in the rubble. The destruction becomes the demolition of the homes of terrorists. I have stood in the remains of schools—Israel struck two United Nations schools in the last six days, causing at least 10 fatalities at one in Rafah on Sunday and at least 19 at one in the Jebaliya refugee camp Wednesday—as well as medical clinics and mosques. I have heard Israel claim that errant rockets or mortar fire from the Palestinians caused these and other deaths, or that the attacked spots were being used as arms depots or launching sites. I, along with every other reporter I know who has worked in Gaza, have never seen any evidence that Hamas uses civilians as “human shields.”

The film, Vaxxed (trailer), which has been axed from the Tribeca Film Festival, is all about the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.

Long-time CDC researcher, Bill Thompson, publicly admitted he and his colleagues committed gross fraud, to make the vaccine seem safe, to pretend it had no connection to autism, when it did. They lied. That’s what Vaxxed is about.

Caterpillar is the world’s premier heavy equipment manufacturer, from tractors to locomotives to engines of every shape and size.  As such, Caterpillar is used as a litmus test for the global economy.  More sales by Caterpillar means more people around the world using heavy equipment to produce and build.  Less sales means falling production and crashing demand globally.  Currently, Caterpillar is suffering from one of the longest losing streaks in the company’s history – over 37 straight months of significant year over year retail losses.  That is three years of solid decline.  The mainstream has attempted to pin the lack of demand for Caterpillar machinery on the dramatic fall in oil prices (approximately 50% decline in the past six months), however, oil prices do not explain the three year span of negative year over year profits.  The ONLY thing that explains Caterpillar’s troubles is a crisis level collapse in global demand.  Period.  Caterpillar is a signal, like the Baltic Dry Index, and like oil to some extent.  As the current bear market rally in equities tops out and fizzles over the next two weeks, keep in mind the fundamentals.  A system that requires exponential growth to survive cannot last long under the weight of collapsing demand.  There is nothing that anyone, including central banks, can do to avoid this reality…

Over 100 women and girls in the Central African Republic (CAR) have accused U.N. peacekeepers of sexual assault, and three girls claim they were forced by French troops to participate in bestiality. Though some reports are as of yet unconfirmed, the most recent allegations — the most widespread to date in an ongoing, unraveling saga of systemic assault and rape — are consistent with multiple previous reports of U.N. peacekeepers committing sexual abuse. The most recent allegations span from 2013 to 2015, though an additional rape of a teenage girl was reported as recently as Monday, March 28.

The Associated Press (AP) reported earlier this week that the U.N. announced it was presented with new allegations of abuse on the part of Burundi, Gabonese, and French troops in the Central African Republic, where the U.N. has operated its peacekeeping mission. The mission, the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), has been in place since 2014. The U.N. overtook authority from African union troops in September 2014, and since that time, dozens of allegations of abuse have been made against the peacekeepers. France, which formerly colonized CAR, has had troops in the nation since 2013.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll poll shows that 63% of Americans – 82% of Republicans and 53% of Democrats – believe torture of suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified to gather information.

While it would be nice to beat the crap out of some bad guys to get them spill the beans – and prevent more terrorism – the truth is that torture DECREASES the amount of information we’ll get and actually INCREASES terrorism.
