Why Did MH-17 Divert From Its Usual Flight Plan, Why Did It Fly Above Restricted Airspace?

Personally, I do not think that this was an assassination attempt on Putin:

While there are various questions that have already emerged from what was supposed to be Ukraine’s “slam dunk” proof confirming Russian rebel involvement in today’s MH-17 tragedy, perhaps one just as gaping question emerges when one looks at what is clearly an outlier flight path in today’s final, and tragic, departure of the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777.

Perhaps the best visualization of what the issue is, comes from Vagelis Karmiros who has collated all the recent MH-17 flight paths as tracked by Flightaware and shows that while all ten most recent paths pass safely well south of the Donetsk region, and cross the zone above the Sea of Azov, it was only today’s tragic flight that passed straight overhead Donetsk.

Why is the diversion from the traditional flight path and passage over the highlighted zone a concern? Because as the following map from the WSJ shows this is precisely where the restricted airspace is.

So perhaps before coming to “certain” conclusion about the involvement of this rebel or that, the key questions one should ask before casting blame, is why did the pilot divert from his usual flight plan, why did he fly above restricted airspace, and just what, if any instructions, did Kiev air control give the pilot in the minutes before the tragic explosion?

  5. To Squodgy: US media is beating the propaganda drums overtime making all of this an act of Putin’s. I got a call today from one of those who live by US media 24/7 news that isn’t. Now, they are retired, and the anger against Putin was shocking.
    She asked me what I thought of Putin. I told her I thought he is a genius, and I wish we had one like him over here instead of the corporate stooges. She was horrified, damn, US propaganda is good at working up the emotions of the fools.
    I went on to explain about how he is taking down the dollar, and she absorbed some of that before reverting to the one story US media has been playing all week, the plane crashes. Enraged, she told me Putin gave the weapons to Russian vandals of sorts. I tried to bring up the point the US does the same thing, and it could well be them.
    I told her Putin would not hit the Ukraine because most Ukraine people see themselves as Russian as well. At this point, she accused me of reading Russian propaganda……her mindless belief in the democrats, that jerk, Obama. She was listening to the latest Ms. Clinton’s book, thinks she is really smart.
    I am horrified at this. This woman has a master degree, and a BA degree………I just don’t get it. I told her some of the sites I consult including Bloomberg, she asked me if I read RT as if I were consulting the devil.
    US propaganda is not only highly polished, it is very dangerous. These people are retired, and have more hours to waste in front of a TV, but the anti Putin propaganda is really upsetting.
    Wait until the dollar collapses. Then, they will have a real reason to be mad, but at the fools in power, not the rest of the world sick of US foreign policy which is now threats and more threats. Where have all the statesmen gone?
    The ass we have as leader is nothing but a sold out corporate stooge. He is the first true Manchurian Candidate. He was the first student ever to be made editor of the Harvard Review without submitting a single paper. He was planned and planted 20 years ago. He has done more to destroy civil rights than any other president, yet fools like this women, love the bastard.
    I have a degree in history. I understand how people cling to the chains that bind them and that more men are born slaves in spirit than in body…..and so on. Yet, this is really putting us out on the edge……….
    When I remember the America of my youth vs. now…….it is an Orwellian nightmare.

  6. I really liked the link with comment #3, squidgy. Makes sense. I am really worried. We have total idiots in power, and they will do anything to get into a war with Russia, china…..anyone……..anything to divert people from the skyrocketing prices as food and energy costs go through the roof, hunger is becoming a real problem in America because of the 300K+ job losses every damn week……we are shedding jobs at over a million a month, and have been doing so since I started keeping tab in 2001.
    We have 100 million working age people unemployed right now. Microsoft just dumped another 18,000.
    The job drain, the income drain is endless. In the meantime, the only ones making money are corrupt politicians and war contractors. Everyone else is losing. Even the bankers are kicking thousands of people loose………
    Life in America has become a nightmare for many. There are too many negative things happening, and nothing good. Idiots in power think war will divert people from hunger? Homelessness? This is madness, and I see no sanity anywhere.
    Oh, for a George Patton or someone with some sense!!

      He had a minor car accident in Germany, Heidelberg that allegedly broke his neck.

      And the Ukraine problem, by the way, would be solved tomorrow, with Putin having all decent world citizens on his side and the perpetrators of this massive provocation being hunted down the streets, running for their lives.
