–  Military Coup In Iraq: Prime Minister Maliki Refuses To Step Down; Security Forces On Alert, Encircle Presidential Palace (ZeroHedge, Aug 10, 2014):

Just days after the US launched a campaign that implicitly aides the current regime headed by the supposedly outgoing PM, al-Maliki, it appears that latest US intervention has already led to “unexpected” consequences, this time with the prime minister appearing to have just staged a coup overthrowing Iraq’s president President Fouad Massoum moments ago.

Reuters reports that the prime minister “indicated that he will not drop his bid for a third term and accused the president of violating the constitution in a tough televised speech likely to deepen political tensions as a Sunni insurgency rages. Maliki, seen as an authoritarian and sectarian leader, has defied calls by Sunnis, Kurds, some fellow Shi’ites and regional power broker Iran to step aside for a less polarising figure who can unite Iraqis against Islamic State militants.

The days of Iraq’s president appear numbered:

Bloomberg adds that Maliki says he’s going to federal court to sue President Fouad Masoum for violating the constitution, according to comments made to Iraqi state television. President Masoum in breach when he extended constitutional period for chosing a candidiate to form government and for missing deadline for new period, according to Maliki. Maliki adds that Masoum is in a “coup against the poilitical process” that would lead “Iraq into a dark tunnel.” Maliki warned Presidential council, parliament and federal court about Masoum.

The news has promptly led the WaPo Beirut chief correspondent Liz Sly to ask the question: did Baghdad just have a coup 3 days after the US conducted its fourth military intervention under as many US presidents?

Odd timing indeed. One thing is certain: the US will not let this crisis go to waste either.

However, what makes this particular development especially interesting is that a very organized ISIS is already doing its best to conquer the Iraq capital. A very disorganized army coup may be all that was needed to facilitate this goal, and to put the Iraq oil trade “in play” once again.

And the worst news of all: Obama two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard is ruined one day after it started.

  1. They are throwing out the US puppet government…….big surprise…….the entire world is turning against America, and the only ones who don’t seem to realize the portend of this are our fool leaders.

    For those who don’t remember, March, 2003, the US invaded Iraq for no reason at all. They had nothing to do with 911, and everyone knew it. Cheney & Co said our soldiers would be greeted with flowers and acclaim. No way…….but Iraq had committed the big crime, they called for the world reserve currency to be backed by gold, like the US dollar was when it was appointed. It was seven years before Hugo Chavez got in the back door with electronic currencies making any world reserve currency obsolete.

    They attacked, and immediately secured the oil fields. They then stole their oil by setting up a puppet government who gave greedy gut oil companies long term leases at very low rates. They took the oil, left 50,000 mercenaries at the US embassy, and claimed they were withdrawing all US troops when Obama took office.

    Troops, yes, mercenaries, no.

    This is why the people are so angry, the US stole their most valuable asset. The US treasury got zero, it all went to greedy guts; the US taxpayer got all the expense which continues to this day. Mercenaries patrol the streets and kill anyone who challenges them….they are out of control, highly paid cowboys. Nothing changed, the US is still occupying Iraq.

    Obama, desperate to start a war, any war after Putin stopped his invasion of Syria, could get no allies, or any coalition. The US and Obama have no credibility or respect. Their word means nothing, and once you lose that, you are finished.

    The truth is out, the US is broke. When they didn’t give Germany back half their gold they requested, that proved the US is broke. No nation will tie alliance with a bankrupt, there are plenty of them in the EU right now.

    The US as world reserve currency has been deflated, not by bullets, but by technology. Putin’s basket of currencies, allowing all member nations to trade with each other using their own currencies provides a freedom not known for centuries. This was the one thing keeping the US afloat, they have been printing money nonstop for years with nothing behind it but ink.

    It was started by Hugo Chavez with his tiny South American Trade Alliance in Spring of 2010. He introduced the first electronic currency, the Sucre. All member nations could trade with each other, using their own currency, leaving the dollar out. The Sucre translated the value of each currency at the time of transaction. A world reserve currency is now obsolete……Chavez hit the US in it’s Achilles Heel, deflating the power of the dollar in international transactions. Before then, all nations had to convert to the dollar before completing a transaction. The Sucre was the beginning of the end. The organization was so small, it flew under US radar.

    Switzerland just joined BRICS. Every nation with any sense is joining. The EU still uses the dollar, but when they stop, the dollar will collapse. The behavior of the bullies who now control this nation are the cause.

    Right now, from my memory, so there may be ones I miss, Brazil, Russia, India, China, Much of the emerging nations of Africa, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, much of Central and South America, Japan (they were given a pass by Obama, whatever that means), Turkey, Iran, and other middle east nations are quietly moving into the BRICS camp and now, Switzerland….all have dumped the dollar. All the strong and emerging nations have abandoned the US because of the caustic and illegal behavior of it’s leaders.

    US propaganda acknowledges none of this, but truth is truth.
