Construction of an incinerator is underway at the Fukushima Daiichi plant to burn the low-level waste (LLW) being generated from the clean-up and decommissioning of the site.

The 3170-square-metre facility is expected to begin operating between September 2014 and March 2015. It will be used to reduce the volume of LLW – including such things as clothing, gloves and building materials – by burning it. The resulting radioactive ash will be stored in drums for later disposal.

A recent study by a U.S. military advisor shows that not only are drone strikes more likely to harm civilians per incident, but they are 10x more likely to do so. This lie is right up there with Obama’s recent statement that he “won’t scramble jets to capture Edward Snowden.”

Of course, that’s precisely what he did yesterday.

Yesterday it was the Egyptian military giving president Morsi a two day ultimatum before things “deteriorate”, now it is the Eurozone giving Greece a three day ultimatum to “deliver on the conditions attached to its international bailout in order to receive the next tranche of aid” or else.

This links back to the FT report from June 20 that the IMF told Greece it has until the end of July to plug its budget holes, or else. In other words, simple escalation. Of course, maybe it should have been made apparent to Greece back in May 2010 at the time of the first (of many) bailouts that all those tens of billions in sunk costs are actually supposed to lead to economic reforms instead of perpetuating a broken and corrupt political system in which all in efficiencies and failures are blamed on evil (f)austerity.

As Reuters reports, Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi called on the armed forces on Tuesday to withdraw an ultimatum for him to share power with his political opponents and said he would not be dictated to. “President Mohamed Mursi asserts his grasp on constitutional legitimacy and rejects any attempt to deviate from it, and calls on the armed forces to withdraw their warning and refuses to be dictated to internally or externally,” a tweet on the official Twitter feed of the Egyptian presidency said. A military source said the armed forces had seen Mursi’s statement and would issue a response to it.And just to complete the epic farce, Al Arabiya reported that ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that the country’s current Islamist president, Mohammed Mursi, should step down for the sake of the Egyptian people. One couldn’t make this up, nor could one make up the losses those short Egypt risk protection have suffered in the past month as Egypt CDS have widened by 50%.
