KUOW, Dec. 13, 2013: China Imposes First-Ever West Coast Shellfish Ban […] China has suspended imports of shellfish from the west coast of the United States — an unprecedented move […] China said it decided to impose the ban after recent shipments of geoduck clams from Northwest waters were found by its own government inspectors to have high levels of arsenic and a toxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning. The restriction took effect last week and China’s government says it will continue indefinitely. It applies to clams, oysters and all other two-shelled bivalves harvested from the waters of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Northern California. […] “It’s had an incredible impact,” said George Hill, the geoduck harvest coordinator for Puget Sound’s Suquamish Tribe. “A couple thousand divers out of work right now.” […] Officials say the investigation is ongoing but the closure could last for months.

[…] “They’ve never done anything like that that I’ve ever seen since I’ve been here where they would not allow shellfish from this entire area based on potentially two areas or maybe just one area, we don’t really know yet.” Last year the U.S. exported more than half a billion dollars worth of shellfish – with China as its biggest customer. […] There’s no telling when China will lift its import ban, but shellfish on the market in the U.S. are safe to eat.

Once again, I find myself in agreement with China. I won’t touch any of it, either. I am from an old San Francisco family, and remember going to Fisherman’s wharf and picking out fresh sea food to have cooked for my dinner.
Now, it is all gone, the food chain has been irrevocably broken.
Why all nations don’t unite and go after Japan for their genocide is beyond me. The longer Fukushima is allowed to cook, the more life will be destroyed. That would be a necessary war, wipe them off the face of the earth before they kill all of us. They will do nothing to stop it, they refused help from Russia who has more experience than anyone because Russia might tell the truth.
How many must die of hunger and illness before something is done to make Japan pay for their genocide?
China is about 1300 miles away from Fukushima……they are already in deep trouble. San Francisco is about 5400 miles, and some scientists say the entire Pacific will be dead by the end of 2015. 3000+ miles out from Fukushima to San Francisco, the Pacific is already dead.
China is in really bad trouble. I sure hope the nations wake up and do whatever it takes to wipe Fukushima off the face of the earth. Otherwise, it will kill all of us.
Perhaps I am wrong, but doing nothing is sure to kill us.
