Professor: Concerns Fukushima is impacting Alaska; “Unusual animals showing up dead… Seals with unknown disease… first cases of avian cholera” — NOAA: ‘Rare whale beachings’ in Alaska under investigation — Japan Paper: Mysterious sea creatures found one after another along coast (PHOTOS) (ENENews, May 10, 2014):

Nome Nugget, Mar. 27, 2014: Radiation sampling to happen for Bering Strait — Regional concerns about the possibility that Bering Sea waters could be radioactively contaminated […] “People throughout our region have repeatedly asked for testing of our subsistence foods and water,” said [University of Alaska, Fairbanks professor Gay Sheffield]. “Seals fell sick with a still unknown disease, we’ve had the documented first cases of avian cholera in Alaska, we’ve had unusual animals like the beaked whale showing up dead on the beach near Gambell and each time people throughout the region expressed concerns about the effects of Fukushima either in the air, and now with the approaching plume in the water,” said Sheffield. […] Gambell Tribal President Eddie Ungott agreed and said that his village is very concerned about radiation. […] IRA President Paul Rookok, Sr. said they are worried about the health of marine mammals […]

Nome Nugget, Apr. 17, 2014: Sheffield also noted that a rare whale washed ashore near Gambell […] a species that has never been seen this far north.

KNOM, Apr. 24, 2014: NOAA Investigating Rare Whale Beachings — Three rarely seen whales beached on Alaska’s coast last year […] The Stejneger’s beaked whales beached last fall: one on St. Lawrence Island and two in Valdez. […]

Yomiuri Shimbun, May 9, 2014: Denizens of the deep surface in mysterious profusion […] Giant oarfish over four meters in length and giant squid with massive tentacles… Deep-sea creatures whose biology is still cloaked in mystery have been found one after another along the coast of the Japan Sea since the beginning of the year. Experts believe that a change in sea temperature has had some kind of effect, but the cause remains unknown. “It was weak but still alive. It spewed water as if exhaling heavily,” Yuji Kawaguchi, 65, a fisherman in Sado, Niigata […] eight giant squids have been found in waters off Niigata […] 11 giant squids have been identified over the five decades until last year and this year has been exceptional.

  1. The Pacific Ocean is nearly dead, and these magnificent animals are washing ashore as food supply is gone, and they are desperate for food and oxygen.
What is so hard to understand? Fukushima has been pouring poisons into the Pacific nonstop since 3.11/11. This is just the beginning.
I saw as a headline on a local newspaper (San Francisco area) that people ought to be “enjoying” the wonderful sight of humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, and the like, so close to shore. The reason they are here is because they are desperate for oxygen and food. What that is gone, they will die.
Vulture animals, the nature given gifts of our wonderful survival chain are in place to eat animals not strong enough to survive and beach themselves. They are too smart to eat the ones dead from radioactive poisons, they can smell it, and won’t eat them. What will be done? There are no services in place to clean up the trash from Japan, let alone the dead animals from Japan’s radioactive poisons.
Mankind has not ever dealt with a totally dead ocean before. Oceans provide 80% of our oxygen. The fact they won’t face the truth, and work to develop a strategy to fix and build from this, tells me the fools in charge are too stupid and self immersed to notice or care what happens to all of us.
We are facing our own extinction. There is nothing happening that isn’t the result of Japan’s nuclear disaster.
Why isn’t Japan facing the world court for genocide?
This is total madness, and we have idiots in charge.

  2. This entire debacle is beyond and below any attempt at subterfuge I have ever seen. There it is, spewing out radioactive garbage, while the whole world is told to shut up about radiation. Japanese reporters are jailed if caught discussing the radioactivity at Fukushima….treated as criminals if they speak the truth.
    How sick is that?
How I have grown to despise them.

  3. I sent this story to others with instructions not to read to children at bedtime. These giant sea monsters from the deep waters are surfacing to die, and some of them sound like the ones cooked up by Hollywood horror monster specialists…….this is terrifying.
The Bering Sea is north of the Pacific ocean, and if that is dying, too, from looking at my globe of the world, it is on direct jet stream from Fukushima…….this is really bad news, but not unexpected.
But, reading of giant squid and other dreadful creatures…..it is like a nightmare. Other sea monsters that man has never seen before is surfacing and dying……terrifying.
This is a huge story buried by US media. How long will folks embrace ignorance in direct defiance of truth? Do they have to show up on San Francisco shores? They might………
I am surprised nobody else is commenting on this important story…….one of your bests.
Thanks for all you do, Infinite Unknown.
