Fukushima Increased Cesium Levels 100 to 1,000 Times Worldwide And 1,000,000 To 10,000,000 Times On The U.S. West Coast

Scientists Drastically Underestimated Amount of Fukushima Radiation Worldwide (Washington’s Blog, Aug 29, 2014):

Fukushima Radiation Has Spread Worldwide

We noted 2 days after the Japanese earthquake that radiation from Fukushima could end up on the West Coast of North America. And see this.

We started tracking the radioactive cesium released by Fukushima within weeks of the accident.

In fact, U.S. nuclear authorities were extremely worried about the West Coast getting hit by Fukushima radiation … but publicly said it was safe.

We reported that Fukushima radiation spread worldwide.

And we’ve documented for years that the failure to test the potentially high levels of radiation hitting North America is a scandal.

Sadly, we were right to be worried …

The Journal Environmental Science & Technology – published by the American Chemical Society – reported last year that airborne levels of radioactive cesium were raised by 100 to 1,000 times (what scientists describe as two to three “orders of magnitude“):

Before the FDNPP accident, average 137Cs levels were typically of 1 μBq m−3 in Central Europe and lower average values (<0.3 μBq m−3) were characteristic of northern, western and southern Europe.

During the passage of contaminated air masses from Fukushima, airborne 137Cs levels were globally enhanced by 2 to 3 orders of magnitude.

Indeed, even hot particles and nuclear core fragments from Fukushima were found to have traveled all the way to Europe.

The French government radiation agency – IRSN – released a video of Fukushima cesium hitting the West Coast of North America.  EneNews displays a screenshot from the IRSN video, and quantifies the extreme cesium spikes:

  • Cesium-137 levels in 2010: 0.000001 mBq/m³ of Cs-137 (blue writing)
  • Cesium-137 levels in Mar. 2011: 1 to 10 mBq/m³ in Western U.S. (orange plume)
  • Cs-137 levels increased 1,000,000 – 10,000,000 times after Fukushima

Levels on the West Coast were up to 500 times higher than estimated.  Cesium levels from Fukushima were higher than expected worldwide, including in the arctic region of Europe:

Radioactive cesium bioaccumulates in large fish and animals.

The radioactive half life of cesium 137 is usually 30 years. But scientists at the Savannah River National Laboratory say that the cesium at Chernobyl will persist in the environment between 5 and 10 times longer – between 180 and 320 years.

And the Fukushima accident has pumped out some entirely new forms of radioactive materials … in “glassy spheres“, buckyballs, ball-like spheres, and bound to organic matter.  Scientists don’t really know how long these new forms will last …

  1. In my opinion, this is the only story that matters……those of us on the west coast are getting daily blasts from those genocidal bastards.
1% of the normal amount of salmon arrived this year…….last year, they were yellow.
The Pacific Ocean, the world’s biggest ocean, is dead.
50% of the world’s oxygen came from the living Pacific……where will we get that oxygen now?
    A dead ocean provides nothing.
I feel for my friends who live on the ocean. There are no services to deal with the dead sea creatures beaching on our once pristine beaches. Vulture animals, provided by nature, will not touch these creatures, they can smell the difference.
About two years ago, hundreds of dead sea turtles washed ashore in Costa Rica. Dogs raced down to eat them and died instantly. That tells anyone the poison level was far higher than previously claimed.
Radioactive creatures, radioactive trash from Japan litter our beaches. We have no services to deal with radioactive creatures and corpses, so they just pile up.
Volunteer services cannot safely deal with such refuse.
Dreadful creatures from the deep we never knew existed are appearing, Fish with teeth, and other horrors are showing up to beach and die.
Billions were spent by millions wanting to visit our wonderful beaches, all that money is drying up except by those too ignorant to know of the radiation.
These numbers tell me the US will soon be facing their own internal refugee problem, folks from the west coast of Alaska, WA, OR, CA……….
This is the beginning of a world disaster affecting all.

  2. One other very important point…..this was the ONLY SITE to cover this important story…………..everywhere else, not one word was said.
In Japan, Land of the Savage Dead, a reporter can go to Prison for mentioning the word Fukushima.
In the US, any reporter who mentions this story is fired.
Cenk Yeuger, Keith Olberman, Dylan Ratigan……..all kicked off the airwaves. Olberman is now a sports broadcaster………I don’t see how he has the stomach for it……
This brave site was the only one to stay on this essential story. When the first Winter after the disaster came, many people called me wanting to know what to do when going outside, walking their dogs, etc. Thanks to this site, I was able to give them clear information.

  3. Evidently, they were not telling the whole truth yesterday about no damage……….A real problem a #3 a large part of a spent rod……surprise, surprise……hits the water…..the most lethal combination, the one most feared by the few who dared speak any truth……. Goddamn these savages!

  4. @Marilyn Gjerdrum – Marilyn whould you be so kind and provide some photos of the devastated sealife and shores. I would be so greatfull for them and to share them along. I alone have no words to describe this unprecedented situation which is neverending.
